2. Altus Properties | Real Estate Investment: expanding
Midwest real estate investment firm is taking a bigger stake in St. Louis property. The Altus Realty Income Fund recently added $20 million to a now-$50 million fund
from 154 investors to acquire property in St. Louis and Minneapolis. Earlier this year, Altus bought seven industrial buildings in St. Louis totaling 400,000 square
feet. Altus’s property portfolio includes 3.7 million square feet worth $400 million.
Charter Communications | Cable: expanding
Charter (NASDAQ: CHTR) leased 135,000 square feet at the Crossings at Northwest, formerly known as Northwest Plaza shopping center. The space that used to
be Macy’s will be a call center for 1,000 employees. Raven Redevelopment began the $106 million redevelopment of Northwest Plaza in 2012. Charter also has call
centers in Bridgeton and Town and Country with 3,500 employees.
Karpel Solutions | Software: expanding
Software developer Karpel Solutions has outgrown its 5,000 square-foot office at 5714 South Lindbergh Boulevard in South County. Their forty employees are
moving into the second floor of Southwest Executive Center at 9717 Landmark Parkway in Sunset Hills. Karpel acquired the 23,600 square-foot building from
Bluerock Real Estate and will lease the first floor.
Peabody Energy | Coal: contracting
Peabody Energy (NYSE: BTU), headquartered in downtown St. Louis, is cutting 250 corporate and regional jobs by the end of June 2015, citing a downturn in the
coal industry. Slimming down the corporate structure will cut Peabody’s costs by $40 to $45 million annually.

Gateway Rail Services | 3PL: expanding
Gateway Rail Services of Madison, Illinois, acquired Granite City Passenger Terminal to expand their services from repairing and refurbishing passenger cars to car
storage and freight car repairs. The acquisition includes 75,000 square feet of warehouse space and 6,000 square feet for railcar storage at 1100 Niedringhaus
Avenue in Granite City. Gateway plans to add six new jobs to their current 12 and invest $750,000 in new infrastructure for the warehouse.
Granite City Works | Steel: staying open
U.S. Steel announced it will not be shutting down Granite City Works, saving 2,000 jobs. In March, U.S. Steel issued a 60-day warning to 2,080 workers that the
plant would close. This month, 80 employees were laid off. No explanation was given for the change in plans, but Illinois representatives are pushing for stronger
anti-dumping tariffs in Congress. Foreign steel imports rose 38 percent from 2013 to 2014.
NorthPoint Development | Industrial Real Estate: expanding
Kansas City developer, NorthPoint Development, has two large projects planned. First, NorthPoint foreclosed on Paul McKee’s 150 acres of Hazelwood Logistics
Center, where they intend to build a 200,000 square-foot warehouse, the first building of a total 2.5 million square feet planned for Hazelwood Logistics Center. The
second project is a $50 million, 1.3 million square-foot warehouse in Wentzville Logistics Center nearby the General Motors plant. Wentzville’s Board of Alderman
approved tax incentives and annexed 130 acres for the project. The warehouse will open December 2015, and bring 800 jobs to Wentzville.
Sigma-Aldrich Corp | Biomed: expanding
Life Sciences company Sigma-Aldrich Corp. is expanding its SAFC Commercial unit’s St. Louis facility to manufacture and sell an antibody drug conjugate (ADC)
designed to specifically target cancer cells.
Weekends Only | Furniture Retailer: expanding
St. Louis furniture retailer Weekends Only opened a 6th location in Indianapolis, its first outside of St. Louis. The retailer signed a 10-year lease with Sunbeam
Development for 92,000 square feet in Castle Run Shopping Center, formerly occupied by Burlington Coat Factory. Headquarters and the distribution center will
remain in St. Louis.
