MEN IN MANAGEMENT
The Challenge of Being a Man in Today’s Workplace – a Modular Workshop
The workshop is designed to help men acknowledge and come to terms with the complexities and challenges
of being a man in 21st
Century management. Expectations have changed and traditional male behaviours are
no longer suitable in today’s workplace. Things are not as straightforward as they used to be. Keeping up
with changes in working practice is not easy; some men find these changes particularly challenging.
The programme will offer men a space to explore some of the issues that inform their behaviours. Through
looking at gender, other diversity areas, expectations, role models, stereotypes and language, participants
will develop strategies to make them more effective as managers, leaders and colleagues.
Who is the Workshop For?
Men in management roles and those poised to move into management.
Workshop Outcomes
To understand the origins and reasons for existing behaviours.
To recognise the effect of behaviours on others (women and men).
To build effective workplace relationships with women in management.
To feel good as a man, and thus positively affect organisational performance.
To raise awareness of the impact of traditional male behaviours on the workplace.
To become a more effective team player through a greater understanding of self and others.
Method
In order to provide a particularly powerful learning environment the workshop will involve: exercises in
varying dynamics, discussion, skills practice, sharing of relevant experience and case studies, and facilitator
input. Delegates will be encouraged to identify solutions to their own situations, thus giving them greater
ownership of the programme and its outcomes. The intention is that the workshop will be challenging,
thought provoking and enjoyable.
