vaccine shot to 18 million people!
Those aged 65 and up, as well as those with comorbidities, will receive the booster dose.
A health ministry official said on Tuesday that France plans to give a third dose of the
COVID-19 vaccination to 18 million individuals by early 2022.
"Appointments for those who are qualified for a booster shot have been available since
Monday of this week." As some studies show, we consider this as a genuine health
imperative to expand protection," the official said. "We're talking about about 18 million
people who are eligible for a third dose right now."
We aim to see 12.4 million people get this booster shot by the end of the year, and the
rest by the start of next year."
As of August 30, over 72 percent of the French population has received one dosage of
the COVID-19 vaccination, according to government data. After being diagnosed with
COVID-19, a little more than 65 percent had received two or one dose.

2. There is no agreement among scientists and government authorities about whether a
third dose is required.
Tedros Ghebreyesus, the director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO), said
last week that data on third shots was inconclusive. He earlier stated that they should be
stopped and that authorities should concentrate on distributing doses to poorer
countries.
On Monday, however, WHO Europe Director Hans Kluge appeared to be more optimistic
than previous WHO evaluations, suggesting that booster doses were a method to keep
the most susceptible safe.
In France, a fourth wave of COVID-19 infections is waning, but the government is
treading carefully as schools prepare to resume following the summer break.
Vaccinations have picked up in recent months, and people now need a health pass, or
proof of vaccination, to gain access to restaurants, bars, museums and sports venues.
