 The setting of the match was Gomoh, a small town
near Dhanbad, Bihar. The likes of Vizzy, Pataudi
senior , Maharaja of Patiala ,Duleep Sinhji played
against X’s team .They arrived in their private
airplane .
 The inaugural ceremony of the match was initiated
by a shenai recital, though the Maharja of Patiala
had also arranged for a band to perform on the
occasion. Two players from X's side recited vedic
mantras to start off the proceedings.
 X played with a bat made from local wood, wore
a toka(headdress) made of palm-leaves and was
dressed in a dhoti. (This is a fictional account from
a newspaper )
 When we use apostrophe (‘) s after a singular noun
,apostrophe (‘) is used before s. But in case of
plural noun apostrophe should sit after s .
 However this rule is violated or it was used in a
singular form for some 5 years .Then it was
corrected or used in plural form .From then, It is
used in this form for near about 150 years.
 In a one day match againstWorcestershire,
Somerset lost by ten wickets . GlennTurner
scored the winning run for the team .
 Charles Burnett was the Man-of-the-Match
adjudicator. After some deliberation he wisely
decided that nobody was deserving of the award,
explaining it would be “improper”.
 Jack Badcock was one of the stalwarts of
Australian domestic cricket in the 1930s.
 Short and stocky, he was an extremely hard hitter
of the cricket ball; an extremely versatile batsman
 Badcock remains the only other batsman to have
scored a hundred and have never scored a two-
digit score.
 Because of his surname, he got many nickname
.Most popular is X because he looked like him . X
was also extremely aggressive but his field of
work was different.
 The first player to achieve this is G.Ulyett.
Clem Hill achieved it twice .First Indian in the
list is Rusi Modi .He is the 13th name in the list
Brian lara ,Vivian Richards also achieved this.
 Two Bearded player M.Ali and Hasim Ali
achieved this most recently. This list have 93
names . Most recent Indian to do this is
Pujara.
 Q1. What list or achievement?
 Q2. Ben Stokes is also in the List .What is so
unique about this
 X ,a teenage prodigy, played 55 FC matches for
Worcestershire. He was a left Handed batsman
and slow left arm bowler.
 In 1914, X scored a 178 not out ,which gained
praise fromWisden.
 X’s career was halted and cut short as he joined
Royal Artillery to serve inWorld war I
 During a match against Sussex, Surrey’s Freddie
Brown drove a half volley straight, hitting X .
After that the ground was struck with silence .
 The tragic passing of Phillip Hughes sent shock waves
throughout world cricket and sparked a search for a better
way to protect the back of a batsman’s neck.
 So X came up with an innovated equipment during their
match against UAE; a helmet that featured a grille at both
the front and the back.
 X was quoted as, "There was of course the unfortunate
death of Phil Hughes before Christmas, but I have seen
numerous players hit on the neck – my cousin Edser got
hit twice last year - so my father-in-law Alan Grant and I
decided we would put something together“….."I’m a
qualified electrician, but I have picked skills from up other
trades. I’m good at working with my hands and I thought
straight away that it was something I could do.”
 In 1872 Charles Alcock became the Secretary of
Surrey .He decided to hold other sports like
athletics ,baseball ,football matches at X.Though
Football was previously played at X, but under the
influence of Alcock it became hub of football .
 There is a myth that a certain Johnson saw a team
Y ,(Established on 1882) play at X and inspired to
do something in his country .
 X andY made debut in the very same match yet
their fate was different .When the main bowlers
of the team were unable to take wicket , X came
and took wicket of a top notch batsman .Took 3
wicket ,47 runs in 18 overs.
 X didn’t bowl a single ball in second inning after
the success of first inning and never played again.
 Y did very poor in his debut just took one wicket
in whole test match and that of Ravi Shastri.
 In the very series Z was taken for the tour, but
wasn't given debut. X,Z hail from same part of the
world.
 John Parker was a New Zealander with limited batting
skills. Nevertheless, he played a good number ofTest
matches for his country.
 Parker's most significant contribution to the game of
cricket happened even before he made his debut as an
international cricketer. He was not much of a bowler but
was a walking, talking M.C.C. coaching book and when X
was in trouble with his career, Parker helped him with all
his knowledge. X was on the verge of giving up cricket.
Parker helped him re-model his bowling action to an
extent and suggested him to add something to the action
which eventually made a lot of difference.Parker never
gained much stardom but X did and Parker played an
important role in that.Identify X.
 We popularly know X as the holder of this
long standing record which he achieved
during the MadrasTest in 1963-1964.
 But if both the innings of aTest match is
considered, this record is actually held byY, in
the 1956-57 season.
 Y had a strange habit of kissing the badge on
his cap before handing it to the umpire at the
start of every over.
 XY, is the name for any number of cemeteries,
chiefly in the AmericanWest. During the 19th
century it was a common name for the burial
grounds of gunfighters,or those who "died with
their X on”. It is a reference to the soldiers who
are employed at dangerous and vulnerable
positions and they have likelier chances to die .
 Due to this fact a position in fielding is also
called XY.
 1989-1990, Bishen singh Bedi was the manager of
the team to New Zealand .His notorious remark
about dumping the players in Pacific ocean is very
famous.(or infamous)
 He claimed his side lost because " as if it was not a
oneday international but X" .
 It was a clear attack on India’s batting failure from
typical Bedi.
 What is X?
 Hint: First Indian to score century in FC cricket
(Not to be confused by a jungly European)
 X is a former pacer who was described as "a similar
style bowler to Glenn McGrath"by the selectors.
 X was given the unique nickname after some
former pacerY, who was a pioneer for his country.
 On being asked how did he get his nickname he
replied,"I've never met him. It was given by Mark
Waugh when I was young. He thought I bowled in a
similar style. I didn't really like it and I objected to
it. And when you object to something it sticks."
 The animosity between X andY is well known in
cricket history.
 In an interview forTOI in April, 1950, X was
quoted saying "Y has done me a lot of harm. But
my reputation has been fully vindicated by no
less a celebrity than Bradman in his memoirs. He
had tried to drive me out of cricket, but without
success. One day soon, I feel sure, he will come
crawling to me, begging me to help him once
again"
 What is so unique about Hyderabad’s journey
to final in 1937-1938 Ranji ?
 In final they faced Nawanagar .They beat
Nawanagar by one wicket to claim their first
Ranji title.
This team has 100% winning record in test.
 They played their first match against Pakistan in
july,2000 .
Amid moist conditions following overnight rain,
Pakistan captain elected to bat on winning the toss.
They were all out For 53 in first innings and 86 in
the second. Pakistan lost the match with one
innings and 54 runs against their opponent’s
193/3D in the first innings.
X was selected as the player of the match for the
bowling effort . X’s surname is popularly known to
cricket followers.
Q18. In 1999 against J & K ,Himachal Pradesh’s
captain X scored a double hundred .He broke a
long standing record in this very match which was
previously held by a legendary batsmanY.
 ID X ,Y and the record
 X andY bear a very similar name.
 Their initials are also same naturally.
 X was a right arm fast bowler having a very
short international career. He excelled in
many sports and was state champion in high
jump, triple jump, long jump and pole vault.
He also played Hockey and Rugby.
 But X is mostly remembered among the
quizzers for his dubious achievement
 Y is considered as one of Australia's greatest
all rounder. He's the 1st player to achieve the
double of 1000 runs and 100 wickets inTest
history.Y led his side in 4 matches of the 2nd
everAshes series in 1894-95 and despite his
heroics with both bat and ballAustralia lost
the historic 1st match of the series. He has a
stand named after him in AdelaideOval.
 6 questions
 60 Marks in total
 Bonus 10 for Full House
 X's cricket commentary is characterised by his
plummy voice and his idiosyncratic mention of
superfluous details regarding the scene,
including things such as construction cranes or
numbers of pink shirts in the crowd; as well as
pigeons, buses, aeroplanes and helicopters that
happen to be passing by. After the tea and lunch
breaks he is also known to talk for extended
periods of time about the food on offer, in
particular cakes, with occasional interruptions to
describe the situation on the field. He also uses
the phrase "my dear old thing".
 This umpire had an eventful career, who officiated 17Tests
and 6 ODIs. He was the umpire of the India Pakistan match
in Bangalore famous for bee invasion.
 He was the one to give Desmond Haynes out 'handling the
ball’.
 Also the last day of his debutTest match was called off due
to civil unrest owing to Indira Gandhi's expulsion from
parliament.Desribing him as the best Indian umpire
Gavaskar wrote, “If only Mr X had been the umpire in my
lastTest innings, perhaps the story of thatTest would have
been different.”
 He was a very recognisable figure on the field due to his
heavyweightand habit of chewing tobacco while
umpiring. He also happens to be the 1st umpire to win
Padma shri award.
 X played for DU during his college days. During
those days DU team was very strong .Two of the
players of the then team went on to play test .X was
not of that calibre . X finds himself lucky being in the
eleven.
 On those days newspaper used to publish University
matches scorecard .X never made it in headlines. X
dreamed of being sent as night watchman .X was
denied of that opportunity. His highest score was 4.
 X stopped playing cricket in his mid twenties .
 X is among those few people who is liked by the
Gideon Haigh
 Denis Burns, Lancashire born cricketer who played
club cricket atWorsley CC and then umpired for 25
years at club level.
 Peter Manuel, Kandy born FC cricketer, played first
class cricket for well over 10 years for the Burgher
Recreation Club and, on retirement, started
Umpiring in 1983. Umpired firstTest Match in 1993
and ended up doing 11Test and 46 ODIs.
 David Levens, a Melbourne born cricketer, played
local cricket.
 These are the only 3 people who are designated as
ICC X and they do serve for it.
 When X left his village Gujranwala, X promised
his parents he will do something in his life .
 The right-handed middle-order batsman
survived the fast, bouncy test byY as both the
teenagers were picked on the first day of trials .
 Y went on to become a successful international
bowler .
 Where X played only 17 FC matches . But He
made it big as promised to his parents.

 Casino is a NSW town.It was in may 1869 ,a match
between X andY was played
 'The courier' came up with a report , "The day
passed off very pleasantly save one incident which
reflected upon the person chiefly concerned in
anything but a creditable manner...the incident will
probably appear in the casino police records.
 This incident was the first recorded report of
something in Australia. A very popular case of this
has been used in the cover of Duckworth Lewis Band
cover.
 Albert Rose-Innes
 Christopher Heseltine
 Gobo Ashley
 Basil Butcher
 X
 John Nyumbu
 There are many players who have taken five
wicket hauls in theirTest career. But what is so
special about these 6 players' five wicket haul ?
 Id X who is the only Indian in this exhaustive list.
 In his autobiography 'Playing toWin', reminiscing about the
1967 Eden Gardens riot X writes, "I looked up and saw our
national flags fluttering in the breeze, threatened by the fire
that was now coming towards the pavilion. I started to climb
up to get the flags and avoid surrendering them, the symbol
of sovereignty of our two nations, to ‘mob rule’.The plain-
clothes policeman said, ‘Don’t you go. I’ll get them.’ He went
and brought the two flags down, and gave them to me.”
 The viewers of the scene saw from a distance that a dark
man performing the act, and believed(and spread) X, being
the sole hero of the whole drama climbed the terrace amidst
spreading fire and retrieved the flag. Ananda Bazar Patrika
also reported the same under the headline TRUE CRICKET.
And the myth stayed. Who was X ?
 X was born in Madras with some dissimilarities
with the people of the area(mainly difference of
culture) .
 Something that is quite synonymous with people
of Madras, was absent in case of X. This
dissimilarity bothered some of his team mates.
 They asked him questions on his ancestral village
which X had no idea about ,but guessed the most
popular city of his ancestral area . X was asked
about his family and cast name . X had no idea
about that also. X remembered the guru. This is
possibly the story of origin of something.
 X was just about to begin his spell whenAshok
Mankad came up to him and said: “This is
my Bhagwaan that you are bowling to. If you can
beat his bat, I’ll buy you a pint of lager tonight.”
 X defeated the god with bowling .He then went to
Mankad to ask him buy another if he get the god
out in next over .
 X got him out in next over.
 X got the god Out few more times on the tour .
 Name the nemesis of the god.
 X, a South African, had been playing for Lancashire
since 2009 but got his Kolpac status in 2013. In 2015 in
a match againstYorkshire when X told the opposite
captain Andrew Gale to return to his fielding position,
Gale swore at him saying a "Kolpac fucker", referring
to his exemption from county cricket's overseas quota.
As a result of which Gale had to undergo an anger
management treatment in addition to missing the first
two matches ofYorkshire next season.
 So who was X who later dismissed the charge of racial
abuse ?
 X was a AustralianTest cricketer who represented
his country in 1936 against England scoring 2 and
3 and was never selected again. X was described
as " an outstanding right hand batting stylist
whose lack of judgement off the field ruined his
career."
 Another sweet (His sweetness may hurt)and great
sportsperson bears the same name.
 Another Person(Same name) , for his meticulous
efforts, see through visionary ,described by Neville
cardus with a 19th century invention .
 After being critical of X's performances in the
1983-84 series againstWest Indies, a
renowned Indian cricket journalist called him
a "StrokelessWonder".
 But after seeing the batsman's sensational
comeback and performances in the 1987
World Cup, the same writer wrote an article
called, " X: From StrokelessWonder to a
Palm-Grove Hitter".
 X was challenged by len hutton to hit Jim Laker
on sightscreen for €5.
 X hit hard very next ball ultimately found a 6
feet 5 inch PeterWalker.
 X said about this "could almost feel the crisp
fiver as the ball soared away towards the
sightscreen – but I hadn’t reckoned on the
tallest man on the field“
 X played 23 ODI with batting average more
than 58. X also played 22Tests.
 X was one of the 1st aboriginal player to play FC cricket in
Australia. He played 23 matches for Queensland. His first
over in first-class cricket, described by Don Bradman as
the fastest he ever faced. The story goes that X knocked
the bat fromThe Don’s hands with a sharp-rising delivery
before getting him caught behind for a duck later in the
over.
 He developed his pace cultivated through a flexible wrist
that he said was from years of boomerang throwing.
Sadly X never got chance to play for Australia due to his
aboriginality and suspect action.
 X is one of the only two FC cricketers to be honored with
a statue.
 The landmark(In next slide) is named after a
gentleman who had contributed for cricket of
Bengal .He is immortalized by CAB as they
have a trophy named after him for them he
loved most .
 X is quite expressive when it comes to
emotion, joy ,happiness . For X it is the reflection
of him as a human being and as a cricketer.
Sometimes it made him face criticism .
 A particular celebration of him is quite popularly
known asY celebration as it resembles with
pulling a cord.
 X took it as a funny remark .But points out “I
mean why would I take wicket and start aY?
What ,am I bowling in a forest ?“
 Before his debut , an astrologer had said him that
when he gets selected for the national side he will
get “world fame”. thought like the others from
the Royal family, he too would get a hundred on
debut.
 He shoot to fame after equalling a world record .
So Astrologer was right .
 X was invited by Greg Chappell in 2006 England
tour to help Indian cricket team.
 The match was quite eventful
 A Mumbaikar scored century on debut
 Omar Henry became oldest debutant for his country in
Test .He also achieved another feat in the same match
 Captain of Omar Henry’s team scored a century, thus
becoming the first person to achieve something that is
repeated in ODI cricket by Eoin Morgan.
 X got out off the first ball he faced thus becoming the
first person to achieve a dubious distinction.Y took the
catch of X.
 It all overshadowed.Y got out in the second day .That
was the highlight of the match
 In 1988-89, playing against Madhya Pradesh at
the Nehru Stadium in Pune, AnilWalhekar was
dismissed for 38 with X at the other end.
 According to X , ‘The moment Walhekar saw
stumps rattled ,he started crying. He was crying
so much on the pitch, I didn’t know how to
react.’
 X andWalhekar put up a 102 run partnership
Walhekar took lots of blows fromT Shekar,
batted brilliantly but eventually got out on 38.
 X representedAustralia inTest cricket between
December 1985 and December 1992 and in One Day
Internationals between January 1986 and March
1992. He played 27Test matches for Australia taking
113Test wickets at an average of 24.63 runs per
wicket. He also played 61 one-day-internationals
taking 63 ODI wickets. X bowled left-arm fast-
medium and had natural swing and an awkward
angle of delivery. Before Mohd Irfan came he and
Curtly Ambrose were the tallest cricketers at 6.9
 Y played in 19Tests and 25 One Day
Internationals between 1979 and 1986. HisTest
average was 46.28 and included sixTest
centuries. His ODI average was 27.52.Despite
having a very respectable batting average of
46.28, it was revealed thatY had the biggest
difference in batting averages from the first to
second innings by Cricinfo.Whilst possessing a
fantastic first innings average of 68.41,Y’s
second innings average was a dismal 12.6, a
difference of more than 56 runs.
 In 1980 a Greatest of All time eleven (A eleven which can
never be bettered)was published inTimes Sports diary which
was compiled by MarcusWilliams .
 Names are listed in a alphabetical order since It is very
