The number of at-risk youth in children and family services care is staggering. Programs and facilities within juvenile justice, foster care, psychiatric care, and residential care have a tremendous responsibility for these youth, yet lack cutting-edge tools to simplify data collection, standardize reporting and monitor outcomes to gain actionable insights.
To help improve youth care organizations facing these challenges, Qualtrics---provider of the world’s leading research and insights platform---has partnered with Multi-Dimensional Education Inc. (MDed) to offer the Multi-Dimensional Youth Assessment 360 (MDYA 360).
Today’s webinar dives deeper into the issues these facilities face and, more importantly, how the MDYA 360 can address them. Key topics include:
Challenges within the At-Risk Youth Sector
Overview of the MDYA 360 Methodology and Solution
Preview of the MDYA 360 and Reporting

12. Why the MDYA 360 was developed
• The stats
• Pressure on providers
• Demands of the system
• Lack of comprehensive tools
13. Why MDYA 360: The Stats
Over 20% of America’s youth have a diagnosable
mental illness; 14.7 million youth
14. Why MDYA 360: The Stats
Over 20% of America’s youth have a diagnosable

mental illness; 14.7 million youth
41% increase in psychiatric hospitalization of teens
from 1996 – 2007
Many youth first enter the system through psychiatric
hospitalization.

23. Why MDYA 360: Pressure on Providers
Major State and Federal
Level Legislation is being
passed…
to “Reform” and “Overhaul” existing
monitoring efforts, and apply more
“Scrutiny” to assessing the quality of
care being provided (program
effectiveness) as well as the outcomes
at-risk youth are experiencing.
24. Why MDYA 360: Demands of System
Funding Sources (e.g., Insurance companies, Medicaid)

Families & Private Donors want Proof of Effectiveness

28. Why MDYA 360: Lack of Tools
No system currently exists in the at-risk youth sector which
collects the wide array of outcomes truly needed to guide
improvement efforts as well as document accountability and
compliance demands
29. Why MDYA 360: Lack of Tools
No system currently exists in the at-risk youth sector which
collects the wide array of outcomes truly needed to guide
improvement efforts as well as document accountability and
compliance demands
No measurement exists to identify how the youth are doing
psychologically, behaviorally, and emotionally

No system currently exists in the at-risk youth sector which
collects the wide array of outcomes truly needed to guide
improvement efforts as well as document accountability and
compliance demands
No measurement exists to identify how the youth are doing

While also providing an Organizational 360 Degree Assessment
of the treatment environment!
And the few assessments that do exist lack the technology to
power such efforts in Real-Time!

36. MDYA 360: Focus - Agency or Facility
• Now imagine running an agency or facility serving
100+ youth and parents or guardians with 30+
staff…Or you’re a case manager who oversees
foster homes…
• The MDYA360 helps you see how groups of
youth, or all stakeholders, are perceiving the
organizational efforts, but it can also document
how individual youth are being cared for within a
temporary order of custody such as a foster
home.
• This level of analysis will further enhance your
ability to identified and guide the strengths &
challenges across your program for optimal use
of your resources.
37. Not only can you monitor…
• Individual Youth Performance
You can also evaluate…
• Single Facility, Foster Home and
Agency Outcomes
• Compare Multiple Agency Outcomes
• Monitor data collection efficiency of
your staff (e.g. case workers or probation
officers)
MDYA 360: Focus – System and State
A Consistent Standardized Approach to
Collecting and Connecting Assessment
Across Systems of Care!
40. MDYA 360: Process - Psychometrics
• The MDYA Dimensions and Variables measured:
a) Assess Predictive Factors of Success and/or
b) Accountability or Compliance Needs.
• The scales under each dimension are not one item,
or one question measurements.
• Each scale consists of multiple questions (4-20 items),
with each measuring components or factors connected to
research on the scale’s variable… creating a “Dimensional Index”.
• The Scales were Developed through MDed’s Federal Grant Evaluation
Efforts on Youth Behavior and Research, thus Providing Established…
– Reliability - They measure the same thing consistently over and over.
– Validity - They actually measure what they say the measure.

MDYA to do a 360 Degree Organizational Assessment
Assess a random sample of youth, parents and staff in a
facility with the MDYA periodically to keep a pulse on
continuous improvement efforts
Use the MDYA360 to monitor Emergency Cases

44. • Everyone is operating with a tight budget.
• Yet many at-risk youth have contact with multiple agencies.
• By adopting the MDYA360 for use across your systems of care, all within your at-risk
youth sectors gain access to a standardized and comprehensive data-system.

MDYA 360: Benefits- Connect Systems
45. MDYA 360: Benefits
• Proposed legislation requires more elaborate data collection
across the systems of care.
• The MDYA360 was designed with these expectations in
mind, keeping States or Agencies one step ahead.
• Using the MDYA360 will help you
– Collect and connect the required data,
– Offer valuable insights to guide your continuous
improvement efforts.
46. MDYA 360: Benefits – 3 Views > 1
• The MDYA collects the same

I’m Dr. Robert Foltz. I am the Director of Child Welfare Evaluation for Multi-Dimensional Education Inc. I am also a psychologist and an Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. I teach courses related to psychopathology, pediatric psychopharmacology, adolescent development, and professional issues & ethics. I also have a private practice in the Chicago area where I focus mainly on serving youth, many struggling with severe challenges or suffering from trauma related issues. Prior to becoming a professor, I spent over 15 years working in residential treatment settings as a clinician and administrator. I also am on the board of directors for the American Association of Children’s Residential Centers, and serve on several committees for the state of Illinois overseeing _____________________________________________. I have the battle scars, and grey hair unfortunately, to support the fact that I know all too well what many of you go through on a day to day basis. And I can’t wait to share with you what we have planned for this webinar today.
Tableau Questions:
Suppose I want to bring in additional data, like population data. Can I do that as well within Tableau.
Can I create those maps with Tableau or do I have to import them.
Qualtrics Questions:
How do I get the connector enabled on my account?
Can I use a survey library from another organization?
