My Trip To The Great Smoky Mountains
It was the middle of the day, but the sky was a darker blue than usual and there were a few stars out. It was a bit chilly despite being a clear day
in August. The mountains I saw ahead were too dark to be distinguishable from one another. For that brief minute, the sun had disappeared.
Seeing the total solar eclipse was the best experience of my summer and one of the best experiences of my life. My family and I went to go see it
in Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee. I had been really excited for this moment because of how long I'd been anticipating it.
Plus I'd been to the Great Smoky Mountains before and I really enjoyed being there, so I was looking forward to going back.
A great aspect about this day was that I was on Clingman's Dome, the highest mountain in the park, and it was one of the best places to see the
eclipse because there was a beautiful view of the park from up there and the eclipse was not blocked out by clouds, unlike other places along the
path of totality.
My family purchased tickets ahead of time to get up there because it was going to be closed off on the day of the eclipse to prevent it from being
too crowded. We arrived at the parking lot early where they were loading up the coach buses to go up the mountain and we made it on the first
bus and there we received our solar glasses. The glasses felt like cheap paper glasses, but they had a solar filter in them that allowed me to look
at the sun without hurting my eyes. We were lucky to have these glasses because when the eclipse was coming near, solar glasses were in very
high demand and a lot of people had trouble getting them.
The ride up to the mountain took about twenty minutes and it was kind of scary because of how high we were, but I saw some amazing scenery
of the Smokies while going up so it wasn't too bad. Once the bus reached the top of the mountain, I saw the landscape of mountains stretched out
ahead as far as the eye could see. While up on the mountain, people working for NASA had activities going on and were even handing out solar
glasses. Everyone in my family grabbed some NASA solar glasses because they might be more reliable than the glasses we were given
previously and they would make a neat souvenir.

My Love Story
At seventy years old, she had learned how exactly she wanted to live her life, after living this long you reach a point where you realize to the
truest extent that you actually have a choice on how you're going to live. In every situation you come across there's always going to be at least
two sides to every story. And there's no reason to fluff your feather's over the little stuff, health and happiness is most important in everything
you do. This however was less of a fluff and more, a convulse.
These two's love story started at Port Angeles High School, he was 18 and she was 17. After their first interaction the two knew that they needed
to go on a date because from the first second their eyes met, they knew that there was a connection that must mean something. After a few dates,
the two were about ready to begin picking out wedding dates. After many years and a variety of huge lifetime accomplishments including their 5
successful children, 10 grandchildren and a steadily increasing number of great–grandchildren. Through all these successes we get to the year
2010, The same year the tallest man–made structure officially opened and the longest annular solar eclipse of the 3rd millennium occurred. Over
the course of this year, she had begun noticing how little he would remember, whether this be the contents on his grocery list or the date of their
wedding anniversary. Usually being a very thoughtful, compassionate person. This carefree and forgetful act was very unnatural

Who Is Soul Survivor?
Another year, another quality trip to Soul Survivor! We always go and we always love it, and this year was no exception. Brilliant people, great
messages, passionate responses and more cheeseburgers than you could fling a ketchup sachet at.
All this said, the ol' theology student in me still twinges a little bit during these trips. I used to be quite critical and found issues with lots of
superfluous areas, but even after maturing deeper and understanding better a niggle still remains.
It's a little like there's something missing, a foundational something that should be holding the pieces together more coherently. And I think I
may have finally just put my finger on it.
It 's Christology. Or rather lack thereof. See if you can see a pattern from the keynote messages:
The first main message of the week was all about responding to Jesus like Levi did.
The second was about being brave and expectant with the supernatural and not being afraid to have a go.
The third was focused around worry and anxiety, and how to live intimately in the moment with God.
The fourth message was more specifically about Jesus; how he respects people, starts where they at, loves the broken and wants to fulfil their
lives.
Message number five was an exposition of what is tongues and how to pray in tongues.
Message six (my favourite) talked about the need to be wowed by God, experience woe at our brokenness, and then go into the world as an
evangelist.
The final message was about going 'all in' for

Nazca Lines: A Water Cult or Early Astronomical Worship
Nazca lines: water cult or early astronomical worship?
The geoglyphs on the Pampa de Nazca in Peru are as stunning as they are mysterious. Many, many theories surround the lines such as aliens,
slaves, or tribute to the dead. The lines could have been created as an extension of the Inca Ceque lines in Cusco for part of the water cult and
the worship of the water and mountain deities, or perhaps they were created to please a 'sky god' seen during the unusual amount of solar
eclipses during the time of construction or even as a depiction of constellations and zodiac knowledge.
Many ancient cultures, with the ancient Nazcas included, believed the sun and moon to be deities or eyes of an otherwise invisible sky god. This
would be reinforced on the occasion of a solar eclipse where a 'ring of fire' is formed as the moon crosses the path of the sun, creating an eye–
like shape as seen in figure 1 and 2. Three major eclipses occurred over the Pampa de Nazca beginning in 97 CE and coinciding with the
beginning of the construction of the lines (Edgar, R. 2000). This has given rise to the theory that these spectacular artworks were signs or
appreciation for the gods of the sky. When the Nazca lines were supposedly created between is debated and varies from 97 CE to 400 and 650
CE. The Nazca people constructed the lines by digging into the pampa to expose the lighter earth beneath and due to dry conditions and little
erosion they have remained visible (Alford, A. F. 1998). Some lines

Star Crossed Lovers An incredibly long time ago, when the world was completely dark, there was a woman named Moon and a Man named Sun.
They were madly in love with each other. Even though all their days were dark, their love shined brighter than the darkness they lived in. Many
people were jealous of their love, but the darkness loved the moon the most. He hated the fact that the Moon loved the sun so much, so he came
up with a plan....
The Darkness decided that if he kidnapped the Moon the she would only be his. He slowly snuck up behind the moon and grabbed her away
from the Sun. The Darkness took the Moon back to his home where they could both live in the complete dark forever. The Darkness tried
everything he could to make the Moon happy but all it did was make her cry even more. The Moon begged him to send her back to the Sun, but
the Darkness decided he would never give her up and would try to win her love no matter what.
When the Sun called out to the Moon later that night, he heard nothing back and began to worry about his love. He was scared that she was all
alone in the dark but he was also worried that someone may have taken her away. The Sun had no idea where to go but he knew he had to find
her. He trusted his gut and listened into the galaxy all night. Suddenly he heard the Moon crying from very far away. He travelled as fast as he
could to get to her and suddenly saw that the Darkness

A Report On Astronomical Eclipses
Eclipse
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This article is about astronomical eclipses. For other uses, see Eclipse (disambiguation).

Totality during the 1999 solar eclipse. Solar prominences can be seen along the limb (in red) as well as extensive coronal filaments.
An eclipse is an astronomical event that occurs when an astronomical object is temporarily obscured, either by passing into the shadow of
another body or by having another body pass between it and the viewer. An eclipse is a type of syzygy.[1]
The term eclipse is most often used to describe either a solar eclipse, when the Moon 's shadow crosses the Earth 's surface, or a lunar eclipse, ...

The latter object will block some amount of light being emitted by the former, creating a region of shadow around the axis of the line. Typically
these objects are moving with respect to each other and their surroundings, so the resulting shadow will sweep through a region of space, only
passing through any particular location in the region for a fixed interval of time. As viewed from such a location, this shadowing event is known
as an eclipse.[5]
Typically the objects involved in an astronomical eclipse are roughly circular in size,[5] and so the region of an object 's shadow during an
eclipse is divided into three parts:[6]
The umbra, within which the object completely covers the light source. For the Sun, this light source is the photosphere.
The antumbra, extending beyond the tip of the umbra, within which the object is completely in front of the light source but too small to
completely cover it.
The penumbra, within which the object is only partially in front of the light source.
During a lunar eclipse only the umbra and penumbra are applicable. This is because Earth 's apparent diameter from the viewpoint of the Moon
is nearly four times that of the Sun.
The first contact occurs when the Moon 's disc first starts to impinge on the Sun 's; second contact is when the Moon 's disc moves completely
within the Sun 's; third contact when it starts to move out of the Sun 's; and fourth or last contact when it finally leaves the

Frank Bruni's Solar Eclipse The American Spirit
In Frank Bruni's article "Can't Eclipse the American Spirit", humor and sarcasm are the main persuasive techniques used to sway the reader to
Bruni's main idea that the solar eclipse showed how greedy and avaricious Americans are. Bruni also used several statistics and examples to
show how the solar eclipse provided Americans in several towns with an opportunity to make a lot of money, and how Americans pounced on it.
Two examples of the humor Bruni used were the inclusion of motel rates in Casper, Wyoming, and a statistic showing how long the eclipse
really lasted. According to Bruni's research on hotels.com, "you can snag a room... for only $1,211 a night" (Bruni 2). By following saying "a
bargain!", Bruni used sarcasm to show the magnitude

Reflection Paper On The Solar Eclipse
While being a very excited fan of Mythology, Astrology and this year's upcoming solar eclipse, I decided to embark on a journey with my two
daughters, Jazmine (4 and proud of it), & Layla (terrible 2.5's) Goins to experience the eclipse at its fullest in Totality town (Andrews) North
Carolina. Second thought's about this were weighing heavily in my head. Especially in the wake of the recent tragedy that took place in
Charlottesville, Virginia. But being that this was a very important historical moment, I really wanted this experience not only for myself but for
my daughters also. So with out any more hesitation, I said a quick prayer and set forward towards my destination. 2.5 hrs later we were in a
thriving community where everyone shared the same enthusiasm that I did for the upcoming event. So with out further ado, I unfolded my
daughters blanket under a shade tree so they would be comfortable, and commenced a count down for the event. After settling in we were
greeted by a fellow stargazer whom asked & offered a pair of glasses to my daughters in order to view the eclipse. Without hesitation, they
replied, received their glasses, and gave her the biggest hug their short arms could muster. Moments later, I was greeted by Stephen St. Claire,
An artist from Asheville, North Carolina whom with a warm welcome, invited my daughters and myself to join himself and his wife Joy St.
Claire, under the trees where everyone else was, and not alone. Understanding immediately the potential and power in this, I agreed, gathered
my things and shuffled my daughters in their direction. Once we made it there, my daughters as always, hugged, greeted, and told them their
names and ages. In like fashion, they were bombarded with the same. Once we were settled sitting down, Joy being the "SAINT" that she is
immediately started interacting with my daughters as if she had known them their whole life, and vice versa. While Steven and I had a very
interesting, wholehearted, truthful, fellowship amongst ourselves, about what's going on in today's world. As our conversation continued, he
asked if I felt as if there was a change from then until now. Anxious to convey my answer accurately and correctly, I told

Total Eclipse Annie Dillard Summary
Based on Annie Dillard's account of witnessing a total eclipse in her essay "Total Eclipse" I would have to say she definitely encourages her
readers to witness a total eclipse. She says that it is almost the opposite of a partial eclipse, which I am sure most people have seen many times
before, that's how different they are and I believe most people including myself think partial eclipses are spectacular and almost dreamlike. The
opening line in "Total Eclipse" is "It had been like dying, that sliding down the mountain pass" (477). Annie Dillard is describing traveling
through the mountains and down into the Yakima Valley and how she feels this place is so strange because it is all new to her. This gives you an
idea of Annie Dillard's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It bears almost no relation to seeing a total eclipse as [...] flying in an airplane does to falling out of an airplane" (480). As I have both flown in
an airplane and fallen out of a perfectly good airplane and deeply enjoyed the latter it makes me think that one like myself, an adventurous
adrenaline seeker, would really like to see a total eclipse. It would be a totally new experience, anyone would want to experience something so
out of the ordinary. One thing Dillard says that could impact the reader's feelings about seeing a total eclipse would be how she says "God save
us" (482). What does Dillard want to be saved from, before this she is describing the movement of the sun into the final phase of the total eclipse
almost as if she is dieing because all the colors around her are changing, turning from green to black and gray because of the lack of sun. Why
would Dillard ask God to save her? Is she scared because this total eclipse is unknown to her having never experienced it? Some people might
say why would I want to see something that is related to something like death, and I believe that one would want to witness such an event
because death is something you can only participate in once because after you have you are only existent in people's memories. Inquisitiveness
would overrule any other feeling for many people and would be a point to fortify that the reader would want to see a total eclipse even more so
because the experience of

The Characters Of The Solar Eclipse
The Twisted Eclipse By: Thomas Fox, Amelya Cook, Autumn Kelly, Ansley Hopper, Evan Dean Exposition: The warm summer breeze brushed
eagerly at Jimmy and Johnny as they left their house. The solar eclipse was today, but they had already seen one, and they didn't expect much.
They would go to the park with Samantha, get some ice cream, and walk around. That was their daily routine. The truth was, the twin brothers
both had a crush on Samantha, but they were both scared to say something about it. As they walked, their wavy blonde hair whisked to and from,
but it didn't matter. Their golden bronze skin gleamed in the magnificent sunlight. No one could tell them apart, except Samantha. Johnny had
shiny hazel eyes that glowed in the moonlight, and Jimmy had deep blue eyes. Johnny finished texting Samantha and told Jimmy that she would
meet them in the downtown area of their hometown, Hopkinsville, Kentucky. They went to their usual meeting place under the bridge but away
from the water. When they saw Samantha, both their jaws dropped to the ground. She looked stunning! Her purple sundress blended to
perfection with her cream–colored skin, her eyes shined like diamonds, and her dirty blonde hair had the perfect amount of curls in it. They sat
and talked, neither twin could stop looking at her beautiful hair. What they didn't know, however, was that their lives would take a twisted turn in
a matter of hours. After they had finished talking, they went and got their ice cream.

Paul's Glasses In Out Of Focus By Tangerine
Paul Fisher has had glasses for at least half of his life. The cause for most of the story was he looked at an eclipse, but that wasn't the case. We
later figured out it was his brother Erik. The effect of Erik was glasses. Having glasses caused some not so good things to happen to Paul. All
together, Paul's glasses fit perfectly in the center of a cause and effect chart. Before Tangerine technically started, the reader was told what was
said to have happened to Paul. In the section called "Out of Focus", which does not have a page number, it says, "The fact is we did have an
eclipse that summer, around three weeks before school started. Based on that, Erik was telling his friends this story: The reason for the Coke–

Essay On The Shadow Of The Air
On August 21, 2017 the sun was covered by a shadow of the moon. The Path of Totality was three hours north of Denver in the Middle of
Nowhere, Wyoming. The press was predicting the worst traffic the state has ever seen and that small towns would be dangerously unprepared.
Campsites were fully booked several months in advance, and the warning was "Bring plenty of food and water"
At 2:30 a.m. we hit the highway out of Denver, watching the taillights before us cluster together into an ever–lengthening line. Nervously, I kept
checking my phone to see if the road services have sent any messages about traffic jams even though the reporters had said the worst part would
be the drive home. I'd seen a partial eclipse as a kid and remember feeling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eating food, drinking water, look at the eclipse, stop looking at the eclipse, "You can't look continuously, you'll burn your eyes out", eat more
food. The lady from down the road was wandering around taking pictures of the sunflowers, looking at the eclipse, and then not looking at the
eclipse before she burnt her eyes out. "Who are these NASA guys anyway? Pretty sure everything they do is boring. I'm really hoping traffic
isn't as bad as they said it would be, what a long day."
"It's getting close now"
In one second the world is bright and clear, the 90 degree daytime, and the next it was dusk. At this point in the eclipse you could safely look at
the sun with the naked eye. The colors of a sunset were visible for 360 degrees with no trees or buildings to obstruct the view. The sun was
completely black with a gorgeous corona of wispy white tendrils. It looked strange, dangerous and miraculous. The real world was gone. For 1
minute and 47 seconds the landscape was like nothing I have ever seen before, or will ever see again. It was the 69 degrees of dusk.
The moment the shadow had moved enough to let in the smallest amount of daylight, the moment ended. It was obvious why everyone made the
trek. The sun being even 99% eclipsed is not the same experience; it has to be in totality. Once I realized this, and realized how justified we all
were, my perspective on the crowds and the traffic changed completely.
I was all excited and breathless as we quickly

Book Review Of The NovelEvery Soul A Star
Book title: Every Soul a Star
Task 1: Describe how the story's plot unfolds
Exposition
Setting– The main setting of Every Soul a Star is Moonshadow Campground.
Characters– There were many characters in the book Every Soul a Star. The three main characters were Ally, Jack, and Bree. Some secondary
characters where Kenny, Melanie, Mr.Silver, Ally's mom and dad, and Bree's mom and dad.
Plot (struggle)– The plot or struggle of Every Soul a Star is different for each character. The plot for Ally was making sure that everything was
perfect for the solar eclipse. The plot for Jack was making sure he did all of his science work so he wouldn't have to go to summer school. The
plot for Bree was finding ways to try to live in the outdoors.
Events in the Rising Action
You should have at least 3–5 events that were significant to the story. These should be exciting parts before the climax of the story. Some events
in the story that I thought was rising action were when they all got together to make the solar eclipse perfect, when they all had to camp–out
together because of the storm, and when they all worked together to find a signal for the planet that they found.
Climax
What is the turning point of the story? It's typically the most exciting part you read. The turning point of Every Soul a Star is when everyone
finally comes together to finally watch the solar eclipse after lots of hard work.
Falling Action
What loose ends are wrapped up? Some events help lead the protagonist to a resolution for their internal or external conflict. Some of the falling
action may seem like rising action. The falling action of the story was when they found out that they found a planet, and when they had to say
goodbye to each other.
Resolution
What did your character learn? In the story Every Soul a Star, the characters learned that even when they think that a situation is going to be
awful, amazing things can come out of it.
Task 2: Provide a summary of what happened distinct from personal opinions or judgments.
Using your plot development above, write a summary of your story in Ms. Mullins' classroom during writing this week (more to come on that
when you have writing tomorrow). The story Every Soul a Star by Wendy Mass

Does The Solar Eclipse: The Lunar Effect
The widely believed claim that the moon has physiological effects on humans or other living organisms on Earth is known as the 'Lunar Effect'.
One popular belief stemmed from this topic is that the 29.5–day lunar cycle somehow has a relationship with fertility and the roughly 28–day
human menstrual cycle. In the article titled 'Does The Solar Eclipse Affect Your Period? Some Women Say It Really Does', it is suggested that
some women experienced 'strange' symptoms of their periods during the Solar Eclipse, such as more intense stomach crampings or extreme and
sudden mood swings. In this article, one of the more noticable warning signs of Pseudoscience is the overreliance on anecdotes. One of the
trends of pseudoscience is the dependence on evidence

Descriptive Essay About Mamaw's House
A majority of my favorite days were spent at Mamaw's house. When I think about that rustic white house sitting in the middle of that vast farm, I
think of it as a place where I am myself, and it is a place where my family and I create the most fun filled memories. Mamaw's house has been
the setting of quite a few hilarious and heartwarming stories over the years. Ever since my family had bought the farm, it has been our family
gathering place. Mamaw's house hosts anything from birthday parties to Thanksgiving dinners to family reunions. Out of all the precious
memories I have from that house, there are a few that are especially near and dear to my heart.

Significances Of Total Solar Eclipses
A Total Solar Eclipse occurs when the visible portion of our Moon covers the visible portion of our sun, causing it to seem like a white ring with
a black center, causing an extremely unique view of our sun and Moon. The Total Solar Eclipse can only be seen from a few points in the world,
in the umbral shadow. Most people in the world will only see a partial Solar Eclipse, where the Moon will only cover a portion of the sun, due to
the fact that they're in the penumbral. While not as unique, it's still a rare sight to behold. The reason Solar Eclipses are so rare to begin with is
due to the special coincidence of the Moon and sun being the same size to our eyes. While our sun is 400 times the size of our Moon, our sun is
also 400 times farther away, causing them to appear the same size in our sky.
As previously stated, you can only see a Total Solar Eclipse from an umbral shadow, which is the darkest part of the shadow cast on the Earth.
This only happens when the Moon Totally covers the sun, but this is not the only factor. The Moon also has to be close to, or at the point of
perigee, the point of the Moon's orbit closest to Earth. The penumbral shadow is only visible when the Moon only partly obscures the Sun's disk,
causing a partial Solar Eclipse, but there are still more. There's the Annular Solar Eclipse, which is similar to a Total Solar Eclipse, but the Moon
is too small to completely cover the sun, and the Sun's outer edges remain visible to form a ring of fire in the sky. This can only happen when the
Moon is near to, or at the point of apogee, the point of the Moon's orbit farthest from Earth, and can only be seen from the Moon's antumbra.
The last type of eclipse, Hybrid Solar Eclipses, also known as annular–Total eclipses, are the rarest type. This only occurs when a Solar Eclipse
changes between a Total Solar Eclipse and an Annular Solar Eclipse along it's path.
According to the article "What Are Solar Eclipses?" on the website timeanddate.com/eclipse/solar–eclipse.html "For a solar eclipse to take
place, the Sun, the Moon, and Earth must be aligned in a perfect or near perfect straight line–an alignment astronomers call syzygy. This
happens around New Moon every lunar month." There are 2

Short Story On Solar Eclipse
If there's one thing I know right now, it's that I'm not nervous. Then again, I never really get nervous. I'm always thinking about way too much at
once. Tests don't get me nervous, roller coasters don't, not even that at this very moment my younger brother and I are on our way to a
kidnapper's house by free will. Sounds pretty crazy, right? Well, you should also know that I have superpowers. Everything comes back to that
moment of time when day turned to night at 1:25 pm. You know, the solar eclipse. I, being an extreme lover of traveling and all things bizarre,
begged my parents to take my brother and me down to the point of greatest eclipse. To my greatest delight, they agreed, my parents being the
total education endorsers they were. In the coming weeks we ordered our glasses and read up on all the information we could find. When the day
came, we went down to Kentucky and were met with masses and masses of people. Everyone was so anxious to see the eclipse they seemed
frantic and hysterical. I can clearly remember the exact expression on the man's face next to us when he realized that he had bought the wrong
glasses for him and his family. Maybe we should have paid more attention to him and his possibly sneaky hands, but we didn't. The time came
for us to slip on our glasses and in majestic beauty, the moon gracefully floated over the image of bright white light. I stare for only a few
minutes, but then I felt a ray of the sun burn my eyes and before I could close

Causes Of Solar Eclipse
A solar eclipse is a type of eclipse that occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, and the Moon fully or partially blocks the Sun.
This can happen only at new moon when the Sun and the Moon are in conjunction as seen from Earth in an alignment referred to as syzygy. In a
total eclipse, the disk of the Sun is fully obscured by the Moon. In partial and annular eclipses, only part of the Sun is obscured. If the Moon
were in a perfectly circular orbit, a little closer to the Earth, and in the same orbital plane, there would be total solar eclipses every month!
However, the Moon's orbit is inclined at more than 5 degrees to the Earth's orbit around the Sun so its shadow at new moon usually misses
Earth. Earth's orbit is called the ecliptic plane as the Moon's orbit must cross this plane in order for an eclipse to occur. In addition, the Moon's
actual orbit is elliptical, often taking it far enough away from Earth that its apparent size is not large enough to block the Sun totally. The orbital
planes cross each other at a line of nodes resulting in at least two, and up to five, solar eclipses occurring each year; no more than two of which
can be total eclipses. However, total solar eclipses are rare at any particular location because totality exists only along a narrow path on the
Earth's surface traced by the Moon's shadow or umbra. An eclipse is a natural phenomenon. Nevertheless, in some ancient and modern cultures,
solar eclipses have been attributed to

Sitting on the tan, leather seats of our black Toyota land cruiser, it was the kind of day when your legs would stick to the seats from the summer
heat, but it was also the day we would begin our trek. We would leave the comfort of our home to view the Great American Eclipse from
Charleston, South Carolina. A few hours later, straining my neck to look all the way up a smiling Pedro's face on a statue, it was obvious that we
had reached South of the Border. The air was thick and hot, it made us Marylanders lethargic. "Only three more hours..." My dad
unenthusiastically yelled to us. South of the border had marked about 75 percent of hour drive there.

"Guyssss get upppp," My dad groggily tried to stir me and my sister from a peaceful slumber, although he himself tired too. Last night's late
arrival in South Carolina had left us all drained, especially the driver– my Dad, who was trying to make sure we didn't sleep through the eclipse!

The Eclipse By Selma Lagerlof Analysis
There is no darkness of annihilation around, no fear of absolute, preternatural loneliness, no dissolution of human languageing. This is the space
of the everyday, as analysed by Heidegger, Lefebvre and Tagore (Guha 93–94). As Ranajit Guha argues, everydayness, though different from the
grand narratives of historicity, is always imbued with a sense of the past, and as such, it is grounded in "social time". Guha writes: [...] as
Heidegger observes, "Everydayness is a way to be–to which, of course, that which is publicly manifest belongs." Such a way to be implies being
with others in a social time based on a mutually subscribed notion of the past. (93) Thus, we can notice, everydayness is not just dull monotony,
it is essentially a mode of being which acknowledges the neighbourhood of (necessary) others. It is monotonous ... Show more content on

The basic difference between these two texts is generic: while Koula is a novella, Lagerlof's text is a short story. However, there are thematic
and even structural parallels between the two. Koula, despite its slightly larger scope, retains a short–story–like structure. And that is mainly
because it is as much a novella of everydayness as that of loneliness. Everydayness can never be as fruitfully captured in longer fiction as in
short fiction. Lagerlof's characters too, just like Koula, belong to the domain of everydayness, and they are only too well acquainted with its
monotony. The central figure is Beda, an old woman who is completely lonely, as "all her dear ones were resting in the churchyard" (Lagerlof
793). However, though Beda's loneliness as an old woman is foregrounded here, Lagerlof does not create any essential correlation between age
and loneliness. Rather, the loneliness she figures forth is more oriented to gender than to age. All the female neighbours of Beda are

The Solar Eclipse : My Experience The Great American Eclipse
I witnessed the Solar Eclipse Did you experience "The Great American Eclipse"? A solar eclipse is a type of eclipse that occurs when the Moon
passes between the Sun and Earth, and when the Moon fully or partially blocks the Sun. A Total eclipse of the sun is a once in a lifetime event.
First of all, I was invited to go to drew's lake house, to watch the solar eclipes. His lake house is located near the area of Murphysboro, and
Carbondale, Illinois. Which is where Lake Kinkaid is placed. All and all, it usually tends to take two hours to dive there. We left our hometown
of Imperial, at around four o'clock. In fact, It was a saturday evening, and we didn't have school on monday. When we got there, his family was
making dinner. I was as hungry as a cow. They made burgers, potatoes and salad. The food was tasty. After dinner we played a few games family
feud. My team lost all three rounds we played. To sum it up, we can't think off the top of our head very well. Meanwhile, we ended up outside,
sitting around the campfire. We made s'mores, and played the name game. Later, after a hour or so outside, we all ended up going to bed. I was
as tired as a worn out shoe. The next morning, we woke up and ate cinnamon rolls. They were quite delightful. Eventually, we were going to
head to the lake. But, yet we layed back down, and just relaxed. After thirty minutes of that, we finally got ready for our day on the lake. Drew

Analysis Of Total Eclipse By Annie Dillard
Description Essay " Total Eclipse " By Annie Dillard
Annie Dillard's " Total Eclipse " depicts her own existential crisis while watching the 1979 solar eclipse. Using metaphors and Stream of
Consciousness Writing she details her own dissociative hallucination.
She begins her work by describing her morning, comparing it to an avalanche, " It had been like dying, " She wrote. " that sliding down the
mountain pass. It had been like the death of someone, irrational, that sliding down the mountain pass and into the region of dread. IT was like
slipping into fever, or falling down that hole in sleep from which you wake yourself whimpering. " Setting the tone for the essay, death and
irrational thoughts filling her mind as it unfolds around her. She compares the avalanche to death, foreshadowing her own avalanche, an
avalanche of the mind. Her own avalanche happens while she is standing outside on a mountain, watching the eclipse with her husband. She
slips into a dissociative delusion, writing, " I looked at Gary; He was in the film. Everything was lost, He was a platinum print, a dead artist's
version of life. I saw on his skull the darkness of night mixed with the colors of day. My mind was going out; my eyes where receding the way
galaxies recede to the rim of space. Gary was light–years away, gesturing inside a circle of darkness, down the wring end of a telescope. He
smiled as if he saw me; the stringy crinkles around his eyes moved. The sight of him, familiar and wrong,

Another book that Stephanie Meyer has written is The Host. The Host is similar to New Moon because they are both considered a romantic
fiction genre. Another similarity is both novels are based of supernatural characters. Most of Stephenie Meyer 's books are romance novels,
science fiction, and attracts most of the younger generations. She writes her books based off of dreams she's had. New Moon is different from
the movie because in the novel it mentions a lot more details than the movie. In the novel, Jasper no longer attends high school, and was a senior
the previous year. In the movie, Jasper attends high school, and he is in the same grade as Bella. In the novel, Edward discards his phone and is
answered by somebody in Brazil. In the movie, Edward crushes his phone so that nobody can use it. Bella hears Edward's voice when she is in a
dangerous situation, but in the movie Bella sees an apparition of Edward. Bella's depression is over with in January, but in

Four Causes Of Solar Eclipses
Solar eclipses are known for their beautiful and definitely interesting look they give upon the naked eye. To be more precise it is when the sun,
moon, and earth are lined up in the same plane. When doing so the moon goes in between the Earth and sun either covering or partially covering
our most closest star. There happens to be four kinds of eclipses in total. Total, annular, partial, and hybrid. Each eclipse has different t affects,
causes, and looks that give them their name. The first eclipse to review is Total solar eclipses. Studies show that on average, they tend to appear
every 18 months on Earth. Also, there are two types of shadows named the umbra and the penumbra. An umbra is when a certain part of the
shadows shows no light whatsoever. A penumbra is lighter and more funnel–shaped shadow that allows only a little bit of sunlight to pass.
During this eclipse the moon cast its umbra in just a few hours which means that it can sweep a third of the way around the planet! Some say
that if in the path of the umbra you may see the suns disk diminish into a crescent. This is because the moons shadow heads toward them. A
corona is the tenuous outer atmosphere of the sun. Briefly during this eclipse, the corona is revealed as the sun is completely covered. Sadly, this
beautiful piece of art only lasts a few minutes as the longest one ever recorded was seven minutes making it rarely ever seen. Next, a partial
eclipse is only seen when the penumbra passes overhead. Meaning

Racism Articles On Racism
A case of a solar eclipse metaphor gone terribly, terribly wrong has become a conservative talking point about the left and racism.
Last week, the Atlantic reprinted a Democracy: A Journal of Ideas article, which attempted to make a hard–to–parse point about race in America
in the context of the solar eclipse. The thesis of the article was that the regions experiencing the total eclipse are mostly inhabited by white
people – and also America has a history of racism.
It was quickly picked up by far–right pundits and conservative media as the left's attempt to make everything about racism. Here's Infowars'
Alex Jones tweeting about it:
The left wants you to think #SolarEclipse2017 is racist. RT if you disagree! https://t.co/wd2Hq8m8ld

The Daily Caller bashed the article with the headline "The Eclipse Is Racist Because It Fails to Affect Enough Black People, The Atlantic
Suggests."
The article comes on the heels of a terror attack at a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, which left one anti–racism demonstrator
dead. President Donald Trump equivocated his condemnation of neo–Nazis after the incident, prompting backlash from both Republicans and

Solar Eclipse Research Paper
To me, theatre is a solar eclipse. Everyone knows about it. There are pictures and videos all attempting to capture the unfathomable beauty. But,
when all's said and done, it must be experienced. A recording of a solar eclipse, just like a recording of a show, can never encapsulate the wonder
from experiencing it in person. Even though it means it's harder to access and experience theatre, it's one of the reasons I fell in love with it.
I started engaging in theatre in sixth grade, playing a nun in the ensemble of The Sound of Music. My mind opened to all sorts of shows, and I
began listening to everything from Carousel to Little Shop of Horrors. I joined the school's advanced theatre class and then went on to high
school. In ninth grade I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After all, it's where I've seen many Broadway shows and where I sang at Carnegie Hall. But the way it inspires me transcends those experiences,
as wonderful as they were. During one of my trips, I stood on the edge of a New York City sidewalk, waiting to cross the street to get to a
theater. People surrounded me on every side except directly in front of me, where cars moved past me. Somehow, a miracle happened – for a
moment, surrounded by people and cars and noise, I felt completely alone. When I returned to reality, I thought about the millions of lives and
stories contained on Manhattan Island. It was overwhelming, yes, but it also made me realize how incredible New York City truly is – not
because of its theaters or skyscrapers or parks, but because of its people. I always say that cities have an urban heartbeat that send sparks through
me, creating inspiration. But feeling alone in New York helped me to realize that the urban heartbeat I feel is made up of the people who create
the city. Truly, no place better demonstrates this effect better than New York City. I know I will keep returning there because of this effect, as it

Negative Effects Of Solar Eclipses
With the impending solar eclipse set to darken the skies briefly on Monday afternoon, physicians across the country are preparing to treat cases
of optical damage caused by glaring at the "dark" sun. Unfortunately, many people believe that because the sun is blocked, it blocks the harmful
ultraviolet rays from reaching one's eyes, but that is not the case. Assistant professor in the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Tamara S.
Oechslin, explains "it is never safe to stare directly into the sun, and that includes during the eclipse" (Janarthanan). But, these eclipses have
been occurring for thousands of years. In fact, the ancient Chinese believed that solar eclipses were dragons devouring the sun (NASA).
Obviously, the general population has come to a much stronger understanding of what a solar eclipse entails, but they do not necessarily follow
guidance related to viewing the eclipse. In 1999, a solar eclipse occurred and "several thousand people rang helplines or attended special eclipse
clinics" (Dobson). However, "the number of cases of solar retinopathy than was widely feared" (Dobson). Solar retinopathy is the damage
caused by someone looking at the sun with improper or no eye protection. The retina, the home of light–sensing cells, is then damaged by the
harmful rays of the sun. Treatment to try and heal the effects of solar retinopathy has proven ineffective (Dobson). Eyes are similar to the brain
in terms of traumatic injury. Once a vital organ has been harmed, it

Twilight is the first book in a series of vampire–fantasy–romance novels written for teens and young adults which revolve around the lives of the
two titular characters, Bella Swan and Edward Cullen, and the complications of their romantic relationship. The book is written by Stephanie
Meyer and is told through the eyes of 17 year old Bella Swan, as she moves from Phoenix, Arizona to Forks, Washington to live with her father,
Charlie. She soon meets Edward Cullen, a 105 year old vampire posing as a high school student. The two become infatuated with each other and
form a haphazard relationship which is threatened by the fact that Edward constantly wants to kill Bella and drink her blood. Their involvement
with each other leads to Bella's life being threatened and Edward must save her. From the begging of the book, we can see that Bella may not be
the most emotional or personal character based on her relationship with her father. Bella is very distant from her father, as she left him and Forks
with her mother when she was only a child. She does not show much emotion or love towards him, even after he buys her a truck, and refers to
him as Charlie rather than dad or father or papa or any other sort of informal noun to describe one's father, a person who is about 50%
responsible for your existence. The first few chapters discuss Bella settling into her new life in

Two Types Of Solar Eclipses In Greek History
An eclipse is an astronomical event that happens when a celestial object such as a moon or a planet moves into the shadow of another celestial
body and there are two types of the eclipse on Earth named solar eclipse and lunar eclipse. A solar eclipse happens when the moon's shadow falls
somewhere on the surface of the earth and a lunar eclipse is the opposite of solar eclipse which happens when the earth's shadow falls on the
moon. There are two sections of the shadow, the dark umbra, and the partially shaded penumbra, their placement determines the type of eclipse
that can be seen on earth though placement sun. According to Greek history, the person who predicted the first eclipse was a Greek
mathematician, Thales of Miletus. On May 28, 585 BC, the Lydians, and Medes were engaged in fierce fighting and this was the six–year of war
between them. Each was from a different side of Anatolia which is modern–day Turkey. As the battle stretched on into the evening, both armies
were surprised to see the Sun suddenly darkening and they believed that it was a message from the gods that they were displeased by the strife.
But the Lydians and Medes laid down their arms. They swore to end the long war and solidified the peace by giving a Lydian princess to marry
the king of the Medes. This is one of the earliest events in recorded history to which we can set an exact date as we can calculate when that
eclipse took place. The eclipses are valuable to the historian as they give us an event that we can use to correctly date ancient chronologies.
Ancient historians recorded that his eclipse that stopped the war was actually predicted by Thales. Through thousands of year, patiently watching
the movements of the Sun and Moon in the sky, ancient astronomers realized eclipses happen when the moon passed directly in front of the Sun.
For the solar eclipse to work though, of course, the moon has to be big enough to block out the sun. In reality, the moon is 400 times smaller
than the Sun but in a fantastic cosmic. However, from our point of view, the moon is almost exactly the same size as the sun in the sky and this
means it will line up and it will completely block the disc of the sun. If the moon is the smaller or any further

A total solar eclipse can be frightening to people who are unaware of its astronomical explanation, as the Sun seems to disappear during the day
and the sky darkens in a matter of minutes.
Since looking directly at the Sun can lead to permanent eye damage or blindness, special eye protection or indirect viewing techniques are used
when viewing a solar eclipse. It is technically safe to view only the total phase of a total solar eclipse with the unaided eye and without
protection; however, this is a dangerous practice, as most people are not trained to recognize the phases of an eclipse, which can span over two
hours while the total phase can only last up to 7.5 minutes for any one location. People referred to as eclipse chasers or umbraphiles will travel
to remote locations to observe or witness predicted central solar eclipses.[3][4]

Entering the Stereotypical Gender Ring: Bella Swan's Passivity vs. Rosalie Hale's Proactivity
For my research project I have decided to choose a character from a popular book series, Twilight which was written by Stephenie Meyer. The
forbidden love story between a plain human girl and a gorgeous vampire boy sparked the hearts of millions, but the singular character I'm
conducting my research on is Rosalie Hale. While Bella Swan, the main character is passive, Rosalie Hale is proactive. This is shown through
her avengement of her brutal rape, rescuing her later husband, and speaking her mind frequently about her distrust of Swan throughout the four
novels.
I was immediately drawn to Rosalie Hale because my thirteen year old self adored Twilight. I happily devoured the books in hours and awaited
eagerly till past my bedtime for Breaking Dawn to be released. When I first looked over the project, the book series popped into my mind,
bringing back all of my feelings for the novels before. More specifically, Rosalie Hale's character. In the book she is often overlooked and seen
as the jealous, stunning snob that just didn't understand the gravity of Bella and Edward's irrevocable love. I thought that, too, until years later
when I realized that Rosalie had proven to be the only voice of reason in the novels that will speak out against Bella Swan. The facts that I

The Solar Eclipse Adventures : Solar Eclipse Adventures
Solar Eclipse Adventures The solar eclipse is a once in a lifetime event that people from all over the state, the country, and the world came to
see. There was much talk around the country about the upcoming eclipse; some people were very interested in it while others, like myself, were
not. Everyone did something different on the day of the eclipse; some went to special places while others might've stayed home.
My adventure on the eclipse took me down to the Meramec River with three dogs, three kayaks, my dad, and my sister. The morning started off
warm, with no breeze and a temperature of about eighty degrees. The plans for the day were to go on a float trip putting in at Sappington Bridge
and paddling down to the Meramec Bridge, but we had gotten a late start so plans didn't go accordingly. On the way up to my shed to get our
dusty, green kayaks out, I opened the gate and the metal piping was sizzling hot. My hands were burning after opening both gates for the truck to
go through. After opening up the shed and picking up the kayaks, we maneuvered them out the door of the shed. We loaded them up on the
truck, ratcheted them down, and headed to Sappington Bridge. We put the kayaks in the water and paddle upstream to the first rock bar where
we got out, but we weren't the only ones on the rock bar so we had to keep our dogs down on our end. The water was slow, hardly any current at
all, and the air was fresh and sweet. We debated about whether or not to stay at the river

Observation Of Solar Eclipses
Solar eclipses provide a unique opportunity to observe the sun itself owing to the moon providing a clear view of the solar chromosphere.
Observations of the sun during a solar eclipse lead to a variety of discoveries ranging from the discovery of elements to a deeper understanding
of solar activities such as coronal mass ejections. The use of equipment in new ways allows scientists to make previously unimaginable
discoveries as Pierre Jansen discovered in 1868 while observing the sun. With the knowledge of atomic emission spectroscopy and new
instruments Pierre Jansen "observed the spectrum of the chromosphere that was briefly visible at the beginning and at the end of totality"and
"saw a bright yellow emission line"(Pasachoff, 2009). After further observation without an eclipse he and Norman Lockyer independently
confirmed that this line indicated the presence of a new element named helium. Observations of this nature can produce false positives as was
the case for coronium. From solar observation green, red, and "several fainter emission lines"(Pasachoff, 2009) were observed and attributed to
an element named coronium. The existence of such an element was later disproved when it was discovered that these lines came from "highly
ionized states of iron, calcium and nickel"(an astro...). Solar observation during an eclipse can also give insight to solar phenomena such as
coronal mass ejections, also known as CMEs. CEMs are "billion–ton clouds of magnetized plasma ejected from

Roman coins from five different emperors reigns in 138 AD and 253 AD.
Hipparchus has made three contributions to astronomy. Hipparchus was the 1st Greek to create a quantitative and an accurate model for the
motion of the Sun and Moon. Another contribution he made is more towards mathematical contribution. Hipparchus possessed a trigonometric
table and he likely solved problems of spherical trigonometry. The last contribution is he made a reliable method of predicting solar eclipses, and
the compilation of the first comprehensive star catalog. Hipparchus has many others work but sadly they are now lost. These included an
astronomical and astrological writings and a catalogue of his own works.
In summary, Hipparchus was a Greek astronomer who gave three things to astronomy and the mathematical world. He kept a catalogue of all the

eclipse event, and safety precautions individuals should take before watching the event. The topics covered in the article are important because
they pertained to this year's rare solar eclipse, the first total solar eclipse, Rice notes, to be visible only in the United States since 1776. If the

Analysis Of The Solar Eclipse In 1831 : Year Of EclipseBy...
Louis Masur, as a professor of history has delivered a significant contribution to the comprehensive understanding of various events and their
relevance to the development status of the American society. In the 1831: Year of Eclipse book, the author presents an important text, in which
he discusses the reasons why he believes the 1831, the year of the eclipse, is an important factor in the American development journey. The
American current development status is a product of many of events and processes, most of which have delivered a significant impact on the
social, economic, as well as political spheres of the country.
Among the most significant events that have remained major landmarks in the history of America is the solar eclipse in 1831, which impacted on
the antebellum America. The significance, the argument of Louis Masur, is a product of the belief that the eclipse was the advent of change in
the country. This belief further strengthened when some of the anticipated changes came to pass. For instance, among the changes include the
Nat Turner insurgence in 1831, the revival that characterized various religious movements and ideologies, industrial revolution as well as
political transformations.
The author uses the idea of the solar eclipse to demonstrate the prevailing nature of the conflicts that existed in the historical America at the
time, including the anxiety between oppression and liberty, the light and the dark, the introduction and use of machineries

Effects Of A Solar Eclipse
What is a solar eclipse? What effect might a solar eclipse have on one? A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the sun and the
earth. This makes the sun align behind the moon as it blocks the sun's beautiful and gleaming rays. When the sun is behind the moon, it seems as
if it is as dark as night and makes the sun look like a ring of fire high in the sky. During a solar eclipse, many things can happen that one would
be astonished by observing such as, the actual object, changes in the atmosphere, animals and people's behavior, and emotional and sensual
feelings. The object that appeared in the sky had everyone's attention and concentration, not only that day, but weeks before. Everyone had been
talking about the upcoming solar eclipse. Teachers planned lessons, and posters lined the walls to inform students of expectations and safety
measures. A solar eclipse, an event appealing to the eye, is an unforgettable phenomenon that can leave someone with the experience of a
lifetime.
On the day of the eclipse, the view of the sun was oddly bright and dim. The sky was as bright as a sun rise early in a summer's morning. It was
so bright I was tempted, yet scared to look at it. The whole Middleton High School separated to go outside and watch the eclipse in different
areas. The location where we watched the eclipse only allowed us to see the moon partially blocking the sun. We all saw the sun slowly lose its
rays as the moon raced to appear in front. Although the total

Narrative Essay On Solar Eclipse
On August 21st of this year, my generation got to discover an event that I found absolutely breath taking. A total solar eclipse passed over the
United States, making it distinguishable in the afternoon sky from the ground. The total solar eclipse only occurs when the moon aligns just
directly in front of the Sun, a sight which most people will never get to see in their lifetime. Three weeks back, I bought glasses in preparation to
see the full phenomenon. Myself and a few of my close friends went on a mission to see the total eclipse from the best vantage point I could,
which landed me a tad bit south of Crossville, TN. I left campus Sunday night to join some friends back home who were also anticipating the
event. The next morning around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We drove at a speed in the range of 60 to 70 miles an hour, down an old narrow country road, racing the eclipse so that we could experience it in
the most ideal position possible. It was quite dangerous as none of us had seat belts on and were holding on to the safety handle. The ride was an
adrenaline rush. Four or five minutes away we pulled off on the side and stepped away from our cars. In a field, way out in what could only be
described as B.F.E. Tennessee, we gathered around on the side of the road and counted down to totality.
Scientists will tell you that the gravity is lighter on the surface of the earth directly amid a full eclipse. To some degree, maybe the adrenaline
and gravity were at fault for the emotional reaction that I felt during the eclipse. The minute felt too dreamlike to be in any way genuine, like a
scene from a sci–fi film or the start of the end of the world. The green hue of the sky just before, rushing emotions, and all the people who had
gathered in strange places to watch this event together made it feel like an important moment in my life. And when the sun was completely
secured behind the shadow of the moon, all the light for miles around, went dark, and all went silent.
For around 30 seconds, I heard cicadas chirp the way they do at dusk. Looking up into the dark afternoon sky was comparable to considering the
eye of a divine being. I saw

My Trip To The Great Smoky Mountains

  • 1. My Trip To The Great Smoky Mountains It was the middle of the day, but the sky was a darker blue than usual and there were a few stars out. It was a bit chilly despite being a clear day in August. The mountains I saw ahead were too dark to be distinguishable from one another. For that brief minute, the sun had disappeared. Seeing the total solar eclipse was the best experience of my summer and one of the best experiences of my life. My family and I went to go see it in Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee. I had been really excited for this moment because of how long I'd been anticipating it. Plus I'd been to the Great Smoky Mountains before and I really enjoyed being there, so I was looking forward to going back. A great aspect about this day was that I was on Clingman's Dome, the highest mountain in the park, and it was one of the best places to see the eclipse because there was a beautiful view of the park from up there and the eclipse was not blocked out by clouds, unlike other places along the path of totality. My family purchased tickets ahead of time to get up there because it was going to be closed off on the day of the eclipse to prevent it from being too crowded. We arrived at the parking lot early where they were loading up the coach buses to go up the mountain and we made it on the first bus and there we received our solar glasses. The glasses felt like cheap paper glasses, but they had a solar filter in them that allowed me to look at the sun without hurting my eyes. We were lucky to have these glasses because when the eclipse was coming near, solar glasses were in very high demand and a lot of people had trouble getting them. The ride up to the mountain took about twenty minutes and it was kind of scary because of how high we were, but I saw some amazing scenery of the Smokies while going up so it wasn't too bad. Once the bus reached the top of the mountain, I saw the landscape of mountains stretched out ahead as far as the eye could see. While up on the mountain, people working for NASA had activities going on and were even handing out solar glasses. Everyone in my family grabbed some NASA solar glasses because they might be more reliable than the glasses we were given previously and they would make a neat souvenir. ... • 3. My Love Story At seventy years old, she had learned how exactly she wanted to live her life, after living this long you reach a point where you realize to the truest extent that you actually have a choice on how you're going to live. In every situation you come across there's always going to be at least two sides to every story. And there's no reason to fluff your feather's over the little stuff, health and happiness is most important in everything you do. This however was less of a fluff and more, a convulse. These two's love story started at Port Angeles High School, he was 18 and she was 17. After their first interaction the two knew that they needed to go on a date because from the first second their eyes met, they knew that there was a connection that must mean something. After a few dates, the two were about ready to begin picking out wedding dates. After many years and a variety of huge lifetime accomplishments including their 5 successful children, 10 grandchildren and a steadily increasing number of great–grandchildren. Through all these successes we get to the year 2010, The same year the tallest man–made structure officially opened and the longest annular solar eclipse of the 3rd millennium occurred. Over the course of this year, she had begun noticing how little he would remember, whether this be the contents on his grocery list or the date of their wedding anniversary. Usually being a very thoughtful, compassionate person. This carefree and forgetful act was very unnatural ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Who Is Soul Survivor? Another year, another quality trip to Soul Survivor! We always go and we always love it, and this year was no exception. Brilliant people, great messages, passionate responses and more cheeseburgers than you could fling a ketchup sachet at. All this said, the ol' theology student in me still twinges a little bit during these trips. I used to be quite critical and found issues with lots of superfluous areas, but even after maturing deeper and understanding better a niggle still remains. It's a little like there's something missing, a foundational something that should be holding the pieces together more coherently. And I think I may have finally just put my finger on it. It 's Christology. Or rather lack thereof. See if you can see a pattern from the keynote messages: The first main message of the week was all about responding to Jesus like Levi did. The second was about being brave and expectant with the supernatural and not being afraid to have a go. The third was focused around worry and anxiety, and how to live intimately in the moment with God. The fourth message was more specifically about Jesus; how he respects people, starts where they at, loves the broken and wants to fulfil their lives. Message number five was an exposition of what is tongues and how to pray in tongues. Message six (my favourite) talked about the need to be wowed by God, experience woe at our brokenness, and then go into the world as an evangelist. The final message was about going 'all in' for ... • 7. Nazca Lines: A Water Cult or Early Astronomical Worship Nazca lines: water cult or early astronomical worship? The geoglyphs on the Pampa de Nazca in Peru are as stunning as they are mysterious. Many, many theories surround the lines such as aliens, slaves, or tribute to the dead. The lines could have been created as an extension of the Inca Ceque lines in Cusco for part of the water cult and the worship of the water and mountain deities, or perhaps they were created to please a 'sky god' seen during the unusual amount of solar eclipses during the time of construction or even as a depiction of constellations and zodiac knowledge. Many ancient cultures, with the ancient Nazcas included, believed the sun and moon to be deities or eyes of an otherwise invisible sky god. This would be reinforced on the occasion of a solar eclipse where a 'ring of fire' is formed as the moon crosses the path of the sun, creating an eye– like shape as seen in figure 1 and 2. Three major eclipses occurred over the Pampa de Nazca beginning in 97 CE and coinciding with the beginning of the construction of the lines (Edgar, R. 2000). This has given rise to the theory that these spectacular artworks were signs or appreciation for the gods of the sky. When the Nazca lines were supposedly created between is debated and varies from 97 CE to 400 and 650 CE. The Nazca people constructed the lines by digging into the pampa to expose the lighter earth beneath and due to dry conditions and little erosion they have remained visible (Alford, A. F. 1998). Some lines ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Dramatic Love : Dramatic Literature : Star Crossed Lovers Shelby Bontrager Dramatic Literature Mrs. Augustine November 9th, 2017 Star Crossed Lovers An incredibly long time ago, when the world was completely dark, there was a woman named Moon and a Man named Sun. They were madly in love with each other. Even though all their days were dark, their love shined brighter than the darkness they lived in. Many people were jealous of their love, but the darkness loved the moon the most. He hated the fact that the Moon loved the sun so much, so he came up with a plan.... The Darkness decided that if he kidnapped the Moon the she would only be his. He slowly snuck up behind the moon and grabbed her away from the Sun. The Darkness took the Moon back to his home where they could both live in the complete dark forever. The Darkness tried everything he could to make the Moon happy but all it did was make her cry even more. The Moon begged him to send her back to the Sun, but the Darkness decided he would never give her up and would try to win her love no matter what. When the Sun called out to the Moon later that night, he heard nothing back and began to worry about his love. He was scared that she was all alone in the dark but he was also worried that someone may have taken her away. The Sun had no idea where to go but he knew he had to find her. He trusted his gut and listened into the galaxy all night. Suddenly he heard the Moon crying from very far away. He travelled as fast as he could to get to her and suddenly saw that the Darkness ... • 11. A Report On Astronomical Eclipses Eclipse From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia This article is about astronomical eclipses. For other uses, see Eclipse (disambiguation). "Total eclipse" redirects here. For other uses, see Total Eclipse (disambiguation). Totality during the 1999 solar eclipse. Solar prominences can be seen along the limb (in red) as well as extensive coronal filaments. An eclipse is an astronomical event that occurs when an astronomical object is temporarily obscured, either by passing into the shadow of another body or by having another body pass between it and the viewer. An eclipse is a type of syzygy.[1] The term eclipse is most often used to describe either a solar eclipse, when the Moon 's shadow crosses the Earth 's surface, or a lunar eclipse, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The latter object will block some amount of light being emitted by the former, creating a region of shadow around the axis of the line. Typically these objects are moving with respect to each other and their surroundings, so the resulting shadow will sweep through a region of space, only passing through any particular location in the region for a fixed interval of time. As viewed from such a location, this shadowing event is known as an eclipse.[5] Typically the objects involved in an astronomical eclipse are roughly circular in size,[5] and so the region of an object 's shadow during an eclipse is divided into three parts:[6] The umbra, within which the object completely covers the light source. For the Sun, this light source is the photosphere. The antumbra, extending beyond the tip of the umbra, within which the object is completely in front of the light source but too small to completely cover it. The penumbra, within which the object is only partially in front of the light source. During a lunar eclipse only the umbra and penumbra are applicable. This is because Earth 's apparent diameter from the viewpoint of the Moon is nearly four times that of the Sun. The first contact occurs when the Moon 's disc first starts to impinge on the Sun 's; second contact is when the Moon 's disc moves completely within the Sun 's; third contact when it starts to move out of the Sun 's; and fourth or last contact when it finally leaves the ... • 13. Frank Bruni's Solar Eclipse The American Spirit In Frank Bruni's article "Can't Eclipse the American Spirit", humor and sarcasm are the main persuasive techniques used to sway the reader to Bruni's main idea that the solar eclipse showed how greedy and avaricious Americans are. Bruni also used several statistics and examples to show how the solar eclipse provided Americans in several towns with an opportunity to make a lot of money, and how Americans pounced on it. Two examples of the humor Bruni used were the inclusion of motel rates in Casper, Wyoming, and a statistic showing how long the eclipse really lasted. According to Bruni's research on hotels.com, "you can snag a room... for only $1,211 a night" (Bruni 2). By following saying "a bargain!", Bruni used sarcasm to show the magnitude ... • 15. Reflection Paper On The Solar Eclipse While being a very excited fan of Mythology, Astrology and this year's upcoming solar eclipse, I decided to embark on a journey with my two daughters, Jazmine (4 and proud of it), & Layla (terrible 2.5's) Goins to experience the eclipse at its fullest in Totality town (Andrews) North Carolina. Second thought's about this were weighing heavily in my head. Especially in the wake of the recent tragedy that took place in Charlottesville, Virginia. But being that this was a very important historical moment, I really wanted this experience not only for myself but for my daughters also. So with out any more hesitation, I said a quick prayer and set forward towards my destination. 2.5 hrs later we were in a thriving community where everyone shared the same enthusiasm that I did for the upcoming event. So with out further ado, I unfolded my daughters blanket under a shade tree so they would be comfortable, and commenced a count down for the event. After settling in we were greeted by a fellow stargazer whom asked & offered a pair of glasses to my daughters in order to view the eclipse. Without hesitation, they replied, received their glasses, and gave her the biggest hug their short arms could muster. Moments later, I was greeted by Stephen St. Claire, An artist from Asheville, North Carolina whom with a warm welcome, invited my daughters and myself to join himself and his wife Joy St. Claire, under the trees where everyone else was, and not alone. Understanding immediately the potential and power in this, I agreed, gathered my things and shuffled my daughters in their direction. Once we made it there, my daughters as always, hugged, greeted, and told them their names and ages. In like fashion, they were bombarded with the same. Once we were settled sitting down, Joy being the "SAINT" that she is immediately started interacting with my daughters as if she had known them their whole life, and vice versa. While Steven and I had a very interesting, wholehearted, truthful, fellowship amongst ourselves, about what's going on in today's world. As our conversation continued, he asked if I felt as if there was a change from then until now. Anxious to convey my answer accurately and correctly, I told ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Total Eclipse Annie Dillard Summary Based on Annie Dillard's account of witnessing a total eclipse in her essay "Total Eclipse" I would have to say she definitely encourages her readers to witness a total eclipse. She says that it is almost the opposite of a partial eclipse, which I am sure most people have seen many times before, that's how different they are and I believe most people including myself think partial eclipses are spectacular and almost dreamlike. The opening line in "Total Eclipse" is "It had been like dying, that sliding down the mountain pass" (477). Annie Dillard is describing traveling through the mountains and down into the Yakima Valley and how she feels this place is so strange because it is all new to her. This gives you an idea of Annie Dillard's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It bears almost no relation to seeing a total eclipse as [...] flying in an airplane does to falling out of an airplane" (480). As I have both flown in an airplane and fallen out of a perfectly good airplane and deeply enjoyed the latter it makes me think that one like myself, an adventurous adrenaline seeker, would really like to see a total eclipse. It would be a totally new experience, anyone would want to experience something so out of the ordinary. One thing Dillard says that could impact the reader's feelings about seeing a total eclipse would be how she says "God save us" (482). What does Dillard want to be saved from, before this she is describing the movement of the sun into the final phase of the total eclipse almost as if she is dieing because all the colors around her are changing, turning from green to black and gray because of the lack of sun. Why would Dillard ask God to save her? Is she scared because this total eclipse is unknown to her having never experienced it? Some people might say why would I want to see something that is related to something like death, and I believe that one would want to witness such an event because death is something you can only participate in once because after you have you are only existent in people's memories. Inquisitiveness would overrule any other feeling for many people and would be a point to fortify that the reader would want to see a total eclipse even more so because the experience of ... • 19. The Characters Of The Solar Eclipse The Twisted Eclipse By: Thomas Fox, Amelya Cook, Autumn Kelly, Ansley Hopper, Evan Dean Exposition: The warm summer breeze brushed eagerly at Jimmy and Johnny as they left their house. The solar eclipse was today, but they had already seen one, and they didn't expect much. They would go to the park with Samantha, get some ice cream, and walk around. That was their daily routine. The truth was, the twin brothers both had a crush on Samantha, but they were both scared to say something about it. As they walked, their wavy blonde hair whisked to and from, but it didn't matter. Their golden bronze skin gleamed in the magnificent sunlight. No one could tell them apart, except Samantha. Johnny had shiny hazel eyes that glowed in the moonlight, and Jimmy had deep blue eyes. Johnny finished texting Samantha and told Jimmy that she would meet them in the downtown area of their hometown, Hopkinsville, Kentucky. They went to their usual meeting place under the bridge but away from the water. When they saw Samantha, both their jaws dropped to the ground. She looked stunning! Her purple sundress blended to perfection with her cream–colored skin, her eyes shined like diamonds, and her dirty blonde hair had the perfect amount of curls in it. They sat and talked, neither twin could stop looking at her beautiful hair. What they didn't know, however, was that their lives would take a twisted turn in a matter of hours. After they had finished talking, they went and got their ice cream. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Paul's Glasses In Out Of Focus By Tangerine Paul Fisher has had glasses for at least half of his life. The cause for most of the story was he looked at an eclipse, but that wasn't the case. We later figured out it was his brother Erik. The effect of Erik was glasses. Having glasses caused some not so good things to happen to Paul. All together, Paul's glasses fit perfectly in the center of a cause and effect chart. Before Tangerine technically started, the reader was told what was said to have happened to Paul. In the section called "Out of Focus", which does not have a page number, it says, "The fact is we did have an eclipse that summer, around three weeks before school started. • 23. Essay On The Shadow Of The Air On August 21, 2017 the sun was covered by a shadow of the moon. The Path of Totality was three hours north of Denver in the Middle of Nowhere, Wyoming. The press was predicting the worst traffic the state has ever seen and that small towns would be dangerously unprepared. Campsites were fully booked several months in advance, and the warning was "Bring plenty of food and water" At 2:30 a.m. we hit the highway out of Denver, watching the taillights before us cluster together into an ever–lengthening line. "It's getting close now" In one second the world is bright and clear, the 90 degree daytime, and the next it was dusk. At this point in the eclipse you could safely look at the sun with the naked eye. The colors of a sunset were visible for 360 degrees with no trees or buildings to obstruct the view. The sun was completely black with a gorgeous corona of wispy white tendrils. It looked strange, dangerous and miraculous. The real world was gone. For 1 minute and 47 seconds the landscape was like nothing I have ever seen before, or will ever see again. It was the 69 degrees of dusk. The moment the shadow had moved enough to let in the smallest amount of daylight, the moment ended. It was obvious why everyone made the trek. The sun being even 99% eclipsed is not the same experience; it has to be in totality. Book Review Of The NovelEvery Soul A Star Book title: Every Soul a Star Task 1: Describe how the story's plot unfolds Exposition Setting– The main setting of Every Soul a Star is Moonshadow Campground. Characters– There were many characters in the book Every Soul a Star. The three main characters were Ally, Jack, and Bree. Some secondary characters where Kenny, Melanie, Mr.Silver, Ally's mom and dad, and Bree's mom and dad. Plot (struggle)– The plot or struggle of Every Soul a Star is different for each character. The plot for Ally was making sure that everything was perfect for the solar eclipse. The plot for Jack was making sure he did all of his science work so he wouldn't have to go to summer school. The plot for Bree was finding ways to try to live in the outdoors. Events in the Rising Action You should have at least 3–5 events that were significant to the story. These should be exciting parts before the climax of the story. Some events in the story that I thought was rising action were when they all got together to make the solar eclipse perfect, when they all had to camp–out together because of the storm, and when they all worked together to find a signal for the planet that they found. Climax What is the turning point of the story? It's typically the most exciting part you read. The turning point of Every Soul a Star is when everyone finally comes together to finally watch the solar eclipse after lots of hard work. Falling Action What loose ends are wrapped up? Some events help lead the protagonist to a resolution for their internal or external conflict. Some of the falling action may seem like rising action. The falling action of the story was when they found out that they found a planet, and when they had to say goodbye to each other. Resolution What did your character learn? In the story Every Soul a Star, the characters learned that even when they think that a situation is going to be awful, amazing things can come out of it. When I think about that rustic white house sitting in the middle of that vast farm, I think of it as a place where I am myself, and it is a place where my family and I create the most fun filled memories. • 33. Significances Of Total Solar Eclipses A Total Solar Eclipse occurs when the visible portion of our Moon covers the visible portion of our sun, causing it to seem like a white ring with a black center, causing an extremely unique view of our sun and Moon. The Total Solar Eclipse can only be seen from a few points in the world, in the umbral shadow. Most people in the world will only see a partial Solar Eclipse, where the Moon will only cover a portion of the sun, due to the fact that they're in the penumbral. While not as unique, it's still a rare sight to behold. The reason Solar Eclipses are so rare to begin with is due to the special coincidence of the Moon and sun being the same size to our eyes. While our sun is 400 times the size of our Moon, our sun is also 400 times farther away, causing them to appear the same size in our sky. As previously stated, you can only see a Total Solar Eclipse from an umbral shadow, which is the darkest part of the shadow cast on the Earth. This only happens when the Moon Totally covers the sun, but this is not the only factor. The Moon also has to be close to, or at the point of perigee, the point of the Moon's orbit closest to Earth. The penumbral shadow is only visible when the Moon only partly obscures the Sun's disk, causing a partial Solar Eclipse, but there are still more. There's the Annular Solar Eclipse, which is similar to a Total Solar Eclipse, but the Moon is too small to completely cover the sun, and the Sun's outer edges remain visible to form a ring of fire in the sky. This can only happen when the Moon is near to, or at the point of apogee, the point of the Moon's orbit farthest from Earth, and can only be seen from the Moon's antumbra. The last type of eclipse, Hybrid Solar Eclipses, also known as annular–Total eclipses, are the rarest type. This only occurs when a Solar Eclipse changes between a Total Solar Eclipse and an Annular Solar Eclipse along it's path. According to the article "What Are Solar Eclipses?" on the website timeanddate.com/eclipse/solar–eclipse.html "For a solar eclipse to take place, the Sun, the Moon, and Earth must be aligned in a perfect or near perfect straight line–an alignment astronomers call syzygy. This happens around New Moon every lunar month." There are 2 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tests don't get me nervous, roller coasters don't, not even that at this very moment my younger brother and I are on our way to a kidnapper's house by free will. Sounds pretty crazy, right? Well, you should also know that I have superpowers. Everything comes back to that moment of time when day turned to night at 1:25 pm. You know, the solar eclipse. I, being an extreme lover of traveling and all things bizarre, begged my parents to take my brother and me down to the point of greatest eclipse. To my greatest delight, they agreed, my parents being the total education endorsers they were. In the coming weeks we ordered our glasses and read up on all the information we could find. When the day came, we went down to Kentucky and were met with masses and masses of people. Everyone was so anxious to see the eclipse they seemed frantic and hysterical. I can clearly remember the exact expression on the man's face next to us when he realized that he had bought the wrong glasses for him and his family. Maybe we should have paid more attention to him and his possibly sneaky hands, but we didn't. The time came for us to slip on our glasses and in majestic beauty, the moon gracefully floated over the image of bright white light. • 37. Causes Of Solar Eclipse A solar eclipse is a type of eclipse that occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, and the Moon fully or partially blocks the Sun. This can happen only at new moon when the Sun and the Moon are in conjunction as seen from Earth in an alignment referred to as syzygy. In a total eclipse, the disk of the Sun is fully obscured by the Moon. In partial and annular eclipses, only part of the Sun is obscured. If the Moon were in a perfectly circular orbit, a little closer to the Earth, and in the same orbital plane, there would be total solar eclipses every month! However, the Moon's orbit is inclined at more than 5 degrees to the Earth's orbit around the Sun so its shadow at new moon usually misses Earth. Earth's orbit is called the ecliptic plane as the Moon's orbit must cross this plane in order for an eclipse to occur. In addition, the Moon's actual orbit is elliptical, often taking it far enough away from Earth that its apparent size is not large enough to block the Sun totally. The orbital planes cross each other at a line of nodes resulting in at least two, and up to five, solar eclipses occurring each year; no more than two of which can be total eclipses. However, total solar eclipses are rare at any particular location because totality exists only along a narrow path on the Earth's surface traced by the Moon's shadow or umbra. An eclipse is a natural phenomenon. Nevertheless, in some ancient and modern cultures, solar eclipses have been attributed to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It would be a monumental experience that would shake my life and thousands of others for as long as they lived. My sister, my Father and I would drive all the way from Washington, DC to Charleston, South Carolina. Sitting on the tan, leather seats of our black Toyota land cruiser, it was the kind of day when your legs would stick to the seats from the summer heat, but it was also the day we would begin our trek. We would leave the comfort of our home to view the Great American Eclipse from Charleston, South Carolina. • 41. The Eclipse By Selma Lagerlof Analysis There is no darkness of annihilation around, no fear of absolute, preternatural loneliness, no dissolution of human languageing. This is the space of the everyday, as analysed by Heidegger, Lefebvre and Tagore (Guha 93–94). As Ranajit Guha argues, everydayness, though different from the grand narratives of historicity, is always imbued with a sense of the past, and as such, it is grounded in "social time". Guha writes: [...] as Heidegger observes, "Everydayness is a way to be–to which, of course, that which is publicly manifest belongs." Such a way to be implies being with others in a social time based on a mutually subscribed notion of the past. (93) Thus, we can notice, everydayness is not just dull monotony, it is essentially a mode of being which acknowledges the neighbourhood of (necessary) others. It is monotonous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The basic difference between these two texts is generic: while Koula is a novella, Lagerlof's text is a short story. However, there are thematic and even structural parallels between the two. Koula, despite its slightly larger scope, retains a short–story–like structure. And that is mainly because it is as much a novella of everydayness as that of loneliness. Everydayness can never be as fruitfully captured in longer fiction as in short fiction. Lagerlof's characters too, just like Koula, belong to the domain of everydayness, and they are only too well acquainted with its monotony. The central figure is Beda, an old woman who is completely lonely, as "all her dear ones were resting in the churchyard" (Lagerlof 793). However, though Beda's loneliness as an old woman is foregrounded here, Lagerlof does not create any essential correlation between age and loneliness. Rather, the loneliness she figures forth is more oriented to gender than to age. All the female neighbours of Beda are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of Total Eclipse By Annie Dillard Description Essay " Total Eclipse " By Annie Dillard Annie Dillard's " Total Eclipse " depicts her own existential crisis while watching the 1979 solar eclipse. Using metaphors and Stream of Consciousness Writing she details her own dissociative hallucination. She begins her work by describing her morning, comparing it to an avalanche, " It had been like dying, " She wrote. " that sliding down the mountain pass. It had been like the death of someone, irrational, that sliding down the mountain pass and into the region of dread. IT was like slipping into fever, or falling down that hole in sleep from which you wake yourself whimpering. " Setting the tone for the essay, death and irrational thoughts filling her mind as it unfolds around her. She compares the avalanche to death, foreshadowing her own avalanche, an avalanche of the mind. Her own avalanche happens while she is standing outside on a mountain, watching the eclipse with her husband. She slips into a dissociative delusion, writing, " I looked at Gary; He was in the film. Everything was lost, He was a platinum print, a dead artist's version of life. I saw on his skull the darkness of night mixed with the colors of day. My mind was going out; my eyes where receding the way galaxies recede to the rim of space. Gary was light–years away, gesturing inside a circle of darkness, down the wring end of a telescope. • 49. Four Causes Of Solar Eclipses Solar eclipses are known for their beautiful and definitely interesting look they give upon the naked eye. To be more precise it is when the sun, moon, and earth are lined up in the same plane. When doing so the moon goes in between the Earth and sun either covering or partially covering our most closest star. There happens to be four kinds of eclipses in total. Total, annular, partial, and hybrid. Each eclipse has different t affects, causes, and looks that give them their name. The first eclipse to review is Total solar eclipses. Studies show that on average, they tend to appear every 18 months on Earth. Also, there are two types of shadows named the umbra and the penumbra. An umbra is when a certain part of the shadows shows no light whatsoever. A penumbra is lighter and more funnel–shaped shadow that allows only a little bit of sunlight to pass. During this eclipse the moon cast its umbra in just a few hours which means that it can sweep a third of the way around the planet! Some say that if in the path of the umbra you may see the suns disk diminish into a crescent. This is because the moons shadow heads toward them. A corona is the tenuous outer atmosphere of the sun. Briefly during this eclipse, the corona is revealed as the sun is completely covered. Sadly, this beautiful piece of art only lasts a few minutes as the longest one ever recorded was seven minutes making it rarely ever seen. Next, a partial eclipse is only seen when the penumbra passes overhead. Meaning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I started engaging in theatre in sixth grade, playing a nun in the ensemble of The Sound of Music. Negative Effects Of Solar Eclipses With the impending solar eclipse set to darken the skies briefly on Monday afternoon, physicians across the country are preparing to treat cases of optical damage caused by glaring at the "dark" sun. Unfortunately, many people believe that because the sun is blocked, it blocks the harmful ultraviolet rays from reaching one's eyes, but that is not the case. Assistant professor in the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Tamara S. Oechslin, explains "it is never safe to stare directly into the sun, and that includes during the eclipse" (Janarthanan). But, these eclipses have been occurring for thousands of years. In fact, the ancient Chinese believed that solar eclipses were dragons devouring the sun (NASA). Obviously, the general population has come to a much stronger understanding of what a solar eclipse entails, but they do not necessarily follow guidance related to viewing the eclipse. In 1999, a solar eclipse occurred and "several thousand people rang helplines or attended special eclipse clinics" (Dobson). However, "the number of cases of solar retinopathy than was widely feared" (Dobson). Solar retinopathy is the damage caused by someone looking at the sun with improper or no eye protection. The retina, the home of light–sensing cells, is then damaged by the harmful rays of the sun. Treatment to try and heal the effects of solar retinopathy has proven ineffective (Dobson). Why Twilight is Terrible and Why Stephanie Meyer Should Never Be Allowed Near Any Sort of Writing Utensil Twilight is the first book in a series of vampire–fantasy–romance novels written for teens and young adults which revolve around the lives of the two titular characters, Bella Swan and Edward Cullen, and the complications of their romantic relationship. The book is written by Stephanie Meyer and is told through the eyes of 17 year old Bella Swan, as she moves from Phoenix, Arizona to Forks, Washington to live with her father, Charlie. She soon meets Edward Cullen, a 105 year old vampire posing as a high school student. The two become infatuated with each other and form a haphazard relationship which is threatened by the fact that Edward constantly wants to kill Bella and drink her blood. Their involvement with each other leads to Bella's life being threatened and Edward must save her. From the begging of the book, we can see that Bella may not be the most emotional or personal character based on her relationship with her father. Bella is very distant from her father, as she left him and Forks with her mother when she was only a child. She does not show much emotion or love towards him, even after he buys her a truck, and refers to him as Charlie rather than dad or father or papa or any other sort of informal noun to describe one's father, a person who is about 50% responsible for your existence. • 59. Two Types Of Solar Eclipses In Greek History An eclipse is an astronomical event that happens when a celestial object such as a moon or a planet moves into the shadow of another celestial body and there are two types of the eclipse on Earth named solar eclipse and lunar eclipse. A solar eclipse happens when the moon's shadow falls somewhere on the surface of the earth and a lunar eclipse is the opposite of solar eclipse which happens when the earth's shadow falls on the moon. There are two sections of the shadow, the dark umbra, and the partially shaded penumbra, their placement determines the type of eclipse that can be seen on earth though placement sun. According to Greek history, the person who predicted the first eclipse was a Greek mathematician, Thales of Miletus. On May 28, 585 BC, the Lydians, and Medes were engaged in fierce fighting and this was the six–year of war between them. Each was from a different side of Anatolia which is modern–day Turkey. As the battle stretched on into the evening, both armies were surprised to see the Sun suddenly darkening and they believed that it was a message from the gods that they were displeased by the strife. But the Lydians and Medes laid down their arms. They swore to end the long war and solidified the peace by giving a Lydian princess to marry the king of the Medes. This is one of the earliest events in recorded history to which we can set an exact date as we can calculate when that eclipse took place. The eclipses are valuable to the historian as they give us an event that we can use to correctly date ancient chronologies. Ancient historians recorded that his eclipse that stopped the war was actually predicted by Thales. Through thousands of year, patiently watching the movements of the Sun and Moon in the sky, ancient astronomers realized eclipses happen when the moon passed directly in front of the Sun. For the solar eclipse to work though, of course, the moon has to be big enough to block out the sun. In reality, the moon is 400 times smaller than the Sun but in a fantastic cosmic. However, from our point of view, the moon is almost exactly the same size as the sun in the sky and this means it will line up and it will completely block the disc of the sun. Annular solar eclipsePartial solar eclipse An annular solar eclipse (left) occurs when the Moon is too far away to completely cover the Sun 's disk (May 20, 2012). During a partial solar eclipse (right), the Moon blocks only part of the Sun 's disk (October 23, 2014). As seen from the Earth, a solar eclipse is a type of eclipse that occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, and the Moon fully or partially blocks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A total solar eclipse can be frightening to people who are unaware of its astronomical explanation, as the Sun seems to disappear during the day and the sky darkens in a matter of minutes. Since looking directly at the Sun can lead to permanent eye damage or blindness, special eye protection or indirect viewing techniques are used when viewing a solar eclipse. It is technically safe to view only the total phase of a total solar eclipse with the unaided eye and without protection; however, this is a dangerous practice, as most people are not trained to recognize the phases of an eclipse, which can span over two hours while the total phase can only last up to 7.5 minutes for any one location. People referred to as eclipse chasers or umbraphiles will travel to remote locations to observe or witness predicted central solar eclipses.[3][4] For the date of the next eclipse see the section Recent and forthcoming solar eclipses. • 63. The Stereotypical Gender Ring : Bella Swan 's Indifference... Shania Savastio Professor Mitchell GWS 319–Women and Popular Culture Research Proposal and Thesis October 5, 2015 Entering the Stereotypical Gender Ring: Bella Swan's Passivity vs. Rosalie Hale's Proactivity For my research project I have decided to choose a character from a popular book series, Twilight which was written by Stephenie Meyer. The forbidden love story between a plain human girl and a gorgeous vampire boy sparked the hearts of millions, but the singular character I'm conducting my research on is Rosalie Hale. While Bella Swan, the main character is passive, Rosalie Hale is proactive. This is shown through her avengement of her brutal rape, rescuing her later husband, and speaking her mind frequently about her distrust of Swan throughout the four novels. I was immediately drawn to Rosalie Hale because my thirteen year old self adored Twilight. I happily devoured the books in hours and awaited eagerly till past my bedtime for Breaking Dawn to be released. When I first looked over the project, the book series popped into my mind, bringing back all of my feelings for the novels before. More specifically, Rosalie Hale's character. In the book she is often overlooked and seen as the jealous, stunning snob that just didn't understand the gravity of Bella and Edward's irrevocable love. I thought that, too, until years later when I realized that Rosalie had proven to be the only voice of reason in the novels that will speak out against Bella Swan. The facts that I ... • 65. The Solar Eclipse Adventures : Solar Eclipse Adventures Solar Eclipse Adventures The solar eclipse is a once in a lifetime event that people from all over the state, the country, and the world came to see. There was much talk around the country about the upcoming eclipse; some people were very interested in it while others, like myself, were not. Everyone did something different on the day of the eclipse; some went to special places while others might've stayed home. My adventure on the eclipse took me down to the Meramec River with three dogs, three kayaks, my dad, and my sister. The morning started off warm, with no breeze and a temperature of about eighty degrees. The plans for the day were to go on a float trip putting in at Sappington Bridge and paddling down to the Meramec Bridge, but we had gotten a late start so plans didn't go accordingly. On the way up to my shed to get our dusty, green kayaks out, I opened the gate and the metal piping was sizzling hot. My hands were burning after opening both gates for the truck to go through. After opening up the shed and picking up the kayaks, we maneuvered them out the door of the shed. We loaded them up on the truck, ratcheted them down, and headed to Sappington Bridge. We put the kayaks in the water and paddle upstream to the first rock bar where we got out, but we weren't the only ones on the rock bar so we had to keep our dogs down on our end. The water was slow, hardly any current at all, and the air was fresh and sweet. We debated about whether or not to stay at the river ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 67. Observation Of Solar Eclipses Solar eclipses provide a unique opportunity to observe the sun itself owing to the moon providing a clear view of the solar chromosphere. Observations of the sun during a solar eclipse lead to a variety of discoveries ranging from the discovery of elements to a deeper understanding of solar activities such as coronal mass ejections. The use of equipment in new ways allows scientists to make previously unimaginable discoveries as Pierre Jansen discovered in 1868 while observing the sun. With the knowledge of atomic emission spectroscopy and new instruments Pierre Jansen "observed the spectrum of the chromosphere that was briefly visible at the beginning and at the end of totality"and "saw a bright yellow emission line"(Pasachoff, 2009). After further observation without an eclipse he and Norman Lockyer independently confirmed that this line indicated the presence of a new element named helium. Observations of this nature can produce false positives as was the case for coronium. From solar observation green, red, and "several fainter emission lines"(Pasachoff, 2009) were observed and attributed to an element named coronium. The existence of such an element was later disproved when it was discovered that these lines came from "highly ionized states of iron, calcium and nickel"(an astro...). Solar observation during an eclipse can also give insight to solar phenomena such as coronal mass ejections, also known as CMEs. CEMs are "billion–ton clouds of magnetized plasma ejected from ... • 69. Trigonometry: The Hipparchus Catalogue Essay Have you ever wondered how many astronomers were out there? And also what they have contributed to this world? Well this astronomer I'm about to talk about, his name is Hipparchus. Hipparchus is a greek astronomer, mathematician and geographer. Hipparchus brought 3 contributions models, another math formula, and a method of prediction. He proposed around 250 BC, the Earth went around the Sun. If you want to find out more about this astronomer keep reading and you'll find out about his life and about his contribution to this Earth. Also to the mathematical world by bringing another form of math into the equation. Around 190 BC Hipparchus was born in Nicaea in Bithynia (Now know as Turkey.) Hipparchus was the 1st astronomer to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This scale is still used today. The only difference from then and now is Hipparchus did not have the luxury of using a telescope. Ptolemy continued Hipparchus's work and his catalogue after he was dead. He gather another 37 in the end the total was 1080 stars. Hipparchus was credited with dividing a circle into 360 degrees. This was 1st used in trigonometry but later on used in other mathematical formulas and equations. Hipparchus had referred to Timocharis, who was and astronomer who lived 150 years before him. Hipparchus appears on many Roman coins from five different emperors reigns in 138 AD and 253 AD. Hipparchus has made three contributions to astronomy. Hipparchus was the 1st Greek to create a quantitative and an accurate model for the motion of the Sun and Moon. Another contribution he made is more towards mathematical contribution. Hipparchus possessed a trigonometric table and he likely solved problems of spherical trigonometry. The last contribution is he made a reliable method of predicting solar eclipses, and the compilation of the first comprehensive star catalog. Hipparchus has many others work but sadly they are now lost. These included an astronomical and astrological writings and a catalogue of his own works. In summary, Hipparchus was a Greek astronomer who gave three things to astronomy and the mathematical world. He kept a catalogue of all the stars he had observed over time. After Hipparchus ... • 71. Misconceptions On Solar Eclipses An example of popular media covering topics in astronomy is USA Today's article "How can you safely view the eclipse? And 38 other questions, answered". The article, written by USA Today weather/climate reporter Doyle Rice, covers frequently asked questions about eclipses before the "Great American Eclipse". These questions include common misconceptions about solar eclipses, the socioeconomic impacts of the eclipse event, and safety precautions individuals should take before watching the event. The topics covered in the article are important because they pertained to this year's rare solar eclipse, the first total solar eclipse, Rice notes, to be visible only in the United States since 1776. If the rarity of the event were not enough, eclipses ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. Analysis Of The Solar Eclipse In 1831 : Year Of EclipseBy... Louis Masur, as a professor of history has delivered a significant contribution to the comprehensive understanding of various events and their relevance to the development status of the American society. In the 1831: Year of Eclipse book, the author presents an important text, in which he discusses the reasons why he believes the 1831, the year of the eclipse, is an important factor in the American development journey. The American current development status is a product of many of events and processes, most of which have delivered a significant impact on the social, economic, as well as political spheres of the country. Among the most significant events that have remained major landmarks in the history of America is the solar eclipse in 1831, which impacted on the antebellum America. The significance, the argument of Louis Masur, is a product of the belief that the eclipse was the advent of change in the country. This belief further strengthened when some of the anticipated changes came to pass. For instance, among the changes include the Nat Turner insurgence in 1831, the revival that characterized various religious movements and ideologies, industrial revolution as well as political transformations. The author uses the idea of the solar eclipse to demonstrate the prevailing nature of the conflicts that existed in the historical America at the time, including the anxiety between oppression and liberty, the light and the dark, the introduction and use of machineries ... • 75. Effects Of A Solar Eclipse What is a solar eclipse? What effect might a solar eclipse have on one? A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the sun and the earth. This makes the sun align behind the moon as it blocks the sun's beautiful and gleaming rays. When the sun is behind the moon, it seems as if it is as dark as night and makes the sun look like a ring of fire high in the sky. During a solar eclipse, many things can happen that one would be astonished by observing such as, the actual object, changes in the atmosphere, animals and people's behavior, and emotional and sensual feelings. The object that appeared in the sky had everyone's attention and concentration, not only that day, but weeks before. Everyone had been talking about the upcoming solar eclipse. Teachers planned lessons, and posters lined the walls to inform students of expectations and safety measures. A solar eclipse, an event appealing to the eye, is an unforgettable phenomenon that can leave someone with the experience of a lifetime. On the day of the eclipse, the view of the sun was oddly bright and dim. The sky was as bright as a sun rise early in a summer's morning. It was so bright I was tempted, yet scared to look at it. The whole Middleton High School separated to go outside and watch the eclipse in different areas. The location where we watched the eclipse only allowed us to see the moon partially blocking the sun. We all saw the sun slowly lose its rays as the moon raced to appear in front. Although the total ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. Narrative Essay On Solar Eclipse On August 21st of this year, my generation got to discover an event that I found absolutely breath taking. A total solar eclipse passed over the United States, making it distinguishable in the afternoon sky from the ground. The total solar eclipse only occurs when the moon aligns just directly in front of the Sun, a sight which most people will never get to see in their lifetime. Three weeks back, I bought glasses in preparation to see the full phenomenon. Myself and a few of my close friends went on a mission to see the total eclipse from the best vantage point I could, which landed me a tad bit south of Crossville, TN. I left campus Sunday night to join some friends back home who were also anticipating the event. The next morning around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We drove at a speed in the range of 60 to 70 miles an hour, down an old narrow country road, racing the eclipse so that we could experience it in the most ideal position possible. It was quite dangerous as none of us had seat belts on and were holding on to the safety handle. The ride was an adrenaline rush. Four or five minutes away we pulled off on the side and stepped away from our cars. In a field, way out in what could only be described as B.F.E. Tennessee, we gathered around on the side of the road and counted down to totality. Scientists will tell you that the gravity is lighter on the surface of the earth directly amid a full eclipse. To some degree, maybe the adrenaline and gravity were at fault for the emotional reaction that I felt during the eclipse. The minute felt too dreamlike to be in any way genuine, like a scene from a sci–fi film or the start of the end of the world. The green hue of the sky just before, rushing emotions, and all the people who had gathered in strange places to watch this event together made it feel like an important moment in my life. And when the sun was completely secured behind the shadow of the moon, all the light for miles around, went dark, and all went silent. For around 30 seconds, I heard cicadas chirp the way they do at dusk. Looking up into the dark afternoon sky was comparable to considering the eye of a divine being. I saw ...
