This is the first part of a Sermon on Why We Should Give by Rev. Greg B. Fernandez Jr. There are at least 14 Principles of giving in the New Testament and 7 are discussed in this outline.
8. “For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever.
Amen.”—Romans 11: 35
STEWARDSHIP: “God owns everything and we are His
Managers!”
9. In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if
God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God
has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher,
teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving,
give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility
seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly—
Romans 12: 6-8
10. “Since you excel in so many ways—in your faith, your gifted speakers, your
knowledge, your enthusiasm, and your love from us —I want you to excel also
in this gracious act of giving—2 Corinthians 8:7
11. Jesus said, “When you Give….” (Matthew 6: 3)
Jesus said, “Give, and it shall be given you….” (Luke 6: 38)
Jesus said, “Store your treasures in heaven, ….” (Luke 6: 38)
Paul said, “Each of you should give….” (2 Corinthians 9: 7)
12. “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”
—Matthew 6: 21
13. “The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of
double honor, especially those whose work is preaching and
teaching. For Scripture says, “Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading
out the grain,” and “The worker deserves his wages.”
—1Timothy 5: 17-18
14. “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat
them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in
and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths
and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and
steal.” (Matthew 6: 19-20)
renunciation
Jesus was not talking about the ______________of earthly
treasure. He was talking about the _______________ accumulation
of
heavenly treasures.
15. Luke 16: 9
Here’s the lesson: Use your worldly resources to
benefit others and make friends. Then, when your
earthly possessions are gone, they will welcome you
to an eternal home.” (NLT)
16. If we invest our money now for the kingdom of God,
we will receive reward later in heaven.
The best use of money is to invest it in the salvation
of other people!
