Context of this presentation
• The following slides were used in a 3 hour interactive
workshops with students at the Centurion University
in Bhubaneswar, India by Stephen Carrick-Davies in
January 2015.
• This was a workshop not a lecture and the slides are
uploaded here to give an idea of the session and the
way this subject can be introduced through activity
based learning.
• They are uploaded here for the students but also to
help others who want to introduce the topic of Social
Entrepreneurship.
• At the end of the presentation there are links to other

Can you combine lots of things and still call yourself a Social Entreprenuer ?
Social entrepreneurs are individuals with
innovative solutions to society's most pressing
social problems.
They are ambitious and persistent, tackling
major social issues and offering new ideas for
wide-scale change.
But this is Personal
Someone who works in an
entrepreneurial manner, but for
public or social benefit rather than
to make money.
It can be
• very hard
• lonely
• scary
• and you will fall and make mistakes,
but.... the view from the top is amazing !

 An appropriate structure and governance

ethical in all you do !

Context of this presentation • The following slides were used in a 3 hour interactive workshops with students at the Centurion University in Bhubaneswar, India by Stephen Carrick-Davies in January 2015. • This was a workshop not a lecture and the slides are uploaded here to give an idea of the session and the way this subject can be introduced through activity based learning. • They are uploaded here for the students but also to help others who want to introduce the topic of Social Entrepreneurship. • At the end of the presentation there are links to other organisations who are committed to supporting social entrepreneurship. “In the past we were defined by what we own, today we are defined by what we share” Chalres Leadbeater

WHAT WILL WE COVER IN THIS SESSION  What is Social Entrepreneurship ?  Examples of Social Entrepreneurship  Qualities of a Social Entrepreneur  The 4 Ps of Social Entrepreneurship  How we could build a culture of Social Entrepreneurship on this campus and across Indian universities? Through group activities using films, case studies, role-play, brainstorming, question time and looking at mistakes !
  • 6. A good place to start What do you want from a job ? SE Is it a calling? A way of viewing all you do ? Can it be for a season? Can you combine lots of things and still call yourself a Social Entreprenuer ?
  • 7. Social entrepreneurs are individuals with innovative solutions to society's most pressing social problems. They are ambitious and persistent, tackling major social issues and offering new ideas for wide-scale change.
  • 8. But this is Personal Someone who works in an entrepreneurial manner, but for public or social benefit rather than to make money. It can be • very hard • lonely • scary • and you will fall and make mistakes, but.... the view from the top is amazing !
