CENTRALIZED DATA STORAGE E.G. NORMAL SERVER OR STANDARD CLOUD (OLD WORLD)
Centralized data storage means that data is stored on one or more computers controlled by a single authority. This gives full control and sovereignty over the data to a single
entity, which makes it an easy target for hackers and creates potential for fraud and misuse. Data hacks cost companies millions and put user data at risk year in, year out.
DECENTRALIZED DATA STORAGE (NEW WORLD)
Decentralized data storage means that data in a system is stored and controlled by many different computers across a distributed network. The network does not have a central
point of attack. Changing, adding or removing any data requires consensus from the rest of the network. This ensures that no one entity can manipulate, falsify or delete the data.
It is nearly impossible to hack such a network because you would need to control over 50% of all computers in the network simultaneously - which typically costs more to amass
than the value of whatever is being hacked.
CONCLUSION:
As long as the storage and exchange of data takes place centrally, the
potential for data hacks and fraud remains high. Considering how many
different entities are interconnected and in constant communication
nowadays, decentralized data storage is essential for the digital age. It is the
missing part of the internet. Decentralized data storage ensures the
authenticity of all data. Thus, a "Trustless Network" is created, in which all
parties can interact with each other in an efficient and transparent manner,
without having to trust one another. These trustless networks are more
commonly known as ‘blockchains’, yet blockchain comes in many shapes
and sizes and represents only one subcategory of the umbrella term
‘Distributed Ledger Technology’ or DLT.

DLT 1.0: Bitcoin Blockchain
Digital money is worthless if you can copy it the same way you can copy an image online, spend it in two or more different places at once, or un-spend it. This is known as the
double-spend problem. Bitcoin is the first digital money system to solve the double spend problem thanks to its underlying technology, blockchain.
However, the bitcoin blockchain is not scalable and transactions are expensive.
DLT 2.0: Ethereum Blockchain
The Ethereum blockchain is the first to make it possible to create decentralized applications. The most famous innovation behind the Ethereum blockchain is the ‘smart contract’.
A smart contract is a computer protocol designed to emulate, and improve upon, the performance of a real-world contract. Its function is to define conditions which when met,
automatically execute a contract by the computers in a given network. Unfortunately, the Ethereum blockchain and its smart contracts are also weighed down by a lack of a
scalability and high fees.
DLT 3.0: Advanced Blockchain Technologies - Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) Architecture
The DAG architecture is a new, highly scalable approach to achieving decentralized consensus. Current projects using the DAG architecture include IOTA, Hashgraph and COTI.
With the peaq project, Advanced Blockchain AG is experimenting with the idea of merging DAGs with blockchain and smart contracts to develop a scalable solution for the real
economy. At this point in time, all the DAG projects mentioned above are still in the development phase.
CONCLUSION:
At Advanced Blockchain AG we understand that traditional
blockchain architecture needs to be developed further
before it can be adopted by the real economy. It is for this
reason that we are focusing on new solutions using the
DAG architecture. peaq is the first project to combine the
two approaches. We intend to solve blockchain’s scalability
problem as well as the consensus problems of the DAG by
intelligently combining them both.

TWSS – Connecting companies with DLT
The fundamental concept for TWSS is to develop a layer on top of a DLT base layer where
companies can store data, records and transactions in a secure, immutable, yet easily-accessible
way. It’s the interactive link between real world information and DLT.
TWSS provides a ‘plug and play’ model where companies can connect their systems via an API
and have their transactions recorded on the blockchain. Companies using TWSS will use the
blockchain as a backbone for their existing business models.
TWSS is platform agnostic, it can be adapted to suit different base layer technologies, purposes
and industries. Through TWSS Advanced Blockchain AG can connect the world with Distributed
Ledger Technology and open up a market with considerable future potential.

The peaq project

The peaq project
peaq is a base layer DLT utilising a DAG structure rather than a blockchain. DAGs are an alternative,
arguably more advanced, DLT architecture to the better known blockchain. The reason for choosing a
DAG over a blockchain is typically to avoid blockchain’s well-known issues with scalability and fees.
However, DAGs have generally come with their own problems in achieving decentralized consensus. This
is an aspect Advanced Blockchain AG are working on overcoming through peaq.
peaq began as a project aimed at building smart-contract capabilities onto an existing Directed-Acyclic-
Graph (DAG) based Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT), IOTA’s Tangle Network. Advanced Blockchain
AG recently announced that the peaq project now has its own functional DAG framework. Having a
working DAG means Advanced Blockchain AG and peaq no longer need to rely on external partners for
their base-layer architecture. Rather, they are in complete control of how the protocol functions and can
tweak it when and where needed. The goal of peaq is now to build smart-contract capabilities on
Advanced Blockchain AG’s own DAG.
The end goal of peaq is to have a functional and efficient base-layer protocol capable of overcoming the
main drawbacks seen in traditional blockchain systems and consensus problems currently found in DAGs.
Once completed, the protocol could be used by Advanced Blockchain AG for a variety of real-world
projects in industries such as the IoT, as well as the automotive, financial and mechanical engineering
industries, among several others.

Since TWSS is platform agnostic, it doesn’t
necessarily need peaq to function. TWSS
can work on any other base layer DLT.
That being said, current base layer DLTs fall
short of the capabilities we expect from them,
hence the lack of mass adoption to date.
peaq is an attempt to push the boundaries of
what is currently considered possible in the
DLT realm. A powerful, efficient, scalable,
low-cost base layer DLT which when ready,
will be integrated with TWSS.
Together they will form a portal into a DLT
world ready for all kinds of applications,
interactions and operations to be built on top
of them and harness the power and potential
of Distributed Ledger Technology in its
entirety.
