Acceptance Rate At Institutions Of Higher Learning
Acceptance Rate At Institutions Of Higher Learning - AlefTav (siterubix.com)
Getting into College
This blog post explains the term, 'College Acceptance Rate', a concept you need to
understand as you prepare for your studies at institutions of higher learning.
College acceptance rate refers to the percentage of applications that a college or university
admits.
This percentage depends on a number of factors, including:
ď‚· GPA score
ď‚· Standardized test scores such as SAT and ACT
ď‚· College essay to showcase your personality
ď‚· Extracurricular activities to assess initiative and leadership ability
ď‚· Various internal College standards
Acceptance Rate at Top Universities
Naturally enough, acceptance rates at the nation's top tier universities are extremely low.
Competition for these places are tough because, on the one hand, more students apply, but
admission standards are particularly strict. It is true that higher ranked institutions are
perceived as more prestigious, nonetheless, they may not be a perfect fit for you.
What is more important is to find a study program that you find interesting and that will be a
stepping stone for your future career.
The acceptance rate at the top 20 universities were as follows for 2020:
1. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) – 6.7%
2. Stanford University – 4.34%
3. Harvard University – 4.92%
4. California Institute of Technology (Caltech) – 8%
5. University of Chicago – 7.9%
6. University of Pennsylvania – 10%
7. Yale University – 7%
8. Columbia University – 6.1%
9. Princeton University – 6.5%
10. Cornell University - 15%
11. University of Michigan-Ann Arbor - 26%
12. Johns Hopkins University - 14%
13. Northwestern University - 28%
14. University of California, Berkeley (UCB) - 17%
15. University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) - 17%
16. New York University (NYU) - 32%
17. University of California, San Diego (UCSD) – 30.2%
18. Duke University – 7.6%
19. Carnegie Mellon University – 15.4%
20. Brown University – 9.3%
This table shows that it would be better to apply elsewhere if you wish to pursue further
studies. Or alternatively, to get a head-start on your your academically-minded friends by
getting a job.
Highest Acceptance rate
While the prestigious Ivy League admitted less than 8% of applicants, the national US
average was 68% in 2019. So, if you are set on studying further, you are likely to find it
fairly easy to be accepted at your favorite place of higher learning.
The following 20 establishments had the highest acceptance percentage for the fall of 2020.
These institutions had a rate of 100%. Yes, every prospective student who applied to them
was accepted.
1. Academy of Art University, CA
2. Averett University, VA
3. Broward College, FL
4. Cameron University, OK
5. Central Christian College of Kansas, KS
6. Cleveland State University, OH
7. Colorado Mountain College, CO
8. Delta State University, MS
9. Feather River Community College District, CA
10. Granite State College, NH
11. Lewis-Clark State College, ID
12. MidAmerica Nazarene University, KS
13. Montana State University, MT
14. Naropa University, CO
15. Northeastern State University, OK
16. Pensacola State College, FL
17. South Florida State College, FL
18. St Petersburg College, FL
19. Sul Ross State University, TX
20. Unity College, ME
This is only a small selection of the more than 100 institutions where the acceptance rate is
above 95%. It is likely that there are, at least, a couple of colleges within your state where
you will be accepted with open arms to study your dream program.
Where to Study?
The final decision ultimately rests with you. The nation's top schools are probably out of
reach. However, at any other school you are guaranteed not only to be accepted, but also to
have a fulfilling four years where you can grow and mature into full adulthood.
