X.com (originally known as X Y) is a question answering-focused e-
business and web search engine founded in 1996 by Garrett
Gruener and David Warthen in Berkeley, California.
X.com has been criticized for its browser toolbar, which has been
accused of behaving like malware due to its bundling with other software and
the difficulty of its uninstallation.
The original idea behind X Y was to allow users to get answers to
questions posed in everyday, natural language, as well as by traditional keyword
searching. The current X.com still supports this, with support for math,
dictionary, and conversion questions.
In 2005 the company announced plans to phase out Y and on
February 27, 2006, the character disappeared from X.com. He was stated to be
"going into retirement." However, the UK/Ireland edition of the website
prominently brought the character back in 2009.

In the year 2003 in India, several telecommunications companies were competing for a
share of the rapidly growing mobile phone market. X wanted to convey the message that
its service was robust enough to provide coverage in every part of its coverage areas.
Mahesh V. and Rajeev Rao, Senior Creative Directors at the agency, spent a whole night
developing the idea.
Their first idea was a little sister following her brother. "On second thoughts, we
concluded that a dog would be much less mushy", adds Mahesh. That's when they hit
upon the theme, "Wherever you go, our network follows", and the idea for the
campaign: a dog that follows a boy in the most unlikely places – school, bath, barber
shop, etc.

As the title character X, along with his brother, Y, one or two players fight a
series of bosses in order to repay a debt to the devil.

Animation, seeking to emulate their subversive and surrealist qualities.

It took Aleksandr Petrov and his son Dmitri Petrov (who helped his
father) two years to paint each of the 29,000+ frames. The film's
technique, pastel oil paintings on glass, is mastered by only a handful
of animators in the world. It is based on a novella that received the
Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1953.
Petrov used his fingertips in addition to various paintbrushes
to paint on different glass sheets positioned on multiple levels, each
covered with slow-drying oil paints.
It won the 2000 Academy Award for Animated Short Film,
among various others.
