Henri Cartier-Bresson
Henri Cartier-Bresson, was kindly regarded as one of the great photographers of the 20th
century. Born August 22, 1908 – August 3, 2004. passed away aged 95. Cartier-Bresson was
born in Chanteloup-en-Brie, Seine-et-Marne, France, the oldest of five children. His father
was a wealthy textile manufacturer, whose Cartier-Bresson thread was a staple of French
sewing kits. His mother's family were cotton merchants and landowners from Normandy,
where he spent part of his childhood. The Cartier-Bresson family lived in a bourgeois
neighborhood in Paris.

Deborah Luster
Luster is best known for the series, One Big Self: Prisoners of Louisiana, which she undertook in
1998 with poet C. D. Wright. This collection of photographic portraits portrays prisoners from
three Louisiana prisons including the infamous Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola. In her
2003 monograph (she writes), “I chose to photograph each person as they presented their
very own selves before my camera on the chance that I might be fortunate enough to
contact, as poet Jack Gilbert writes ‘their hearts in their marvelous cases’. Luster was born on
April 27th 1951 present (age 62 years).
