1. Magazine Genre Representation
The genre of magazine I have chosen to analyse is an
essential monthly annual: men’s fitness and men’s health.
These are specific to the category for getting ‘Ripped’.
The magazines are very similar and have a lot in common;
they’re near enough the same but made by two totally
different companies.
What do the magazines have in common?
The headings are exactly the same, wrote across the top with
the model/models head covering part of it. This shows that
all of the title doesn’t need to be shown; people already
know what its called/what type of magazine it is. All this
information came from the medias audience profile. The
media also know what to write to keep up the date with the
audience/customer by their audience profile.
The writing on both issues also starts big bulgy at the top
and always gets smaller towards the bottom. This shows
that one of the designers have pinched the idea off the other.
This interferes with the magazine sales; they’re the same so
competition/rivalry starts on who can make ‘the best
magazine’.
The media both use the use of big lads to model for them,
this is because it’s a bulking magazine and they want
someone on the front of the magazine for inspiration. If
there weren’t anyone modelling then they wouldn’t have no
one to write about or use as an example. The magazines
both have little ‘tips’ that are not to do with the gym or
anything, I think this is because they’re trying to catch the
readers eye, why? The companies are both in competition.
2. Personally, I think that ‘men’s health’ is the better issue; it
looks a lot more professional and has more pictures/quotes
inside it.
Representation
Both of the magazines are both presented to men, you know
this because it has ‘sex tips’ and give you a lot of other tips,
secondly: There’s a man on the cover of it, this is also
because you cant really go to the gym to get big when you’re
young because your body is still producing too much
testosterone. So you don’t need no protein shakes or
anything that involves much protein, you can still eat what
you want when you want. The average age range is 18-49
according to the age range in the audience profile.
18-49 is a perfect age range, that’s an average mans training
years, your not to you young or old. I think the lay out and
the words used are there for men to try, when your 18 your
free to do anything you want and by this magazine is one of
them!
Genre
The genre of both of these magazines is counted as a ‘lads
mag’.
in summary, I believe that these sort of magazines are made
to sell with a couple of tips/hints and shortcuts to getting a
better body. It is very successful but only to bodybuilders
and peple who are dedicated etc.
