Missouri gained nearly 39,000 new residents from migration between 2013-2014, according to data from the American Community Survey. Most of Missouri's migration activity during this period was with the neighboring states of Kansas and Illinois. Missouri gained over 8,800 residents from Illinois but lost around 3,400 residents to Kansas, resulting in a net gain of residents from its neighboring states.

Missouri gaining residents from nearby states
• The American Community Survey recently released state-to-state migration flows. Most migration
activity for the state of Missouri was with Kansas and Illinois. In 2014, a total of 193,240 people moved
into Missouri, and 154,325 migrated out of Missouri to another state. Missouri gained 8,877 residents
from Illinois, but lost 3,390 to Kansas. Net migration to the Show-me State totaled a gain of 38,915 new
Missourians.
