Data Protection
The General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) is expected to come into force next
year. The regulation will herald huge changes for companies including:
• Territorial scope will be increased to include controllers or processors outside of the
EU
• Mandatory reporting of breaches
• New rules on profiling customers
• Fines of 1m euros or 2% of the global annual turnover can be levied on companies
who breach regulations
• New rules on consent
• Increased focus of operational adequacy and accountability
