Loan delinquencies reach new low
• Loan delinquencies across the metro area have reached a new low. After spiking during the recession
and leveling off, there has been a sharp decline since 2012. With an improving market banks are
starting to increase lending. According to an article in the St. Louis Business Journal, “Total loans as a
percentage of total assets rose to 62.85 percent as of March 31 at 83 St. Louis-based banks with less
than $10 billion in assets.” That number is the highest percentage in five years. Increased lending
gives business owners more access to capital for investment into operations, a positive for the region.
