9. What is Social Design?
Social design has many definitions and the term
is put to very different uses across the globe.
1) Some definitions exist within the design world and refers to design in
its traditional sense, meaning the shaping of products and services.
2) Other definitions refer to social design as the creation of social reality;
design of the social world.

10. Why should you care,
as a Designer?
[ DISCUSS ]

11. Why should you care?
Ask yourself:
• Does it contribute visually to the world in which we live ?
• Is the message totally concerned with the product or service offered?
• Is the product or service entirely beneficial, or could it be harmful?
• Is the design efficient in it’s use of materials?
• Were the producers treated fairly?

12. Why should you care?
“ Designers have to make their own
choices as to how best to contribute to our
shared culture.
All graphic design is by its nature social,
so it is a matter of which kinds of social
engagements are most desirable to you. ” – Sheila Levrant de Bretteville
Professor and Director of Studies
in Graphic Design at Yale University, USA.
