American Railcar Industries Inc. | Manufacturing: contracting
To cut freight and inventory costs, American Railcar (NASDAQ: ARII) is closing its Corbitt manufacturing plant at 650 S. Main Street in St. Charles and moving the
production to Arkansas. Some of the 52 employees from St. Louis will relocate.
Cushman & Wakefield | Real estate brokerage: contracting
A number of human resources and accounting positions at commercial real estate firm Cushman & Wakefield’s office in Maryland Heights will be outsourced to
Accenture. Last year, DTZ acquired Cushman & Wakefield, which currently employs 800 people in seven St. Louis offices.
Eurofins Panlabs | Bioscience: expanding
Bioscience company, Eurofins Panlabs, has 10 new job openings. Eurofins’ headquarters are at 15 Research Park Drive in St. Charles.
Macy’s | Retail: contracting
In a move to consolidate and cut expenses, Cincinnati-based retailer Macy’s (NYSE: M) is closing its Bridgeton call center. Three call centers in Arizona, Florida,
and Ohio will gain 640 jobs as the Bridgeton call center cuts 750. Macy’s will employ 1,800 people in St. Louis after the closings, including 40 at corporate offices
and 75 in the Bridgeton distribution center located at 111 Boulder Industrial Drive.
Printpack | Packing manufacturing: contracting
Atlanta-based Printpack is closing its plant at 310 James S. McDonnell Boulevard in Hazelwood and laying off the 115 employees who worked there. In Virginia,
Printpack is planning a $25.7-million plant expansion that will create 50 jobs.
University of Missouri – St. Louis (UMSL) | Education: contracting
By conservative estimates, UMSL is $15 million over budget and will close the gap with layoffs. Last year, UMSL expected a 2 percent increase in enrollment, but
instead it fell by 4 percent. Fewer students are transferring to UMSL from two-year colleges; including from St. Louis Community College, where enrollment has
been declining for 25 years. UMSL plans to channel more money into need-based scholarships.
World Wide Technology | Technology: expanding
St. Louis-based World Wide Technology (WWT) is hiring over 300 employees at a new satellite office in Denver. First, WWT is filling 70 positions in sales,
engineering, and development; and in the future, 200 software development and 50 sales representatives will be added. Asynchrony Labs, which WWT acquired
last year, will also operate out of the new Denver location.
