4. Materials Required
A Cardboard sheet.
Coloring materials: Water colour or
Permanent Marker or Crayon, etc.
Writing or drawing materials:
Pencil, biro, felt pen, erase,
sharpener etc.
It is preferable that the student
draw the content themselves.
5. Definition of Instructional Charts
They are simple instructional materials
that teachers use to pass across
information to learners through
images.
An educational tool seen as a
visual method of teaching where
images are placed on a cardboard
or paper.
7. Important Uses of Instructional Charts
Teaching with charts or diagrams help
reinforce information that students are
learning or have already learned.
Charts and diagrams enable students to
see ideas visually laid out in an
organized way.
Charts can help the students process
content and to make connections more
easily.
8. Constructing a Chart (Task 2)
Instructions
Choose a topic in your teaching subject
area.
Construct a simple chart that contains a
picture or graphics to teach that
concept.
Materials needed: A cardboard sheet,
pencil, ruler, colouring materials e.g.
Permanent marker.
9. Guidelines on completing class
work
Always construct a Borderline
Use Grid Lettering to write the Title of
the topic either above(preferable) or
below the cardboard sheet
Make your images with pencil at first so
you can correct errors
Write your labels with appropriate
Freehand lettering
Apply colours as appropriate
10. Precautions
Write your name and matric number at
the back of the cardboard
The image or content should be more
noticeable on the cardboard
Be conscious of colour contrast. Avoid
Blue marker on a blue cardboard
Use appropriate colours. e.g. colour
red for fire, blue for cloud, etc.

Constructing a simple chart is one of
the skills expected from a Smart
Teacher
Plan what you want to do on your
cardboard before coming to the class.
