- Spaces designed should be of optimum efficiency as maximum area should be chalked out
for leasing or for tenants.
- Each space should have equal access to the crowd and should be in their immediate visual
reach.
- Anchor stores have to be positioned in a manner where it can be away from immediate
reach but it should be followed in order to allow room for smaller shops to survive.

This is to ensure a break in the monotony of the shopping experience of the shopper.
Multiplexes of competing standards should be provided as are also a prime contributor of
the footfall in the shopping mall.
Adequate spaces for box office should be provided and spaces for services and equipment
rooms should be provided.
The rooms should be backed up with proper emergency facilities and equipped with latest
technologies.

The building’s exterior surface has been efficiently utilized for branding and advertisements
wherein not affecting the aesthete of the elevational feature of the building.
MATERIAL USED, FINISHES
Contemporary outlook has been maintained with the use of materials currently trending like
aluminum composite panels and glazed facades

The entrance lobby and atrium has been
covered with fiber glass which allows light
to penetrate but covers up the area
efficiently and reduces the use of artificial
lighting.

PVR RIPPLES MALL (VIJAYAWADA)

Height of building: 23m
Location: Ripples mall is located in Vijayawada, Andhra
Pradesh. It is surrounded by MVR mall, PVP square.
Average footfall in weekdays: 2000
footfall in holidays and weekends: 3000
ENTRANCES and EXITS
• There were 2 main entrances to the
mall.
• For vehicles east side is an entry and
west is exit.
• Driveways or setbacks on sides is 6m
on right and 7m on left.
• The exit on left side is connected to
lower ground floor which is also an
entry for specially abled people.
Areas
• This mall has the parking area which can accommodate 70
cars and 200 bikes..
• Basement 1- Offices, toilets for admin and staff, loading and
unloading, service lift+2 elevators, 2 staircases.
• Basement 2- Parking, 2 elevators, electrical room.
• Basement height- 2.7m
• There were two separate entries which were connecting to
the parking, from ground level.
• One was used for general entry of cars & the other was used
for exit and service vehicles.
• Each ramp is 4.6m wide.
• 2 lifts connecting basement-1 to upper floors.
• Toilets are Provided for the drivers.
• Poor ventilation in basements.
PARKING AREAS
Basement-2 has 2 ramps of each 4.6m width.
South side ramp from B-1 for entry and north
ramp for exit.
Height of B-2 is 2.6m and it doesn’t have acess
to Elevator.
 2 emergency exits are the only acess to upper
floors each has a staircase of flight width 2m.
It has electrical room having 2transformers,
2 capacitor banks,4 VCB’s and ACB.
Electrical room varies in height
with B-2.(4m height)
B-1 has driveway of 4.6m which leads the
Vehicles to parking slot.
Elevator in B-1 has access through emergency
exit.
Exit ramp connects B-1 to lower ground floor.
B-1 has toilets for staff and drivers, office
room, fire fighting equipment, service elevator
connects B-1 to 2nd floor, which used for dock
loading and unloading.
Lower ground floor has 2 ramps, which is exit
Way from B-1 and B-2. It also acts as an
entrance for specially abled people.
LGF has gaming zone, store rooms, toilets and
generator room.
Corridor of 2.5m width connects the driveway
to LGF.
•Landing at the entrance- 2.2m
•Corridor leads to Atrium- 3.8m
•Atrium- 9.6mx12m
•Corridor or space for movement
around the Atrium - 2.4m
•Width of the corridor that leads to
service lift - 2.1m
•The emergency exit on north side connects
3rd floor to ground floor.
2.7m wide corridor connects the atrium to
the north side emergency exit.
The width of emergency exit corridor is
1.2m.
Toilets are not provided in ground and
first floor.
Width of the corridor leading to west side
service lift and emergency exit is 1.2m.
Second floor has shopping area, box office,
food court.
Width of service corridor is 1.2m for food
court .
Toilets are placed at the corner, which
doesn’t have any signage.
Capacity of the theatres is min-200 and
max-272 people.
Corridor in front of A-1, A-2 is 5.5m and
A-3 is 3.4m, A-4 is 6m.
All theatres are connected to 2m wide
corridor which connects them to main
emergency exit.
A-1, A-3 are connected to upper floors
through steps.
INFERENCES
ATRIUM:
PARKING:
There is no direct access to Elevators from basement
we need to pass through emergency exit.
Parking space is not sufficient for vehicles since it
has area for 70cars and 200 bikes.
Ventilation is not provided as per standards (2.5%).
Insufficient ventilation in B-2 causes foul smell, since
it has underground sewage system.
Around the Atrium there is 2.4m corridor
for both people using escalators and to
shopping area.
There is no lift lobby provided and lands
on that 2.4 corridor, which increases
congestion.
INFERENCES
EMERGENCY EXITS:
Landing for south side exit staircase is not sufficient
and it is dangerous since it takes splay and less
width.
Even in main emergency exit from lower ground
floor to ground floor the headroom is less than 2m.
North side elevator have the corridor width 1.2m
which should be minimum of 2m
TOILETS:
•Toilets are not provided on every floor.
•Ground floor and 1st floor doesn’t have toilet facility.
•Toilets doesn’t have proper signages.

  • 33. ENTRANCES and EXITS • There were 2 main entrances to the mall. • For vehicles east side is an entry and west is exit. • Driveways or setbacks on sides is 6m on right and 7m on left. • The exit on left side is connected to lower ground floor which is also an entry for specially abled people.

Areas • This mall has the parking area which can accommodate 70 cars and 200 bikes.. • Basement 1- Offices, toilets for admin and staff, loading and unloading, service lift+2 elevators, 2 staircases. • Basement 2- Parking, 2 elevators, electrical room. • Basement height- 2.7m • There were two separate entries which were connecting to the parking, from ground level. • One was used for general entry of cars & the other was used for exit and service vehicles. • Each ramp is 4.6m wide. • 2 lifts connecting basement-1 to upper floors. • Toilets are Provided for the drivers. • Poor ventilation in basements. INFERENCES ATRIUM: PARKING: There is no direct access to Elevators from basement we need to pass through emergency exit. Parking space is not sufficient for vehicles since it has area for 70cars and 200 bikes. Ventilation is not provided as per standards (2.5%). Insufficient ventilation in B-2 causes foul smell, since it has underground sewage system. Around the Atrium there is 2.4m corridor for both people using escalators and to shopping area. There is no lift lobby provided and lands on that 2.4 corridor, which increases congestion.

INFERENCES EMERGENCY EXITS: Landing for south side exit staircase is not sufficient and it is dangerous since it takes splay and less width. Even in main emergency exit from lower ground floor to ground floor the headroom is less than 2m. North side elevator have the corridor width 1.2m which should be minimum of 2m TOILETS: •Toilets are not provided on every floor. •Ground floor and 1st floor doesn’t have toilet facility. •Toilets doesn’t have proper signages.
