Bigger, bolder, better
The Apple iPhone 6 marks Apple’s foray into large-screen smartphone territory.
It is the thinnest iPhone yet, measuring just 6.9mm in girth.
Replaces the blocky design of the iPhone 5/5s with rounded edges and curved corners.
Display gently slopes towards the edges, feeling silky smooth to the touch.
The ungainly plastic antenna lines at the back and protruding camera lens are our only
complaints about the otherwise gorgeous device.
DESIGN
3. A visual treat
The Retina HD display measures 4.7-inches in size.
1,334 x 750 pixels resolution results in a pixel density of 326ppi.
Brightness levels are high, and the display is visible even in direct sunlight.
Not overtly reflective, with stellar viewing angles.
Colours are natural but not oversaturated.
DESIGN
4. Tons of new camera features
Features an 8MP iSight camera
and 1.2MP FaceTime shooter.
The usual array of filters remain.
Focus Pixels (phase detection
autofocus), makes focusing
much faster.
Camera offers improved face
detection, higher-resolution
panoramas and exposure
control.
New video features include
1080p recording at 60fps, slo-mo
at 240fps and time-lapses.
FaceTime camera captures more
light and offers a new burst
shooting mode.
CAMERA
5. Consistently good image quality
Camera continues to be one of the
best on smartphones.
Very quick to focus, great for
macro or action shots.
Daylight images are detailed and
sharp, while lowlight photos don’t
exhibit much grain.
HDR mode is much quicker than
before, but not the most effective.
The True Tone flash provides
balanced illumination in low light.
Front camera can take share-worthy
selfies.

6. iOS 8 is the biggest release yet
The iPhone 6 runs iOS 8
(upgradable to iOS 8.1)
It brings several new
features like third-party
keyboards, actionable
notifications, support for
widgets in the ‘Today’ view
and app extensions.
Handoff lets you start a
task on your iPhone and
finish it on your Mac. It
supports apps like Mail,
Notes, Safari and
Messages, and even
phone calls.
USER INTERFACE
7. A few exclusive software tweaks
There are two software
tweaks exclusive to the
iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.
Display View lets you
choose between Standard
and Zoomed, with the
latter enlarging the UI.
The Reachability feature
lets you double tap the
Home button to slide the
entire UI to the bottom,
making one-handed use
easier.
USER INTERFACE
8. Fast and furious
The iPhone 6 is powered by Apple’s second gen 64-bit A8 chip.
An M8 motion co-processor is also on board, gathering health data from various
sensors, including a new barometer, and relieving load on the main chipset.
Multi-tasking and day to day performance is expectedly blazing fast.
Gaming is a pleasure too, with intensive titles like Riptide GP2 playing without any lags
or freezes.
PERFORMANCE
9. Disappointingly average battery life
Apple hasn’t specified the
iPhone 6’s battery capacity,
but teardowns reveal it is a
1,810mAh unit.
Battery life isn’t improved
over the 5s, lasting for a
day with moderate use and
less than that with heavy
use.
In settings, you can now
track battery usage per app
to see what’s draining your
juice.
PERFORMANCE
10. No middle ground in storage options
Apple has done away with
the 32GB version of the
iPhone 6.
Available options include
16GB, 64GB and 128GB
On our 16GB unit, around
11.4GB of storage is
available to the user.
Since the storage is fixed,
it’s advisable to get a higher
capacity variant if you save
a lot of media and apps on
your iPhone.

13. Pricing & Verdict
“The iPhone 6 is truly bigger and better than the 5s,
and makes a worthy upgrade for those invested in
Mac, especially with iOS 8’s new continuity features.
But, it has some stiff competition from Android
heavyweights like the Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One
(M8) and Sony Xperia Z3, which despite being launched
for around the same price, are now available for less. If
you have the moolah though, the iPhone 6 is still one
of the best smartphones for your money.”
