SUICIDE
Suicide is the act
of killing
yourself, most
often as a result
of depression or
other mental
illness.
Terms “committed
suicide”, “completed
suicide” and “successful
suicide” are not
considered unacceptable;
preferred terms are “death
by suicide” or "died by
suicide"
•Suicides among young
people continue to be a
serious problem.
• Suicide is the second
leading cause of death
for children, adolescents
and young adults age
15-to-24-year-
olds.(WHO)

SUICIDE IDEATION
Suicidal ideation is
defined as thoughts,
ideas, and the desire to
commit suicide, being a
frequent behavior among
adolescents and
characterized as a
personality disorder or
with the character of
emotional blackmail.
CONTINUED……
Adolescent suicide
attempts may be
associated with feelings
of stress, self-doubt,
pressure to succeed,
financial uncertainty,
disappointment, and
loss.
ACCORDING TO DURKHEIM
Suicide is not an individual act
nor a personal action. It is
caused by some power which
is over and above the
individual or super individual
.“All classes of deaths
resulting directly or indirectly
from the positive or negative
acts of the victim itself who
knows the result they
produce”
ACCORDING TO DURKHEIM TYPES OF SUICIDE
Emile Durkheim
classified different
types of suicides on
the basis of
different types of
relationship
between the actor
and his society.
(1) Egoistic suicide
(2) Altruistic suicide
(3) Anomic suicide
(4) Fatalistic suicide
