12. RICHANATARAJANMaking a Difference in the Financial World
IS: Kindly brief us about yourself, your initial journey since the beginning of your career?
Richa: I started my career in financial advisory and realized early on that working with clients,
advising them, and supporting them motivated me. After being part of large Fortune 500
companies for several years, I realized that I wanted a change: I wanted to make a difference.
Unitus Capital happened, quite frankly, by chance (at an airport!) and provided an opportunity to
use my financial skills to work with budding entrepreneurs who were looking to make a difference
in the lives of the masses — that for me was just the right combination.
IS: What drives you every day to work? Or what is your motivation which pushes you to
enhance your performance?
Richa: My clients drive and motivate me. I took on this role because I wanted to make a
difference while still using my skillsets in finance. The hard work, the energy, the ideas, and the
tenacity to push forward each day that I see from my clients is really what motivates me and
pushes me to do all that I can for them.
IS: How does your family contribute to your success? Talk about your family values, the
culture which has strongly impacted your professional journey?
Richa: My family is an integral part of who I am. All my values and basic characteristics are due
to the upbringing I have had as well as the family I have been married into. My husband is my
biggest cheerleader as well as my biggest critic. My kids are my greatest inspiration and I learn
from their “never-give-up” attitude each day.
My parents always told me that I could become whoever and whatever that I wanted to. They
never differentiated between me and my brother and gave us the exact same platforms to succeed.
I believe that my parents treating us like equals played a big part in where I am today. I continue to
do the same for my kids. In the world of finance, which is largely male dominated, I hope to be a
role model for many young girls out there who are unsure if they can do it. I first start with my
own daughter and hope that one day, by example, she will see that she can pave her own way (with
the support of others) and be who she wants to be without worrying about her gender.
September 2019|10
14. IS: Please mention the challenges, issues you have
faced in your professional journey and your efforts or
solutions you have identified to overcome the
challenges.
Richa: I have been fortunate to have had great
cheerleaders, supporters, and mentors along the way. I
was once told by a peer that “I am lucky to be a woman
and that I got a role on the basis of my gender and not on
merit”. That almost shattered my confidence until I
realized the biases that exist in the workplace. Ever since
then, I have pushed myself and others to ensure there is
equality in the workplace — everyone is judged on the
same plane and there is no special treatment irrespective
of any form of bias. I would like to see more and more
women succeed in breaking the stereotype of what they
“should be doing” versus what they are "capable of
doing".
IS: Apart from stirring such a high-end profile, who
is Richa Natarajan on the personal front?
Richa: An introverted home body who likes to spend
time with her family.
IS: Kindly describe in detail about Unitus Capital and
its unique services and products.
Richa: We are a social investment bank — as much of
an oxymoron as that is! We help raise capital for for-
profit social enterprises that provide innovative and
affordable products and services to the masses. We work
across debt and equity instruments as well as advise on
buy-side and sell-side transactions.
IS: Brief us about the industry scenario from your
perspective.
Richa: Impact investing is now becoming more
mainstream and is part of several commercial
enterprises. It is no more a niche play with few focusing
on it. There are now several sustainable and scalable
businesses that have evolved over the years. The next
few years will demonstrate that it is possible to generate
positive financial returns while still making a difference.
IS: What would you advise to the budding
entrepreneurs?
Richa: Never give up! It is a long and potentially lonely
journey — find all the pillars and support systems you
can. Ask as many questions as you need and don’t give
up — setbacks are what will teach you to pick yourself
up, reengineer, and move forward.
IS: Share with us the noted milestones,
accomplishments of your journey along with
highlighting the company’s achievements under your
leadership.
Richa: At Unitus Capital, we work collaboratively as a
team — all of our achievements are achieved
collectively. Over the past decade or so, we have raised
US$2+ billion for our clients across sectors, verticals,
products, and geographies. We have played a small part
in showcasing the impact investing ecosystem on the
map, at least in India. In the process, we have brought in
capital from several players globally into this ecosystem
—many of whom were first-time investors in India.
IS: State your passions, aims, and goals.
Richa: Working with entrepreneurs who are passionate
about making a difference while making sustainable
returns.
IS: How are you foreseeing the future in terms of
expansion of your business, the advent of new
technologies and increasing tech-enabled players in
the market?
Richa: We aim to be a full-service financial services
firm. We started with investment banking and moved on
to lending and hope to add on other verticals including
asset management in the near future. It is important to be
a full-service firm in the current market context.

16. A Talent to
ReckonKrutika Vakharia Transmuting the Industry Dynamics
Women entrepreneurs have had a significant role
to play in the development of local economies
for decades. This further led to the overall
development paradigm of the country. The contemporary
start-up led ecosystem has also witnessed a surge in women
entrepreneurs, who have successfully carved a niche for
themselves.
One such diligent personality, Krutika Vakharia - CFO,
Oakcapita Advisory has a rich experience of working in
the Investment Banking industry. Being an expert in the
various areas related to M&A, private equity and venture
capital deals, and project finance; she is closely associated
with leading family offices and HNIs. She juggles her daily
work routine between countries like South East Asia and
Europe while taking care of things in India.
The Stories from the Past
Krutika acquired her graduation and post-graduation degree
from Symbiosis International University, Pune. She
participated in national level competitions and fests of
different top tier colleges. Apart from that, she was also
involved in workshops and guest lectures from famous
personalities that visited the college. “It was a place where
academics and extracurriculars were given equal
importance,” adds Krutika. Other than that, after classes,
she used to engage herself in activities like drama, talent
shows, quizzes and organizing events while writing articles
for the college magazines.
Her professional career started with the Eastern Trade
Links, in the Finance department. There she continued her
work for two years and acquired hands-on experience
relevant to the financial know-how pertaining to the
industry. Then, she relocated to Pune in pursuit of PGDM
from Symbiosis Law School. After all these endeavors,
Krutika joined Oakcapita Advisory, as the Vice-president of
Corporate Strategy. She describes the journey as inspiring,
thrilling and yet overall learning experience to remember.
Now, she has diversified the areas of investment for the firm
while expanding its horizons into new markets, which was
not considered amongst the forte of the company before.
Spreading the Legacy
As the CFO of the company, Krutika spearheads the Indian
team along with the other Asian projects. She follows the
most important ethic: integrity while conducting business
operations across various planes. “If you don’t have
integrity then nothing else matters,” she claims. Integrity is
essential both for business as well as the individualistic
approach. Ethics is the twin of integrity. The firm follows
some norms that do not change for anyone be it a start-up or
a listed company. Apart from that, she considers honesty,
sincerity, openness to the situation and fairness which are
the prominent ethics one should undertake in daily life.
She played a major role in the businesses of the company in
India and other Asian countries. “They say some of the
deals I cracked was due to my astute mind and fierce
negotiating skills,” Krutika proclaims. She is considered as
a no-nonsense boss and a tough taskmaster. She puts in 16
to 18 hours of work daily, which makes her a
micromanager. Moreover, Krutika received an opportunity
September 2019|14
17. to be featured in the top 100
women in finance in India.
Earlier, she had a major role in
securing an award for the
company (the top 10 highly
trusted M&A consulting firms in
2018) which placed her on the
pedestal to become the CFO from
Vice-president in the company.
She advises the young generation
of entrepreneurs by conveying,
“The success totally depends on
oneself. You have to be consistent
with hard-work, and always be
willing to learn while achieving
more.”
The ‘Firm’ Belief
Oakcapita Advisory LLP is a
boutique M&AAdvisory Firm
rendering advisory services to
clients seeking in-depth strategic,
investing, and financial expertise.
From the last four years, the firm
has become a brand to be

18. Fatema AbbasGuiding Young Intellectuals towards a Successful Career
ollowing is an interview
Fbetween Insights Success and
Fatema Abbas - SoftSkill
Specialist at Pune Institute of
Business Management.
Fatema is a result driven training and
development professional with more
that 15 years of experience
significantly impacting performance
through the designing of personal
training programs for the
reformation, enhancement and
advancement of organizational and
institutional objectives, values, vision
and mission.
Herein, she shares key details of her
ceaseless voyage towards achieving
professional and personal excellence.
Below are the insights of the
interview:
1. Brief us about your journey
since the beginning of your career.
Choose a job you love and you will
never have to work a day in your life
or wait for weekends to come. I was
fortunate to understand this and
comply to it. Integrity, building
credibility and a never-give-up
attitude have been defining my career
right from the start.
I have had my share of rough
patches, and through them I have
consistently reminded myself that it's
not just what you achieve that is
important but also what you
overcome. When I look back, the
journey has been magnificent and I
see me evolved into a wiser, credible
and a more content person.
2. What was your source of
motivation? Or, who is your role
model or the person that inspires
you? Have your family played a
significant role in scripting your
success voyage?
I do not have any specific role
models, as I believe that every
individual/instance/experience we
encounter in our life holds the
capacity to teach us something good,
only if we give them a chance. Every
little thing around me motivates me
to do something grander, honorable
and prolific.
Of course, my family has completely
been my greatest strength in scripting
my success voyage. It's rightly said
that the learning happens from home,
my three kids, in their own unique
ways have been instrumental in
teaching me professional tactics and
personal mantras and they keep
doing so every day.
3. Kindly tell us about the
challenges that you faced to
withstand the complexities of the
industry.
All progress takes place outside the
comfort zone. By facing complexities
you either win or you learn and both
these outcomes are positive. To
mention a couple of complexities –
adapting classic learning/training
September 2019|16
20. framework to modern systems, incorporating blending
experiential learning as opposed to blended typical
processes, making training functions more proactive and
strategic instead of reactive, opportune to up skill and
transform the training functions.
Most of the times, I have been successful in overcoming
these. However, at times I wouldn’t be, as they would be
beyond my circle of control: at times the resistance or
budget issues or stereo type/conventional thinking or
unhealthy work politics. However dire the situation, they
have never stopped me from accepting the trails head on.
4. Apart from stirring high-end professional profile,
who is Fatema in personal life?
Fatema, is a simple human being who believes in
nurturing the soul with purity and strength. I follow
certain ethics and principles. My life theories are very
simple – 1.Don’t let anything external disrupt your
internal equilibrium, 2.You can be vulnerable or gentle
and still be very powerful and rock solid at the core,
3.The problem has never the mind, but the mindset.
5. Brief us about the industry scenario from your
perspective.
My industry is that of management education.
Management is the art of balancing business and people.
Scrupulously molding the young generation to lead and
inspire their human resources and create and sustain their
trades. The best way to edge them is through providing
them experiential learning, industry exposure, generating
curiosity in them and most importantly is leading them
through examples.
6. Enlighten us about your achievements, memorable
moments, and awards which you would cherish
lifelong.
There have been numerous cherishable moments both
personal and professional. Mentioning a couple of them
and the reason why I treasure them: 1. Won the Panache
Mrs. India Popular tittle 2018 and was crowned Sakal
Mrs. Pune in the year 2006.
My philosophy that I endorse during these titles and even
now when I am a jury to many beauty & personality
pageants is to be beautiful externally and internally. 2. I
have received the Corporate Peacock award for social
work and have been felicitated in the Delhi Parliament
for my various social work that I do. My belief that I
promote is your achievements are incomplete if they
haven't been shared or given back in some noble ways.
7. Where do you see yourself in the near future? Tell
us about your future goals.
Being a successful individual in my professional and
personal life, I see myself continuing to walk the path
that I'm already on and as years pass by I will be taking
up more opportunities and arenas wherein I hope I will
be able to continue my present success and inspire
people, especially women, to live their own lives in ways
that could bring up on a positive influence upon the
society, and our society as a whole.
8. What would you advise to the budding
entrepreneurs?
My advice to our young and dynamic millennial is to
make the traits of endurance and gratitude your close
friends. It’s okay at times to move twenty spaces
backward so that you could take a calculated great leap
forward again. It’s okay to face breakdown at times and
use this as a propeller to create your break through.
Create a mechanism to regularly introspect yourself
professionally and personally. Keep a balance of your
ambitious flight upwards and your divine journey
inwards.

22. The Inside Story of Indian
WomenYesterday, Today, & Tomorrow
September 2019|20
23. Alot has been already said, written, and even shouted out loud against the
existing double standards about the women in our Indian society. Be it a house-
wife or a professional, the Indian male-dominated society carries a ‘restricted’
version of principles for the women of India. Even though we live in the era of
technology, our society still remains in the shackles of age-old traditions, mindsets,
ancient culture, religion, and more. However, even with these adversities, few women
have stood against the storm and have made a mark by their virtue of determination.
One of the finest examples that showcase the grit of women in defying the conventional
and creating a new pathway is the growing number of business women. Not only they
are growing as a professional, but are surpassing their counterparts and getting seated as
the ‘C’ level professionals, women have already proved their mettle! (Just for the state
of records).
So how exactly do these women differ from the rest or why are there only a handful of
such personas who have managed to reach the epitome of success? While none have a
perfect answer but a major reason for this difference is ‘Education’ that has changed the
outlook of these women. However, on second thought, when we shift our attention to the
women influencers from the rural background who are indulged in various path-breaking
social activities, we understand that it’s not ONLY education.
An Outlook that Matters!
As the second largest populous country, India is a land of diverse people that includes a
mentionable contribution of women who have a progressive mindset. Not just today,
history reminds us of women who worked for the upliftment of the society or were the
torch-bearers of such transformations. Be it the ‘Bharat Stree Mahamandal’ formed in
1910 to the women of today – one common factor that has linked them is their outlook.
While the struggle for independence saw a plethora of women leaders, post-1950, there
was a steady rise of women in the country’s commercial and political affairs.
How Do We Progress?
We have travelled a long and eventful journey since our independence and especially the
last couple of decades have been outstanding in terms of rise of women’s role in the
social canvass. Be it the business domain, government jobs, entrepreneurship, women
are taking a gigantic lead that is exceptional.
This is also the time where we focus on the women living within the rural areas of our
country. The Government of India has introduced various measures and programmes for
the upliftment of women. However, its time, we as the responsible citizen of India, take
ownership and contribute towards creating a transparent, and equal opportunity platform
for everyone. It’s our responsibility and awareness that leads to creating a new pathway
to an egalitarian future. Only acknowledging or supporting the cause is not enough
anymore!
Let’s take a pledge to contribute at our level and help the nation to eradicate gender
biases from the grass root levels. Social engagements, group participations, conducting
training camps through NGO’s, aligning CSR activities towards women empowerment
can be some of the few ways ahead.

24. he relevance of teachers in
Tshaping young minds is
immeasurable. A good teacher
goes beyond textbooks, and can be
instrumental in shaping a person’s
opinion, values and much more. And
the first teacher that a child gets is its
mother who nurtures and prepares it
for the life ahead.
Ashima Obhan, Partner at Obhan &
Associates believes that her mother is
precisely: her first teacher, a superhero,
and her role model. She has seen her
hold a full-time job with a national
bank, pursue an MBA while working,
bring up three children, manage the
house, and take care of her
grandparents; all of this, with a lot of
love and no complaints. Amazed at all
that her mother has achieved, Ashima
says, “If I could do even half of what
she has managed to achieve, I think I
would have accomplished a lot in life.”
The second set of influencers Ashima
met in her journey were her teachers at
Lady Shri Ram College, where she
majored in English. In three years she
learned about the value of independent
thinking, critical analysis, a
questioning mind, never to take
anything for granted, and to keep
pushing boundaries. These valuable
lessons came in handy when she chose
to pursue Law as a subject and as a
career.
Changing the Status Quo
Ashima sums up her professional
journey as exciting and deeply
enriching – at times more exciting than
she could handle. From starting her
career with one of India’s leading law
firms to now heading the corporate law
practice at her firm, her journey has
been full of learning. Working with a
leading Indian law firm for almost 8
years got her unmatched experience in
terms of time. But over time, she found
the work getting less and less
challenging. In search of new
opportunities and intellectual
challenges, she decided to quit a well-
paying and secure career, and establish
her corporate law practice. Starting as
a lone ranger, she set some initial goals
for herself, which she now is very
proud to say that she has achieved.
Obhan – The Firm, Her Pride
Obhan & Associates offers end-to-end
services in the fields of Intellectual
Property law and Corporate law
intending to aid and assist its clients at
every stage. Recognized as one of
India’s leading firms, it was conceived
to address the critical requirement of a
specialized team that intimately
understands the working of the Indian
legal system and is technically
qualified and competent in
understanding and appreciating the
clients’ requirements. It provides
dedicated and customized attention to
each client ensuring their business
needs are met.
As a Partner of the firm, Ashima has
been single-handedly responsible for
establishing the corporate law and
M&A practice within the firm. Until
she joined, the firm operated as a
boutique intellectual property (IP) firm.
Over the years, within the corporate
team, it has curated specialized
practices for the Publishing and
Technology, Media and Telecom

developing an Arbitration practice

was ranked in 2018 as the ‘Best Indian

Building Work Culture on Deep-

The firm strongly believes in the
principles of diversity and inclusion.
All members of the firm are assured
the flexibility and support that they
need to ensure a healthy work-life
balance. Ashima adds, “The sanctity of
the letterhead – that is foremost on my
mind while working. I constantly
remind myself and my team that the
quality of work delivered by us must be
of the highest standard. We also believe
very strongly in trust, collaboration
and teamwork. All of these are a strong
part of the work culture at Obhan &

She envisions the firm to be recognized
as one of the leading firms of the
country for its specialized services and
its unique client management services.
The team comprises an extremely
talented and experienced set of lawyers

who are very well equipped to serve

Words That Matter
For Budding Entrepreneurs:
“Be fearless but be conscientious. Do
not compromise on quality at any cost.
Maintaining a good reputation and
keeping your client’s faith is key to a

For the Women Trying to Make a
Difference:
“It is very encouraging to see the
growth in women taking charge in the
business world. Women in different
industries are not just breaking the
glass ceiling, but in many cases,
shattering them! Women have always
been leaders, but lack the support and
opportunity to continue and excel in

nonetheless.”

which is result-oriented and suggest all to do the same.
Could you please share your noted milestones,
accomplishments throughout your journey so far along

Our company, initially, was not practicing Digital

department, our company’s Digital Division has grown to
be 7-member team. Last year was a boost for me when we
took clients for our Digital Services. Now, we have over 4
clients who have added a good amount of percentage to the
company profits. There have been a lot of ups and downs in
my journey but I have always stood up and people at
Honeycomb have always had my back, which explains my
loyalty towards them. Overall, there have been a lot of
achievements and it would be very difficult to choose one
that does justice to all.

requirements of each customer. We serve all our customers
with utmost dedication and start off with a rapport-building
approach. Also, we believe in assisting customers and
clients with after-sales support as well.
Please share the most memorable and remarkable
moment of your life.
Though there are quite a few, but naming and pointing out
one would be very difficult. And my whole experience
especially in Honeycomb, has been an empowering one.
But I remember this one day, so clearly, when I, as the sole
Digital Marketing person, was given the opportunity and
responsibility to be able to build my own team and capture
clients for Search Engine Optimization and Social Media
Marketing. That was the moment, I felt like I had achieved
something and that I am capable of that, and more.
Where do you see yourself and the company in future?
Or, what is your goal to mark the uniqueness in future?
I wish to continue working for this company and someday.
own and manage a sister concern company (from the same
firm) in association with Honeycomb. I see it growing, my
goals and Honeycomb's goals also align. The company and
I believe in hustling and aligning, working for the growth
but also taking time to breathe. My top career goal, as I
mentioned, is owning and completely managing my own
sister concern company and for that, my ideal path would
include giving my best and doing justice to my work,
pushing my limits and facing challenges with my head held
high.
Advise for the budding women in tech who are trying to
embark in the same field.
Hustle and align. Work hard, play harder. Find balance
between working and chilling. Embrace the concept that
rest, recovery, and reflection are essential parts of the
progress towards a successful and ultimately happy life. Be
proactive and clear in your decisions, take time but when
you are done, it should be in perfect sync to what the brief
was.
What is the one thing that is acting as your motivational
tool? Or, who is your role model and how the person
inspires and motivates you?
My constant source of motivation and positive influence
would be Mr. Noufel and Rajiv Talreja. Noufel, is my
mentor, guide and an entrepreneur himself and Rajiv
Talreja, is an author, business coach and entrepreneur. And
they have always guided me to a path of success. I have
also done the P.A.C.E program by Rajiv Talreja and he has
been an inspiration ever since.
Share your views on the current technology-enabled
business scenario in India.
In this digital age, everything can be taken as a boon or a
bane but for me, this technology-enabled business scenario
has come as a miracle. It has inspired me and more
importantly, it has led me to this path of Digital Marketing.
Interview with Insights Success
September 2019| 27
30. n this edition, we introduce our
Ireaders to one such persona –
Geeta Arya – noted Architect and
interior designer and Founder of Geeta
Arya and Associates. The firm crafts
exclusive designs that blends art and
architecture, light and shadow, texture
and colour to add value to the project
by creating an ambience that projects
the image of the client. It create spaces
considering functionality & form to
achieve aesthetics to satisfy the
requirement of the project. The design
integrates the cutting edge technology
with discreet use of eco-friendly
materials. Geeta Arya talks more about
the journey and the exclusive services
of the company.
Kindly brief us about yourself, your
initial journey since the beginning of
your career?
Myself an Architect and interior
designer by profession having a strong
passion about connecting different
creative ends of society in form of Art
curator.
It's been 15 years that I've been in the
field of designing. The journey so far
has been amazing. My family was very
supportive. I have studied in School of
Planning and Architecture New Delhi.
After my graduation I worked with lot
of big names like Hafiz contracter,
Prem nath and Associates and SOM
but after marriage I started my own
studio. fortunately my in-law's were
also very supportive and never said no
for my career ambitions.
What drives you every day to work?
Or what is your motivation which
pushes you to enhance your
performance?
More than a livelihood earning
profession, designing is something I
feel, is the flesh and blood of my life.
Since my childhood itself, I was more
than sure that I wanted to be creator, a
creator of beautiful spaces.
When your simple moves are
converting your environment into such
meaningful outcome it gives immense
motivation to perform again.
How does your family contribute to
your success? Talk about your family
values, the culture which has
strongly impacted your professional
journey?
When I think back, my father was an
engineer so One of the favorite time
spent for us was making toy scale
models of aircraft or maniquins with
wood, metal sheets along my father
and siblings. When I started to plan my
career, I think those experiences were
at the back of my mind. Even though
my mother didn’t pursue her carrier
after marriage but she gave us that
confidence-“to be whatever we wanted
to be”. That was an incredibly
formative experience in my youth.
Without any second thoughts, my
husband. He has also been a mentor
and a great guide. He is the one who
saw my potential in the field of
designing and he not only motivated
me to take the bold step in the field of
entrepreneurship but also inculcated in
me the wisdom to continue in the
professional world. I entered into this
field at the young age and today, after
fifteen years of that, I can proudly say
that I owe all my success to him for I
have never felt alone in my journey so
far and have always found him by side,
be it a success to celebrate or a
challenge to look at. Without his belief
in my talent and his constant
encouragement, I could not have
reached the place I am in today.
Please mention the challenges, issues
you have faced in your professional
journey and your efforts or solutions
you have identified to overcome the
challenges.
Nothing is easy for a complacent
person and nothing is tough for a
hardworking one. The moment one
decides to take things in control and
become an entrepreneur, that very
moment, the word ‘difficulty’ is
replaced by the word ‘opportunity’ in a
person’s life. Being an entrepreneur is
what completes me and this feeling of
self contentment is the best I could
have asked from life. Though being a
self made person ensures a lot of hard
work, perseverance and strength,
leaving you with very less time to
enjoy the luxuries of life but you don't
feel left out because the gratification
you feel after every day’s work is more
overwhelming than those little raptures
of life. So personally, I don’t think it is
Blending Art, Architecture, and Technology
September 2019|28
32. difficult to be a woman entrepreneur as
it you yourself who enjoys this
experience of being a self made person
after all.
Apart from stirring such a high-end
profile, who is Geeta Arya on the
personal front?
No matter how professionally
successful you are by end of the day as
a women you are responsible for each
and every aspect of family.
I believe in giving my hundred percent
to everything role I take on, so be it the
role of an entrepreneur or that of a
housewife, I never find myself at cross
roads. You are multi faceted in
different aspects of your being, so why
not utilize it for creating a complete
harmony in your life. For such kind of
a balance, it is very important to have
complete clarity in your own mind
about priorities at different point of
times and it is also about loving your
life in every character. For example,
when I am at home, I just love looking
after my family, my house and I enjoy
my role of a home maker, while, the
moment I step into my car for a
business meeting, I am a strong
entrepreneur and nothing else. I love
both my roles and hence I am able to
strike the right chord of balance midst
my personal and professional life.
Kindly describe in detail about
Geeta Arya and Associates and its
unique services and products.
Geeta Arya and Associates is branched
in two companies Geeta Vaibhav
design studio Pvt Ltd. -purely
architecture and Interior consultancy
firm and Ishwatham- Designer
furnishing and Art work.
Ishwatham brand has focused on the
‘Make in India’ ideology since its
inception in 2008. It is part of Prime
minister Narendra modi’s campaign for
make in India by creating an
“Enchanted India” look through the
lens of art in the contemporary. Now
instead of sourcing art work from
Milan, Venice or China with the help
of talented Indian artists we are
splashing colours and luxury of details
within India. We have a team of
talented artist from different parts of
country for hand crafted Murals, metal
art, canvas paintings etc. We are now
known for bridging the gap between
craft and luxury. We are vastly inspired
by our roots, traditions, culture, and
our history. We take in all the
influences around us for our visuals
from historical references and put it all
together on a mood board which are set
onto our products. It just complements
all our Architectural sites into piece of
Art.
Brief us about the industry scenario
from your perspective.
Designers and Architects are basically
conceptualisers- they can visualize the
whole quite clearly in their mind s eye,
much before the first brick is placed.
Personal skills come in when they have
the talent to be able to seamlessly
blend together many disparate
elements. This is where intuition, an
educated eye and experience come into
play. For this creative Industry Sky is a
limit.
What would you advise to the
budding entrepreneurs?
I would say that... you have to keep
working hard and hard work is the key
to success. There is no excuse for it.
And the most important thing is, they
need to be dedicated and focused. They
need to have a goal to achieve.
Share with us the noted milestones,
accomplishments of your journey
along with highlighting the
company’s achievements under your
leadership.
Sure. I worked in a number of offices
before started my venture. I got a
wonderful exposure of working for a
planetaurium over volcano Roden
crator at Arizona. Redesigned Haryana
Vidhan Sabha with Prem Nath ji .I did
a variety of projects: shopping malls,
hospitals, schools, university,
Naturopathy centers and some
commercial work. I gained diverse
experiences, but now I’m more
focused. We are into creating luxury
either by Architecture and Interiors or
Furnishings.
State your passions, aims, and goals.
Enjoying your job is really important.
It’s great for you and great for the
people around you. In the end, even
our clients and consultants are happier
if they enjoy what they are doing. I just
want to see Joy in the eyes of our
designers, Artists, sculptures and most
important our clients.
How are you foreseeing the future in
terms of expansion of your business,
the advent of new technologies and
increasing tech-enabled players in
the market?
From my perspective, the most
important thing is empowering people
around. Also, I’m very interested in
being part of the design and technical
development. I also find that with these
projects, you really need to know
what’s going on. But at the same time,
you really need to trust the people on
your team. My goal has been to learn
to work with the senior designers and
the senior technical people, and also to
engage the members on our team as
much as possible — to fully
understand what we are doing, why,
and what the client's goals are. I am a
very hands-on, detailed person, but my
goal is to optimize my trust in the team
and to create strong collaborative
relationships — with our team, our
consultants, and most importantly, with
our clients.

RokaniDestined to be an Entrepreneur
‘‘When I formally signed my first client contract in
Beyond Sourcing – it was a very special
moment mixed with the excitement of a new
beginning, the joy of finally cracking a contract
and the fear of ensuring that I have to get it right
‘‘
For a women entrepreneur, the long
journey to her goal begins with a hurdle
right close to her heart - her family. The
society, even in today’s world takes time to
digest the fact that a woman can be ambitious
and would love to explore and chart her
professional path. Once they are done
convincing their family, the world seems a tiny
spec to conquer. Niyati Rokani had the
ambition, the fire, and a goal to achieve a huge
success. But above all, she had her sister, a
blessing, who fought the battle to convince their
entire extended family in accepting that a

35. oman can also have a
wcareer. That was half the
battle won. The journey
from that day to the present when she
leads her own firm – Beyond
Sourcing; has been ‘fantabulous’, as
she sums up.
Realizing Her Own Potential
Niyati started her career as a trainee in
a very small private firm. Being
inclined towards learning, she quickly
imbibed all the tricks in a short span of
time. She thus got to learn about the
various aspects of recruitment, a field
which had her full attention by now.
She knew it was her calling because, as
she recalls, “Seeing the delight on the
candidates’face when they received the
job gave me happiness and that’s when
I knew this is what I want to do!”
She continued working for a few more
companies and mastered the art of not
only recruitment but also networking.
But, something was missing – always.
That's when the seed of opening a
boutique company that specializes in
real estate hiring was planted and
resulted in Beyond sourcing – over five
years now and going strong.
Building the Firm – Talent-by-Talent
Beyond Sourcing are a specialist
search firm focused on the acquisition
of talent at the executive and
management board levels in Real
Estate, Retail Realty, and Infrastructure
domains. It is a boutique search
consultancy firm that specializes in
mapping the right candidate for the
said position. It believes in mapping
the talent pool through its strong
business network and industry
connections rather than resume
databases. It takes up specific
assignments and works on them as
exclusive mandates. Services that it
offers include -Senior Executive
Search, Mid Management Recruitment,
Volume Hiring, and Strategic Talent
Mapping Assignments.
Beyond Sourcing, in a very short span
of time, has made its place in this cut
throat competitive hiring space of real
estate industry and takes pride to have
a women entrepreneur who has been
successful in managing complex
projects with ease. Niyati reminisces,
“I faced a lot of challenges initially
and was advised that your work is
good but you are too young to be given
the responsibility of building a whole
new team. I cracked my first deal with
someone I had worked with, in one of
my previous companies and who had
trust in my abilities – after that there
was no looking back for us.”
Now Beyond sourcing get clients by
references. Those who have heard
about its work and would like to be
associated with the firm. Niyati
believes, as a company, the journey has
just started – it has a long way to go.
Currently, it is discussing the strategic
direction of the company and is
looking for diversifying its clientele in
the next three years.
Pushing the Limits
The most daring challenge the firm
took was limiting itself to hiring for
only the real estate industry. Niyati
explains, “Once you limit yourself to
hiring for one particular industry, the
overall risk increases as if the industry
goes through a rough time your entire
business is affected. However, the
outcomes of the same have been
extremely good as we have managed to
create a name for ourselves in the
industry and work with most of the top
brands in the real estate sector.”
A business principle that she actually
puts to practice is something that her
father taught her “Your work should
always speak for you”. As a result, the
highest standard of quality maintained
by Beyond Sourcing keeps its clients
happy and contended. Though the
working hours are 9-5, the clients can
contact the firm 24/7 which makes it
easier for the two to work. The firm
also gives immense importance to
work life balance, as it is imperative
for long-term sustainability.
Apart from family, Niyati’s role model
is Jack Ma. She says, “His attitude
towards considering competitors as
friends and learning from them makes
him stand out in the industry. He also
considers ‘giving up’as the actual
failure which drives me not to stop and
make my failures as the stepping-stone
to success.”
A Word for the Newbies
Niyati, an established entrepreneur
now, has the following advice for all
budding future entrepreneurs:
"Networking and empathy are crucial
but have to be backed with hard work,
dedication and timely deliverance to
grow in this business. Remember, there
is never a right time, there will always
be ups and downs, the journey might
be hard but it’s not impossible. If you
have dreamed it – do it! The future is
waiting for the Entrepreneur in you”
Miles to Go
Niyati believes that Indian women are
now finally being acknowledged,
appreciated and admired for their new
roles as entrepreneurs. The number of
women entrepreneurs in India has been
on a rise, and their success stories
continue to inspire and motivate
millions more. Niyati’s speciality lies
in the real estate industry but she has
started diversifying into another
industry and looks forward to working
more on it. Few years down the line,
she foresees expanding her team to
meet the demands of the growing
business and requirements from
clients. She also wants to increase the
services provided to the clients and
turn Beyond Sourcing into a one-shop
stop solution for them.

36. Triveni
Kathuripally
Leveraging the Technological Revolution
Following is an interview between
Insights Success and Triveni
Kathuripally, the Co-founder of
MIRAKI TECHNOLOGIES. With a
career spanning over more than five
years, Triveni has held multiple roles
including Project Management, Business
Development and Finance Roles.
Herein, she shares key details of her
ceaseless voyage towards achieving
professional and personal excellence.
Below are the insights of the interview.
Kindly brief us about your
professional journey and what kind of
ethics, principles and manner of
working you observe while managing
the business operations?
It all started back in 2015, when i had
taken a break from my job at Deloitte. I
always wanted to do something on my
own. The passion to become an
entrepreneur started early in my
graduation days. I used to look up to
people like Indra Nooyi, Kiran
Mazumdar Shaw and wanted to be like
them.
IT services was one of the potential
options that I had. In India, the internet
usage was under 20% when I got this
idea. I have seen huge potential in the
area of Web and Mobile App
development. With 80% more

there is no better platform than Web and Mobile
development.
Eventually conceptualizing on setting up a business
happened along with another Co-founder Sriharsha
Sriramoju, who happens to take care of the IT projects and
where I manage the Finance and Business Operations.
Talking about ethics, principles and manners of working
then it has to be “Employee Friendly” and while dealing
with clients it has got to be “Client friendly” and of course
within the minimum ethical rules and then work on your
goal very firmly steadily and with complete dedication.
Please tell us about the business model you follow and
the services you provide that makes the brand unique in
the mid of cut throat competition.
Miraki is now focusing on SaaS and AI based products.
More so, unlike small scale startups, Miraki has deployed
its own R&D team that actively looks into the market pain-
points and evaluates the solutions that may do great in the
market to solve business problems. Accordingly, Miraki is
looking forward to launching an AI based product come
spring next year. More so, digital marketing will be a key
focus area for Miraki given the tremendous potential that
the internet has in the present generation. With internet as
the medium, every product can dream of a worldwide
recognition and Miraki is working towards enhancing and
uplifting the digital marketing arm in the years to come.
The firm’s professional’s skills pushes clients’ businesses in
the right direction and engages with the right audience.
Miraki stays updated with the new trends that allows for
great user experiences. Target is set to get highly relevant
traffic to the client’s website in order to help increase the
ranking page on SERP (Search Engine Result Page).
With such future ready technologies and ideas
onboard, Miraki has served and will continue to
serve clients from US, UK, Canada, Malaysia,
Mexico, and across India. A promising future ahead
of Miraki and the entire IT industry is in for
surprises.
Share with us the noted milestones, accomplishments of
your journey along with highlighting the company’s
achievements under your leadership.
We have started with very small projects, initially it was
just two co founders and one employee working on the
project. We have gone to people to explain our company
and then convince them with technical know-how to offer
September 2019| 35
Interview with Insights Success
38. us a project by inducing trust in them for the company. It
was definitely not an easy journey. But then today we have
grown to a stage where people choose us to give the
projects based on the credibility of the company. I must say
all this had happened in a very short span of 3.5 years.
Leadership is not really implemented in its literal meaning
here.. the success mantra here is one has to get into
employee/client shoes to understand them and make them
work accordingly.
What is the one thing that acts as your motivational
tool? Or, who is your role model, and how does the
person inspire and motivate you?
During an event, I have heard a speaker talking about
‘Share a smile’. This has really influenced me. Imagine a
world where a smile is shared. I thought the company we
have setup, if I can bring smiles on few faces that’s more
than enough.
Today, I see that smile on all our employees and the clients
we work with. That motivates to work better every day.
There are many role models for me. It will be tough to pick
one. Whatever you do, at the end of the day you are a
human being. You might not help everyone but at least do
what you can for this society through any channel.
Kindly tell us about the challenges you faced while
withstanding the complexities of the industry.
With the internet bubble, the social world shifted from a
place of interpersonal connections to internet connections.
So did the world of business. Our digitally-driven lifestyle
has given us little choice but to adapt to technology. It’s a
no-brainer; website development is now essential to every
business person. Pertaining to this, Miraki offers creative
and extensive web development services to the clients.
Miraki is driven by the objective to provide fresh and
unique designs. With our professional team, a business can
receive a catchy website for the long run.
Challenges faced by Miraki Technologies mainly
revolves around client satisfaction and clarity.
Unlike other service of an IT infrastructure, most
customers do not really comprehend their objective
with regards to the look and feel of the website.
Therefore, while conveying them, the ideas often get
lost in translation. However, Miraki has overcome
this challenge through its exceptional understanding
of UI/UX market demands.
Share with us the most memorable and
remarkable moments of your life.
Obviously, the first project that we have got was the most
memorable moment. But each project that we get gives us
lot of hope and trust for the future. Today we have nearly
200+ Clients across India, US, Europe, Australia and
Canada. Each and every project we get is a memorable
moment.
Where do you see yourself and the company in future?
We do not want to end up as a typical software services
company. We have started working on our own products
along with the client services we provide. We have
dedicated R&D team to work on next generation products.
Our goal is to be the single platform for any company for
their web requirements (Software, Mobile or Digital
Marketing). We want to be a one stop solution for them.

40. Sonam Madaan
IS: Kindly brief us about your professional journey?
Sonam: Well My journey has been a real fun since I started
my career via Campus Placement in HCL Bserv as
Technical Support Officer in 2010. This experience has
added a great advantage to my profile..Then moving on I
got an opportunity from a Mumbai based Software
Development Company ,Though I applied there for Support
Team but fortunately they found me a good fit for Business
Development. Further considering Business Development
as a core forte ,I got an opportunity in a Product based firm
i.e HRizzus – A B2B recruitment portal. Gained a lot of
exposure in meeting CXO level HR professionals …Being
there for a petty good tenure I wondered that I got my core
Skills i.e BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT. No one might
have given a thought that my core skills would change to
TALENT ACQUISITION soon. Then I joined Xicom
Technologies in Nov 2013 into Business Development.
The New-Age Professional
Being in Sales for a good tenure I decided to move on to a
more stable profile, Fortunately my mentors witnessed my
social hunting experience and that's how my organization
has offered me a role in Talent Acquisition team. Since then
I'm associated with Xicom. Long time!!!
IS: Kindly talk about the most memorable moments
along with the challenges you have been through?
Sonam: Don’t know about others but I’m pretty used to
accept challenges since my College Days. May be that's
why Life keeps on shattering challenges on me to continue
to make me a best version of MINE. I love to interact with
Children ,To teach them so I took upon Teaching as a
profession while I was in College. I used to provide home
tuitions and fortunately I started earning so as to repay my
Educational Loan. That was the BIGGEST CHALLENGE I
ever faced.
Moving ahead in Professional life I eventually came across
so many challenges but life always keep on motivating me
to look ahead. Talking about Moments-Yes I have got so
many beautiful moments to cherish through out my career
so far. One of the remarkable moment which I can recall
right now is that when I over achieved my Sales target for
the first time and got a Rs 5000/-cash reward Incentive.
IS: What kind of ethics, principles and manner of
working do you observe while working in the HR
domain?
Sonam: Its been 5 years now I have been in HR Domain
but Look at the Irony side !! Technically I'm not MBA so I
haven't studied anything theoretically. Its just that I have
applied everything directly. But I must say being a Business
Developer in past that I can easily empathize the situations.
As far as my ethics /Principles are concerned I believe in
following a simple friendly approach. I try to source my
candidates via various social media channels ; Internal
referrals so the primary ethic that need to be follow is
–FRIENDLY APPROACH. Relationship building is the key
to get success in any field or domain.
Secondly –I always EMPATHIZE with the candidates I’m
connected to.
Thirdly – I always encourage TRANSPARENT
COMMUNICATION .
September 2019|38
41. IS: Kindly talk about your acumen
in the areas of Business Development
and Talent Acquisition?
Sonam:For me these two profiles are
quite similar via different perspective :-
Business Development –Art of Selling
Products /Services to acquire Clients.
Talent Acquisition –Art of selling
company’s USP to acquire the best
talent around.
Undoubtedly, both the profiles require
extempore quality. We need to
simultaneously make quicky and tricky
decisions either while talking to a
client or a Candidate. Else we gonna
loose a business equation.
IS: How has HR domain
transformed over the years?
Sonam: Indeed HR Domain has
transformed a lot over the years.
Earlier recruiters were only known for
making cold calling on the data fetched
by portals. But now it has been evolved
to a huge dramatic profile. Gone are
the days when recruiters were solely
dependent on job portals. Now-a-days
Recruiters has to act like a
MARKETER.
They have to involve into
EMPLOYER BRANDING. With the
passage of time Recruiters have
understand that PASSIVE candidates
are not available on Job portals. They
have to change their working style in
order to target the creamy candidates
available in market. And that’s how
MODERN RECRUITMENT has
replaced TRADITIONAL Recruitment.
IS: Please brief us about the HR
practices and services you follow in
your organization.
Sonam: We follow the MODERN
RECRUITMENT Practices here. I’m
being involved into Employer
Branding ,To create a Great pool of
Talent Pipeline. Relationship Building
with the Employees /Candidates.
IS: Your Role model.
Sonam: Well, I consider a person my
“ROLE MODEL” in life not because
he is a celeb or a famous
personality. He is just another common
man like you and me. There is a
concrete reason behind why I call him
My Role Model, because I have
witnessed him during his success
journey. I’m very much influenced by
one of his rarest quality i.e STRONG
DETERMINATION and therefore
what I perform or achieve its just
because One day I wanna make him
proud of me. To conclude with -I
wanna follow his footprints.
IS: Biggest challenge you face in
your professional life.
Sonam: Well as you know that I’m
associated with an IT organization i.e
XICOM TECHNOLOGIES as a
Assistant Manager - Talent
Acquisition. So there are various day
to day challenges that I come across
but would like to highlight a major
one:-
Difficulty in balancing the speed of
hire with quality of hire :-
This is one of the biggest challenges
when it comes to balancing the SPEED
OF HIRE with QUALITY OF HIRE.
Although we want to recruit a
candidate as soon as possible, there is
always an urge to get the best talent
possible which usually takes time.
Increasing the recruitment speed is
perhaps one of the hardest tasks these
days.
IS: Kindly introduce us to your
Company.
Sonam: Xicom is an established
Software development company with
an enviable & proven track-record
engaged in providing application
development services, technology
consulting and IT outsourcing
solutions to clients worldwide.

We provides a broad range of
following Development Services:-
-Web Development

IS: How do you define Passion?
Sonam: There is a famous quote -
Working Hard for something we don’t
care is called “STRESS” On the
contrary -Working Hard for something
we love is called “PASSION”
So this is completely in syn with my
JOB. I’m a People Person. Love to
interact. Keen to develop relations and
always remain curious to think beyond
the box. This is what I’m doing
regularly at my workplace and that's
how it always keeps on motivating me
to look forward to new challenges with
a smile.
IS: Share your views on the current
HR business scenario in India.
