I feel like many people get it wrong.
These are all my opinions. If you haven’t so far you will find that the advice is varied
You may think you are in this by yourself but your not
There are a thousand others that feel they are perfect for the job that someone else got

Do a self assessment
Who do you want to meat – why?
What groups should you be a part of – why?
How much time should you spend – Why?
How do you want to be remembered
What does being strategic mean?
Starting out with questions: Where do you want to work, What are the sacrifices you are willing to make (b/c you will have to make them)What groups fit within this strategy?
You can’t be everything to everyone
So stop trying to be everything to every posting.

Be known as the expert
You don’t have to know everything
But you better be up on your field and functional area
If not then you have a lot of work to do.
You can’t be everything to everyone
So stop trying to be everything to every posting.
I know it is hard but if you help people with
small pieces of advice
sharing leads that are sent to you
asking how people are doing it helps not only you in the future but also your brand (how people remember you)

Send an update monthly or quarterly to your contacts

This is a very soft reminder you are still out there
People forget so you may have to remind them.
Business cards may help you remember who they are
But I bet you they won’t remember you
Don’t be THAT job seeker
Don’t start and continue to talk about your search
Who you have talked to at the company
They will not always like you
And it may not be for the reason you think
That start can be an idea
For some it will take time- so you have to be patient
