Marketing needs to be a balance of science and art. Art appeals to the emotion, design & storytelling help people retain information, practical information builds trust, psychology allows us to hone the arts for maximum efficacy and science allows us to measure, optimize and double down on what is working.
When it comes to marketing I am convinced that "nobody knows nothing about anything". Every company needs to build this knowledge from the ground up through constant trial and error and mountains of empirical data. Instead marketing teams subject the world to random acts of marketing and fall back to their familiar spammy practices. True marketing should delight and engage and win customers for life.
