Burberry.. 
is a British luxury fashion house, distributing clothing, fashion 
accessories, fragrances and cosmetics. Its distinctive tartanpattern has become one of its 
most widely copied trademarks. Burberry is most famous for its trench coat, which was 
designed by founder Thomas Burberry. The company has branded stores and franchises 
around the world and also sells through concessions in third-party stores. Queen Elizabeth 
II and the Prince of Wales have granted the company Royal Warrants. The Chief Creative 
Officer is Christopher Bailey. The company is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a 
constituent of the FTSE 100 Index. 
According to a 2013 report by Interbrands, Burberry was the 77th most valuable brand in 
the world that year.

manufacture and distribute high-quality apparel and accessories. Among their innovations was the invention of 
gabardine, the world's first weatherproof and breathable fabric, and the footballer's pattern of choice - the 
Burberry check. 
Sales are strong in Europe, North America, Asia and the Middle East through 151 retail locations. Wholesale 
customers include leading and prestige department stores, specialty retailers and franchise partners. In 2003/04, 
the total retail value of products sold globally under the Burberry brand was approximately £2.5 billion.

The brand is founded by 21-year old 
dressmaker Thomas Burberry. 
1891 
The company moves into its first London store, 
30 Haymarket. 
1897 
Explorer Major F.G. Jackson, famed for 
mapping parts of the Arctic Circle, wearing 
Burberry. 
1909 
Opening of the Burberry store in Paris at 8 
Boulevard Malesherbes. 
1911 
Roald Amundsen and his team become the first 
people to reach the South Pole. Burberry 
supplied their clothes and tents. 
1912 
The Tielocken coat is patented. The predecessor to the trench coat, it 
proves popular among officers during WWI. The coat closes with a single 
strap and buckle fastening and only features a button at the collar.

The Burberry Gabardine tent from Robert Scott's 
attempt to reach the South Pole.

Burberry moves to a larger London premises.

The company has branded stores and franchises around the world and also sells through concessions in third-party stores. Queen Elizabeth II and the Prince of Wales have granted the company Royal Warrants. The Chief Creative Officer is Christopher Bailey. The company is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index. According to a 2013 report by Interbrands, Burberry was the 77th most valuable brand in the world that year.

Jackson, famed for mapping parts of the Arctic Circle, wearing Burberry. 1909 Opening of the Burberry store in Paris at 8 Boulevard Malesherbes. 1911 Roald Amundsen and his team become the first people to reach the South Pole.   • 33. How We Work The Burberry Foundation invests in select charities focused on supporting young people in the key cities in the regions where the majority of Burberry employees live and work. The Foundation facilitates and encourages Burberry employees to participate in volunteer roles with our charity partners, and also makes in-kind donations, often merchandise donated by Burberry, as and when appropriate. Because of our long-term commitments to charity partners, and the Foundation's tendency to proactively seek projects for funding, we do not accept unsolicited requests for support; however, we are always interested in hearing about innovative programmes that fit within our funding priorities and empower the creative spirit in young people.
