Women Empowerment
Why Women Empowerment is necessary
Women Empowerment refers to increasing and improving the social, economic,
political and legal strength of the women, to ensure equal-right to women, and to make
them confident enough to claim their rights, such as:
• freely live their life with a sense of self-worth, respect and dignity,
• have complete control of their life, both within and outside of their home and
workplace,
• to make their own choices and decisions,
• have equal rights to participate in social, religious and public activities,
• have equal social status in the society,
• have equal rights for social and economic justice,
• determine financial and economic choices,
• get equal opportunity for education,
• get equal employment opportunity without any gender bias,
• get safe and comfortable working environment.
Interviews
of people
about
how they
think
about this
issue
Interview 1:Arpita (Housewife)
Q1:Do you think women are empowered more
before marriage or after?
I don’t think it has anything to do with marriage. It has
more to do with the family you are living with. I was lucky
that I was born in a very good family because in mine
empowerment comes from education not gender.
Q2:What do you feel about the current status of
women in the society? Do you think they are
empowered enough?
Absolutely not. This is because the women in India who
wanted to become something or somebody in life but
could not because of the society, think that their
daughters or daughter in laws also should not. As a
result woman are not empowered enough.
As a male I think that we should give women a more safer
environment. Also what we see in today’s society is that
most of the housewives can’t leave their houses without
permission, so there should be a free movement or
mobility thing. As males, we should always see that
women are respected, protected, and when needed we
should help them in any way we can:-education wise,
their free movement, their jobs, etc. Women should be
independent enough and take decisions on their own.
Q2:In your opinion how can you raise more
empowered women? What are the
important things we should teach our
daughters?
Basically we need to educateour daughters. The same
the society should be more knowledgeable and our
opinion towards women should change. Again I come up
with the same answer:-give them a safer environment to
move around. Give them a better life as a male
counterpart and by this our society and our country will
progress.
Interview 2: Aditya Kalele (H.R and IT Head)
Q1:So Aditya, as a male how do you think you
can support woman struggle for
empowerment?
“You can break down a real woman
temporarily but a real woman will
always pick up the pieces, rebuild
herself and come back even
stronger than ever
Interview 3:Ranjini Krishnaswamy (Director Principal Billabong)
Q1:So Mrs Ranjini, the current statistic of women working in India is
15.4%. That is a depressing statistic. So in your opinion why is there
such an absence of working women and what can we do to change
that?
There are 2 kinds of sectors : Organised and unorganised sectors .I don’t agree
with that statistic; the reason being that we are considering the women employed
in organised sector and not in the unorganised sector .In the unorganised sector I
think a lot of women are working.
Q2:So in your personal experience as a working woman, have you
ever found it difficult to maintain the work-life balance? As in, working
and being there for your children?
Yes and No. I have been fortunate that I have been employed in a sector ,i.e.,
education sector, which is predominately filled with women. My family has been
fairly supportive . So I have been able to manage my work life and domestic life
balance. Incidentally, I must tell you that I did all my education after I got married.
So there’s also a question of determination and grit. I have decided that I have to
do it and I am going to do it.
Interview 5: A Mother
Q1:According to you what is women empowerment?
According to me women empowerment is about raising the status of
the women in society. The men should be more aware about this topic.
Women are very strong and they just do it. Women empowerment is
more about men realising that women are very strong people.
Q2:Do you think that women should come in front?
Yes definitely. Women are already coming in the front and in the past
also women have showed that they are strong and smart. Women like
Sarojini Naidu are great examples of this. The bottom line is that men
and women are equal. They share equal responsibilities. The difference
is only in the mind.
Q3:Do you think women should be educated?
Yes of course! Everyone should be educated, it is their birth right.
Women should be educated mainly because they are the ones who
teach their kids first. If they are educated, their kids will also be.
Interview 6:
Q1: What do you think is meant by women empowerment?
See, women empowerment is all about equality. You should give equal
rights to women as well as men. Our country is a developing ,so their
should be more focus om the theme: Education Is The Key For Women
Empowerment.
Q2:Do you think that women should come in the forefront?
Yes, that is because if a male leader can take you where you want to be,
then even a female leader can take you where you want to be. She can
lead you more nicely. If you educate a woman she will lead you with the
right mind set. She will help you to make right decisions, she will guide
you and will help in developing this country.
Interview 7:
Q1: What do you think is women
empowerment?
According to me women empowerment means giving
more power to the women to make the right decisions.
Decisions not related to the household work, but also to
the outside world. That is the main thing.
Q2:So do you think that the education of
women is important?
Definitely yes. Because if a person is illiterate, be any
gender, male or female, being an illiterate take away their
power of making decisions in any affair. So education is
very very important.
Interview 8:
Q1: Do you think that
women should come in the
fore front?
Yes. They should undoubtedly come in
the fore front. For this they should be
educated well, and it is their right to be.
If they want to a job we should let them.
It is very important that they come in
the front because if men and women
stand united they will not fall.

Women Empowerment

  • 1. A presentation by the students of Billabong High international School Women Empowerment
  • 2. Why Women Empowerment is necessary Women Empowerment refers to increasing and improving the social, economic, political and legal strength of the women, to ensure equal-right to women, and to make them confident enough to claim their rights, such as: • freely live their life with a sense of self-worth, respect and dignity, • have complete control of their life, both within and outside of their home and workplace, • to make their own choices and decisions, • have equal rights to participate in social, religious and public activities, • have equal social status in the society, • have equal rights for social and economic justice, • determine financial and economic choices, • get equal opportunity for education, • get equal employment opportunity without any gender bias, • get safe and comfortable working environment.
  • 4. Interview 1:Arpita (Housewife) Q1:Do you think women are empowered more before marriage or after? I don’t think it has anything to do with marriage. It has more to do with the family you are living with. I was lucky that I was born in a very good family because in mine empowerment comes from education not gender. Q2:What do you feel about the current status of women in the society? Do you think they are empowered enough? Absolutely not. This is because the women in India who wanted to become something or somebody in life but could not because of the society, think that their daughters or daughter in laws also should not. As a result woman are not empowered enough.
  • 5. As a male I think that we should give women a more safer environment. Also what we see in today’s society is that most of the housewives can’t leave their houses without permission, so there should be a free movement or mobility thing. As males, we should always see that women are respected, protected, and when needed we should help them in any way we can:-education wise, their free movement, their jobs, etc. Women should be independent enough and take decisions on their own. Q2:In your opinion how can you raise more empowered women? What are the important things we should teach our daughters? Basically we need to educateour daughters. The same the society should be more knowledgeable and our opinion towards women should change. Again I come up with the same answer:-give them a safer environment to move around. So in your opinion why is there such an absence of working women and what can we do to change that? There are 2 kinds of sectors : Organised and unorganised sectors .I don’t agree with that statistic; the reason being that we are considering the women employed in organised sector and not in the unorganised sector .In the unorganised sector I think a lot of women are working. Q2:So in your personal experience as a working woman, have you ever found it difficult to maintain the work-life balance? As in, working and being there for your children? Yes and No. I have been fortunate that I have been employed in a sector ,i.e., education sector, which is predominately filled with women. My family has been fairly supportive . So I have been able to manage my work life and domestic life balance. Incidentally, I must tell you that I did all my education after I got married.
