CONCEPT OF POWER
Power - the ability to influence another person.

Influence - the process of affecting the thoughts,
behavior, & feelings of another person.

Authority - the right to influence another person.
TWO FACES OF POWER

          Personal Power
             used for personal gain

          Social Power(FORMAL )
             used to create motivation

 used to accomplish group goals
SOURCES OF POWER
 1 EXPERT POWER
 2 CHARISMATIC POWER (REFRENT POWER)

 3 REWARD POWER

 4 INFORMATION POWER

 5 LEGITIMATE POWER

 6 COERCIVE POWER
INTRODUCTION

As per the Transparency International(TI):
corruption is defined as-
“The misuse of entrusted power for private
gain”
It is not easy to define corruption. But
in a narrow sense, corruption is mostly
concerned with bribery and it takes
several forms. Corruption is a global
phenomenon and it is omnipresent.
Corruption has progressively increased
and is now rampant in our society.
Corruption is caused as well as increased because of
the change in the value system and ethical qualities of
men who administer. The old ideals of morality, service
and honesty are regarded as an achromatic.
 In a highly inflationary economy, low salaries of
government officials compel them to resort to the road
of corruption. Graduates from IIMs with no experience
draw a far handsome salary than what government
secretaries draw.
Election time is a time when corruption is at its peak
level. Big industrialist fund politicians to meet high cost
of election and ultimately to seek personal favor.
Bribery to politicians buys influence, and bribery by
politicians buys votes. In order to get
elected, politicians bribe poor illiterate people, who are
slogging for two times meal.

CORRUPTION

•As with many developing nations, corruption is
widespread in India.
•India is ranked 72 out of a 179 countries in
Transparency International's Corruption Perceptions
Index, although its score has improved consistently
from 2.7 in 2002 to 3.5 in 2008.
•Corruption has taken the role of a persistent aspect of
Indian politics and administration.
Corruption In administration
 A 2009 survey of the leading economies of
Asia, revealed Indian administration to be not just
least efficient out of Singapore, Hong
  Kong, Thailand, South
Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan, Vietnam, China,
  Philippines and Indonesia..
 further it was also found that working with the
India's civil servants was a "slow and painful"
  process.

                                                  Cont
Corruption In administration
 Officials often steal state property. In Bihar, more
than 80% of the subsidized food aid to poor is
  stolen.
 In Government Hospitals, corruption is associated
with non availability of medicines (or duplicate
  medicines), getting admission and consultations
  with doctors.
