This document contains slides from a workshop on social entrepreneurship given by Stephen Carrick-Davies at Centurion University of Technology and Management in Bhubaneswar, India in January 2015. The workshop covered definitions of social entrepreneurship, examples of social entrepreneurs, qualities of social entrepreneurs such as being passionate, practical, and persistent, and how to build a culture of social entrepreneurship. It included group activities to discuss participants' social enterprise ideas and how to fund a social enterprise. The goal was to introduce the topic through interactive learning.

2. Context of this presentation
• The following slides were used in a 3 hour interactive
workshops with students at the Centurion University
in Bhubaneswar, India by Stephen Carrick-Davies in
January 2015.
• This was a workshop not a lecture and the slides are
uploaded here to give an idea of the session and the
way this subject can be introduced through activity
based learning.
• They are uploaded here for the students but also to
help others who want to introduce the topic of Social
Entrepreneurship.
• At the end of the presentation there are links to other
organisations who are committed to supporting social

Can you combine lots of things and still call yourself a Social Entreprenuer ?

innovative solutions to society's most pressing
social problems.
They are ambitious and persistent, tackling
major social issues and offering new ideas for
wide-scale change.

Someone who works in an
entrepreneurial manner, but for
public or social benefit rather than
to make money.
It can be
• very hard
• lonely
• scary
• and you will fall and make mistakes,
but.... the view from the top is amazing !

 A clear business plan
 A clear fundraising and income generation
programme
 A cash flow and risk analysis
 An appropriate structure and governance
 A board of directors, trustees or advisors
 A system of being accountable, transparent and
ethical in all you do !
