- Good morning. Thank-you for inviting me to speak. Adam Knight. Head of the Planning Department. Advertising agency. Central London Speak to you about preparing for the world of work, when you’re likely to enter it in a few years time. <click> NEXT SLIDE
- As I already said. I work in a digital advertising agency Here we all are. 280 of us in total Job of an Ad agency to convince people to buy things from our clients brands. <click> next slide
- We work with Car brands such as Audi, McLaren and Infiniti. <click> Tech companies such as Vertu Mobile Phones, British Telecomms and Canon. <click> Youth brands such as Lynx, Call of Duty, Skylanders and Destiny. <click> NEXT SLIDE
- I’m a Planner. My job to create a strategy that helps our clients get to a great idea <click> Use my understanding of their BRAND…. <click> Their potential and current buyers… <click> Their competitors and wider MARKET insights to help us get to the right solution. My job to know more than anybody else about the brands I work on. Take all this information and turn it into a strategy that our clients pay us for. <click> NEXT SLIDE
- My job to stay on the cutting edge of culture. Which social media platform about to explode, and which is about to die. To understand what excites people What will get them to buying stuff What will get them talking <click> NEXT SLIDE

- Powerful Effective Successful women Major focus in fashion <click> NEXT SLIDE
- Burberry had a massive problem. Chavs. <click> Angela single handedly rescued one of the biggest brands on the planet Reimagined the brand from the ground up. Used tech to transform the shopping experience, both online and in store. <click> NEXT SLIDE
- Then she was poached by Apple To do the same for them. Appointed as their SVP of all Retail for Apple Raise the bar again, and leaving all other tech retailers behind. <click> NEXT SLIDE
- What can we learn from them? You tell me. Try to behave as they would Try to emulate their ways of approaching each day Strive for their levels of success. <click> NEXT SLIDE
- Right, lets talk a little bit about last year… <click>
- The zika virus arrived and made lots of babies quite ill <click>
- Terror attacks across the globe <click>
- Police shootings and violence led to public outcry and uprisings <click>
- THE LOSS OF SOME GREAT GLOBAL ARTISTS – a big loss to the arts <click>
- And its quite a scary future too… <click>
- This guy is going to be the leader of the free world later on today I’m a little scared… <click>
- This is going to happen, and mass with your schools logo, and my mortgage too! <click>
- Predicated you’ll have to work till you're eighty Longer than anybody that has ever existed <click> NEXT SLIDE
- Many people will die of obesity related illnesses Whilst others starve to death <click> NEXT SLIDE
- Empty our oceans of fish <click> NEXT SLIDE

- But fear not, there are some crappy things that happen out there. But its also a pretty awesome world too…

- We’ll learn to grow meat in labs <click> NEXT SLIDE
- Drone technology will disrupt : Photography Transport Medical delivery sectors <click> NEXT SLIDE
- We’ll soon create AI as smart as our own brains. Then it’s a bit of an unknown about where this will take us. But I’m optimistic. <click>
- Cars will drive themselves Less accidents on the road. An all electric future will help the environment too. <click> NEXT SLIDE
- By the time you buy your own home, its likely you’ll be able to power it yourself, off the national grid <click>
- We’re becoming more aware of the benefits and importance of diversity in the workplace, <click>
- And all these things too… <click>
- Only thing I can promise is change Positive change Negative change You decide how you respond. A case of disrupt, or be disrupted <click> NEXT SLIDE
- Technology will be at the centre of all this change. Technology comes in all shapes and sizes <click> In ancient times the wheel disrupted everything. <click> TV Leisure time / advertising <click> Whereas now, it’s an Apple Watch. <click> NEXT SLIDE

Avoided at all costs” You are right at the start of your personal journey with technology. You are very lucky indeed. <click> NEXT SLIDE
- One thing behind technology now, and in the future is code. <click> Somebody pretty famous is a fan of Coders Will.i.am: Coders Are Today's Rock Stars Understand and use technology. Understand and use code. <click> NEXT SLIDE
- There are now free online tools and tutorials for all ages Kids… <click>
- Young teens <click>
- Teen and up <click>
- Look around you Amount of people entering the job market within a few miles of your home About the same time as you Looking for the same jobs in the same sectors. Multiply number by 100 Region Multiply number by 4,000 Country So, my next piece of advice is… <click> NEXT SLIDE
- TO STAND OUT Significantly. Do something that makes you stand out from everybody else Mine was joining the army cadets and reaching the highest rank possible. That got me my first job. Write a blog. Do charity work. Join a team and get involved. Write music and learn to play an instrument well. Whatever you do. Do something. When that 'why should I hire you' question comes, you need to have a great answer But whatever you do, do something Before you need to Make it something you enjoy. You’ll be better at it that way

- Be inspired Be challenged Be blown away Watch something each day – I use TED Talks for that Read something every week – I read a blog called ‘wait but why’ <click> NEXT SLIDE
- No, don’t hug the odd looking guy next to you in science. Find your inner nerd Play with tech. Learn to code Programme an Arduino Get to grips with how tech and code works Learn about what it does And how you can turn that to your advantage <click> NEXT SLIDE
- We play out our lives in front of everybody else. On Facebook On Twitter On Instagram What you say online is permanent. Photos you put online are permanent. So manage and build your online profile carefully Potential employers will google you. What will they find? <click> NEXT SLIDE
- Find somebody that inspires you Successful Charitable Happy Millionaire or in poverty It can be anybody Understand what they doing different. And start doing those things <click> NEXT SLIDE
- The world is changing. Learn Chinese Understand India better Read Russian history Even more important places in 10 years Develop a balanced and knowledgable world view <click> NEXT SLIDE
- Donate to charity. Take granny out for lunch Help your brothers and sisters with their homework Offer to walk your neighbours dog. Karma exists Good things happen to good people. <click> NEXT SLIDE
- Bored people are boring. Don’t be a bored person. ‘if you want something done, ask a busy person.’ I’m a big fan of that. <click> NEXT SLIDE
- Switch off the PS4 and get out. Experience something new each week. Learn a skill Go somewhere you’ve never been before <click> NEXT SLIDE
- Whatever it is. Hatmaking Delivering milk Carpentry Do something you love happy. But use technology –XXXXX - to do it better and smarter than anybody else. <click> NEXT SLIDE

- Just got your Mock Results. Starting course counselling sixth form pathways. A big and scary time for you And that’s okay. But you’re in the right place. - Your teachers will tell you more as we have it. But there will be a completely open application process. We’ll be looking for the most creative people here. Not about your grades or your background, we just care how creative you can think. So, keep your ears open for more and make sure you apply when the time comes.
