Some Airlines have implemented IoT as it provides real-time data on elements like
performance, maintenance, etc. It also improves the efficiency of the aircraft.
4. Robotics
Robotics plays a very important role in automating certain tasks. The airline
industry is also leveraging the power of robotics technology, so as to assist a wide
range of tasks such as baggage handling, car parking, etc. at certain airports.
Irrespective of that, a robot named Pepper, which is launched by EVA Air, scans
boarding passes so as to provide departure details, gives passengers weather
updates for their destination, and informs them about duty-free special offers &
airline promotions.
5. Biometrics
Airlines should start using biometrics in order to provide a quick, seamless and
secure travel experience. Some airlines have already introduced the biometric
enabled solutions, viz. biometric enabled bag drop, biometric boarding passes etc.
Facial recognition is another application of the biometric technology, which is being
used at the airports. In the entire process, passengers scan their passports,
boarding passes and have a photo of their face taken by a special registration
kiosk. Thus, passengers don’t require any further documentation. Their face is
enough to grant them access through to the gate barrier and they can proceed to
the plane.
