2. Facebook Mini Plan:
What needed to be asked
What is making the
NMSS FB page a success?
What are visitors liking
the most?
What is not doing well?
What is being liked the
least and how can it be
improved?
How can more visitors be
attracted to the FB page
and the MS web home
page?
What can be done to
make these visits more
personal and
informative?
3. What Does Well?
Users love innovative and cool postings. From August
there were a few postings that received more likes than
anything else posted.

4. What doesn’t Do Well?
Heavy layers of information.
The liking of pictures.
A bigger push to gain active followers of all ages is
needed.
What doesn’t do well on this page doesn’t mean that it is
not important information. Most people enjoy reading
their information in small chunks, short blurbs, quizzes,
and articles.
6. Facebook Page Comparisons
Gain ideas from other non-profit organizations
Facebook pages.
Learn from their outreach and research promotion
ideas that are on their pages.
7. Page Comparison cont…
I did a page comparison with the American Diabetes
Association. Here are a few things I found on their page
that could be tried out with ours:
1. Recipes to try for healthier lifestyles
2. Different health options such as workout routines
suitable for each person and their illness
3. Creative “fun facts” posts
4. Sites to buy medical emergency bracelets
5. Interesting and up to date article postings
6. Personal/Inspirational Stories
8. Be an Inspiration!
Many people who follow this page either have MS or
know someone who does. People love feel good stories,
positive inspiration, and humor.
9. Be Personable!
Add more photos of people who are a part of the MS
society and quote their experiences or any advice that
they may have.
Ask engaging questions everyday such as “How are you
all feeling today?”, What are you doing to help the
battle against MS?”, What routines do you have that
make your day a bit easier dealing with MS?”.
People love to feel like they have someone to connect
and relate to. Asking personable questions will give
those following the MS page a chance to learn from
each other, gain support, or just be a listening ear.
10. Be Informative and Creative
Update page with new research information about MS.
Post articles about personal health, diet, exercise, and
mental stimulation.
Use sites such as Buzz Feed to get facts out to followers
in a more fun way.

11. Be Aware of your Audience and
Activity
When making important posts, keep in mind the times
that you are posting them. According to study done by
Facebook’s research team, between the hours of 1pm -3pm
and on Thursday and Friday, those times and days have the
highest traffic of users.
Also, most people who visit the NMSS page are between
the ages of 35-44 while the average age of Facebook users
are between the ages of 25-34. So with keeping that in
mind, that should help with creating innovative ways to
gain a wider range of followers because you will be posting
things that all ages can relate to.
12. Create a Welcome Message
I created a spreadsheet from August that listed new
followers from the weeks of (8/7-8/13 and 8/27-9/3).
Each week had anywhere between 9 and 15 new
followers each of those weeks.
Any easy way to find out new followers is to check in
the right hand column of the administrator page and
select “new likes” and a list will form of all the new
followers.
13. Welcome Message Cont…
Two options for sending message
Go through pictures and posts at the end of each week,
make a spreadsheet to see if there are people who have
liked something more than once
Send welcome message to new followers according to
the list compiled by the Facebook administrator page.
14. Welcome Message cont…
Possible Message to send to new people who like our page

you could help us stomp out MS as well! If interested or would like to know
more about what our chapter does, what the MS Society has to offer, upcoming
events, and other general information, please check out our website at
http://www.nationalmssociety.org/Chapters/KYW We hope you stay

interested in receiving more information about Multiple Sclerosis or would like
to participate in one of our wonderful events, please visit our chapter home
page at http://www.nationalmssociety.org/Chapters/KYW.
15. Additional Ideas
Include stories from celebrities that have MS such as famous talk
show host Montel Williams and actress Teri Garr.
Create a contest to gain followers. (First 50 new followers will be
entered into a drawing to win a free MS t-shirt…)
Create hashtags such as #fightMS #stompoutMS and create a
movement on the FB page.
Have an intern do outreach at events by collecting the Facebook
names from participants and adding them to the Facebook page
and then sending out a welcome message.
This entire presentation and Facebook project could be an
ongoing intern job.
Encourage those who participate in MS events to tag their
pictures to the MS Facebook page.
