Advitiya Bharat is an initiative to capture the scintillating and
enchanting heritage of India in the form of a box. Our effort is to let
the world know about the rich and diverse culture and traditions that
we have and help the Art and Artisans flourish further.
The traditions of India and its arts and crafts are some of the oldest and diverse in the
world. They represent a unique and continuous ethos and aesthetic sensibility right
through thousands of years – that has seen a remarkable ability to assimilate, remake, re-
shape the incoming styles, ideas, artists and techniques and yet retain the core essence.
Indian crafts are a riot of colors, textures and motifs, materials and mediums that changes
with each region, village and community having its own distinct style and history.
We researched about the indigenous art and crafts, distinctiveness in terms of food and
apparels of each region of India and put it in a beautiful box. Top of the box carries
intricate laser engraved images that are distinctive of particular region.

Uttar Pradesh in one of the most ancient cradles of Indian culture . The handicrafts of
Uttar Pradesh have earned a reputation for themselves over the centuries. The traditional
handicrafts are of a vast variety such as textiles, metal ware, woodwork, ceramics,
stonework, articles made of horns, bone, cane and bamboo, perfumes etc. These cottage
crafts are spread all over the state but the more important centres are located at Varanasi,
Meerut, Muradabad, and Agra. Carpets from Bhadohi and Mirzapur are prized
worldwide, Carved woodwork from Saharanpur is also important. Khurja's dishes,
pitchers, and flower bowls in blazed ceramics are the most attractive.

5. Taj Replica
About: One of the seven wonders of world The Taj is a
white marble mausoleum located in Agra, Uttar Pradesh,
India.
History: It was built by Mughal emperor
Shah Jahan in memory of his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal.
In 1983, the Taj Mahal became a UNESCO World
Heritage Site. While the white domed marble mausoleum
is the most familiar component of the Taj Mahal, it is
actually an integrated complex of structures. The
construction began around 1632 and was completed
around 1653, employing thousands of artisans and
craftsmen.

6. Woodwork
About: Saharanpur is famous for its wood carving cottage
industry. Artistic woodwork began as a temple and palace
craft, and flourished alongside architecture and sculpture.
History: Depending on local availability, different woods
were used for wood carving, and fashioned into religious,
decorative and functional articles. Over time, various
centres of wood carving emerged, each with its distinct
style. Today, Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh is the principle
centre for wood carving. The origins of the craft can be
traced back to the late 19th century.

7. Stone Carving/Inlaying
About: The art of stone carving/Inlaying in India has been a
tradition through centuries especially in Agra and Rajasthan.
History: Eastern Uttar Pradesh has rich deposits of soft
stone, the main centre for which is Varanasi where the artisans
belong to a community called raidas.
The Taj Mahal represents the highest glory in inlaid work
during that of 16th and 17th century. Stone crafts of Up have
shown their creativity through intricate architectural
masterpieces. This art is seen in forts and palaces. There is a
Hamirpur Industry in Uttar Pradesh dedicated for stone
carving alone.

8. Marble Craft
About: Marble inlay is the same art which has been used on the
walls of TAJ MAHAL built by Shahjahan in 1653 in Agra (India)
and also in other Mughal monuments -Agra Fort, Itmatuddaulah,
Fatehpursikri. Lapis lazuli, Onyx, jasper, cornelian have been
combined with marble of various hues to create designs of
unsurpassed elegance.
History: In this art also known as pietra dura inlay, beautiful
floral and geometric patterns are created using various semi-
precious stones like LAPIS LAZULI (Afghanistan), MALACHITE
(South Africa), TURQUOISE (Iran), CORAL (Italy ),
CORNELIAN (India), PAUA SHELL (New Zealand) and many
other stones. Then these stones are inlaid in Indian marble, black
marble, Indian green marble (Baroda green) etc.

9. Perfume/ Attar
About: The history of natural attar is very much associated to
the history of Kannauj. Attar, perfume or fragrances made
from natural substances.
History: Kannauj has been known for natural attars from the
Mughal period or even earlier In India and middle East, attars
are made as offerings to the God. There are evidences in
history and Hindu sacred books that perfumery tradition dates
back to over 5000 years at the time of Indus valley
civilization as well when distillation practice was reported to
be in existence.

10. Khurja Pottery
About: Khurja is a city in the Bulandshahr District in the
Indian state of UP .Khurja supplies a large portion of the
ceramics used in the country, hence it is sometimes called The
Ceramics City.
History: The history of Khurja Pottery goes back to about
600 years ago, when some of the potters' families moved from
Delhi to Khurja during reign of Emperor Mohammad-bin-
Tughlak. Starting with red clay pottery they moved on to blue
glaze and on red clay articles with engobe of white clay,
painting floral designs with cupric oxide and applying a soft
glaze containing glass and borax etc. Khurja is now famous
for its ceramics. With over 500 factories
producing ceramic works, its skyline is dotted with chimneys.

11. Black Pottery
About: Nizamabad, in Azamgarh District of Uttar Pradesh,
is renowned for its black pottery. This particular variety
features a shiny black surface with engraved silver patterns.
History: One of the oldest industries of the district, pottery
still contributes substantially to the economic life of the
people. The fancy pottery made in Nizamabad is famous in
the world.The earthen wares and statues of Gods and
Goddesses are also made. This particular smooth black play
is plentifully available in the district. The black look is
obtained by dipping the pot into the solution of clay and
vegetable. After that for better look they use mercury,ranga
and lead.

12. Metal ware
About: Uttar Pradesh is the largest Brass and Copper
making state in India with thousands of establishments.
History: Muradabaad in particular is famous for its metaal
ware. The city is known for its export of brass handicrafts to
North America and Europe, and is also thus called "Brass
City" or Peetal Nagri. The city has more than 400 factories
manufacturing brass, aluminium, iron and glass handicrafts.
In domestic-ware each of the scores of lotas (small water-
pots) is known by the name of its origin, like Banaras,
Sitapur, etc. The ritual articles are largely in copper like
Tamrapatra (pot for storing water); panchapatra for holding
in all the articles needed for worship; Simhasan a seat for the
deity; Kanchanthal, plate for offering flowers and sweets,
and a host of such things.
