St. Louis second fastest “brain-gain”
• Second only to Pittsburgh, St. Louis’s workforce is a national leader in increasing educational
attainment. According to a recent report by the Manhattan Institute, most American metros are
experiencing “brain gain,” or an increase in the percent of adults with bachelor’s degree or higher.
The percent of highly educated people in St. Louis has grown 3.8 percentage points, outpacing the
national average of 2.1, and exceeding the growth in education-destinations such as Charlotte, Denver,
and Boston.
