3. Students’ attitudes towards native speaker and
non-native speaker teachers of English
The research question are:
What is the attitude of university students in IAU towards NNS and NS teachers of
English?
What are the strengths and weaknesses of NNS and NS English teachers in
teaching EFL as perceived by university students of IAU ?
4. Literature review: Gardner (1985) indicates that, Attitude is a mental state that
includes cognitive, affective, and conative components. It means that it involves
beliefs, emotional reactions, and behavioral tendencies related to an object,
or event. It consists, in broad terms, of an underlying psychological predisposition
to act or evaluate behavior in a certain way (Gardner 1985). According to what
been said attitudes consist of beliefs, emotion and behavior.
Research question: Do Indonesian students have attitudes towards English
medium instruction? Do gender differences reflect any difference in the attitudes
the students towards English medium instruction?
Methodology: both qualitative and quantitative approaches, this study will be
collected through using a questionnaire, the questionnaire will be basically based
on a 5 point likert scale, Participant (200 students ). be evaluated using an SPSS
and calculator.
5. Procedure: Time
Week 1, The questionnaire will be sent to a panel of experts. (vilidity)
Week 2, it will be distributed to the participants (The questionnaire will took
approximately 30 minutes to complete).
Week 3, After completing the questionnaire participants will be asked if they are
interested in taking part in an interview.
Week 4, data analysing data based on the data of questionaaire and interview using
SPSS.
Week 5, preparing the result of the data analysed to consultation with supervisor.
