Project54 focuses on research areas related to mobile and ubiquitous computing for police work including device integration, handheld computing, speech user interfaces, and wireless communication. The project has integrated over 1000 police cruisers with its system across several states and is working on handheld devices to allow police to work outside cruisers. It is also researching how speech interfaces could be used in vehicles through a driving simulator. The project has implemented a statewide wireless Project 25 system for voice and data in New Hampshire and is looking to expand locally.
